Hi Altostrata,

What I do not understand is why after 4 months your body does not realise it is not going to get it and adjust back to normal.  I really expected hell initially but hoped that in time I would start to improve.  If anything it has got worse, especially the last month.  I do not want to really reinstate but just want some hope that this will go as every day I just try to get through it, there is no peace.  At the moment I feel as if I have the flu like symptoms again, I have had these many times and the symptoms just keep coming and going, round and round, they never stop.

Thanks for replying.

Poppy

Your body is doing the best it can to accommodate to its environment. Some of the adjustments it makes will change the way your body reacts to drugs.

You are expecting a lot of your poor nervous system! It's very complicated and runs everything in your body. It can take time for it to adjust.

physical problems then emotional problems

Hi, I have not been on the site for ages but have had continuing problems.  I was on Venlafaxine and now have not taken any meds for over 3 years.  I have continued to have problems during this time.  At the moment I have had the last two weeks with flu-like symptoms and also felt hay fevery.  I had sore chest, husky voice, pains around the back of ribs, sneezing violently all day, runny nose, itchy nose and sore ear.  Of course this sounds like pure hay fever, which it probably is but it seems along the 3 years I get these symptoms regularly.  Now it has turned to pure depression and I cannot stop crying. Normally I get through the day, manage to do what I want or need to do but every now and then this sort of thing comes along and it would not matter if the queen came today I am sure I would be unable to get myself together.  I was supposed to go out today but cried so much I could not face it and now look a total mess.  Yesterday I did not feel good, not as bad as today, but managed to go to a hospital appointment with my husband, go to a cafe and later in the afternoon take my grandchildren crabbing.  Today I can't face anyone.  It's crazy.

I am frightened because this is still this bad after 3 years and even though I knew it would be hard I did not think I would still be experiencing this much after such a long time.  Is anyone else still getting these problems so far after their last tablet, I'm sure I can't be the only one.

Thanks for listening.

Poppy

Still on 50mg clomipramine as well.  Got down to about half of a 37.5mg capsule and just stopped, not sure if this was the amount as it is over 3 years ago now.  Obviously not the thing to do as have had no meds at all now for over 3 years and still feeling terrific protracted withdrawal.

Hi poppy,

I've merged your new topics into your Introduction topic.

BrassMonkey has written some excellent information here:  are-we-there-yet-how-long-is-withdrawal-going-to-take

You say you have grandchildren so I know you are an "older" lady.  Just wondering if it could be hormonal from menopause or being a few years post menopause.

Also, have you had any blood tests done to see if you are low in anything?  It is worthwhile getting Vitamin D and B12 checked.

Thanks for responding.  Yes I am 63 years old and had my menopause quite a few years ago and I might add that this was prior to taking the meds and I managed to go through it ok even though I barely slept, never got depressed.  Anyway, I suppose what I really need is reassurance, and I am sure that asking for reassurance probably isn't a good idea but because I have had this now for over 3 years I am so worried because much of what I read is a lot less than that and feel it will never get any better.  When I say 3 years I cannot believe it myself so can imagine why other people would not believe it, any Dr I have ever spoken to about it certainly haven't and the last time I did that was when I had been off the meds for about a year and they didn't believe it then.  I am a bit disappointed because other than you no one answered and lots of the other posts have quite a few answers I know this probably sounds childish but I feel quite alone at the moment and this has made me feel worse.  I will look at the information you suggested I read and thanks for that.

Can you remember back to when you started taking  the clomipramine,  did these symptoms start up a few weeks later? Have they been fairly constant for all these years or do they come and go?

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

I wasn't taking clomipramine I was taking venlafaxine.  I have had continuous problems since the last tablet but this comes and goes, its probably waves and windows but I don't get clear windows just not as bad as the waves.  A bad wave usually starts as this  one did with feeling like is it bad hay fever or a bad cold then that goes off and I am left feeling really depressed and crying.  I have got up this morning after not much sleep and really sobbed and I get this thing on my right eye that then takes over and makes my eye shut, I am thinking it is exzema maybe but it really adds to my anxiety as my eye is sore and shut, it's really weird but happens every day at some time in the day, sometimes  all day long.  I have stopped crying, but still feel really miserable but want to get on with the day but the eye thing really gets me down.  I know this sounds so trivial but it is like having a constant eye stye that has gone on for ever.  I don't want to socialise mainly because of this and I look like I have been crying even when I haven't.

So in the summer of 2015 you stopped taking venlafaxine and started taking clomipramine, which you are still taking today?

Well that shoots that idea. Clomipramine can cause flu like and allergy like symptoms similar to the ones you describe. But if you're not taking it.

It looks like your signature is out of date, as it indicates you are still taking the clomipramine.  Would you please bring it up to date when you get a chance.

Does this mean that because I am not on anything you do not think it is still withdrawal problems because that is what it feels like and has not changed much really.  I do not know how to change my signature and add that I am not on any meds now could you let me know how to do this please.  thanks.
