LexAnger
Just for the records. Healing continues. Still at the same tapering rate (0.02 mg cut every 2-3 days) Feel like out of the surviving mode. Still have daily symptoms but majority are physical. Get 1-3 fair days Each week instead of constant daily struggle getting through hours. Started thinking future. Hopeful to get my full life back in another year or two. Moderator brassmonkey Posted September 13, 2016 Moderator Share Posted September 13, 2016 Hi Lex-- it sounds like you've had a nice rise in WDnormal. I'm so glad to hear it. Getting out of survival mode and feeling fair is such an improvement it calls for making future plans. (((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))) 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017 "It's also important not to become angry, no matter how difficult life is, because you can loose all hope if you can't laugh at yourself and at life in general." LexAnger
Grateful grateful is how I feel too, knowing you are continuously doing well even with the small hiccups! I'm too, doing better with dose lowering. Believe it or not, I'm in middle of a nasty cold too. It's nothing compared to what The AD caused, really, nothing in the whole world can be worse. So inspiring that we are seeing more and more real success stories lately, this we know so well and every step each went through. I'm very convinced that this monster is beatable indeed and everyone can win eventually with courage, confidence, strength, knowledge, Thai idea of meeting up with all of us someday for a huge celebration for life keeps coming to my mind. One interesting observation during the cold, somehow the drug related symptoms didn't show ( numb, pain, pressure, they always show some days along with the timeline of dose cut ) only the normal cold symptoms, wonder if you had similar experience? Moderator brassmonkey Posted September 21, 2016 Moderator Share Posted September 21, 2016 I've had several bad cases of the the flu while in WD and each time the WD symptoms faded into the background. It made me realize the importance of distraction and that the symptoms were, for some part, "all in my head". I think part of it is the illness gives you an excuse for feeling so rotten. Thinking back, that was clearly a component of my drinking. Not to mask the symptoms but to justify them. Making that connection was one of the keys to my stopping drinking and starting to face down the WD. In fact it was after a bad case of the flu that I stopped drinking entirely. I hadn't drunk anything for several weeks and decided to just keep going. I have noticed over the years that being seriously ill (Yes, colds and flu are serious illnesses check out the mortality rates) always leaves a person just a little changed in their mental outlook. Not that the illness is an NDE (Near Death Experience) but more of a COM (Clarity of Ones Mortality) on a subconscious level. NDEs on the other hand are more like a "slap up side of the head with a wet squirrel" and can shake you to the core. WD falls somewhere in between sort of a "long game NDE". Well I didn't see that coming. 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg.
Hi Amy, yes, I am feeling like running faster and faster everyday. to be honest, I wish I could go a bit slower as the WD is catching up more now with the speedy and frequent cut, but I seem not able to hold even longer than 2-3 days otherwise the drug reaction piles up too much on the other side. FSL, welcome to the club! Well, I don't know and stooped predicting the future:(. This whole thing is incredibly dynamic changing their tricks before you thought you get a grid on it all the time. Guess I can only keep running as long as I can. Overall, I am still able to manage to get through the day, getting very used to live with the two evils. What makes me the happiest is when I look at the half filled synrige as compared to 7 month ago ( down from 3.2 to 1.5 in 7.5 month). LexAnger
Just for records for status change. Back to survival mode Been cutting more frequently 2-3 days ( as compared to every 3 days) as the drug reaction catching up faster Intolerabel headache added on top of left head/ body numbness on the WD side, and severe needling pain to the reaction side. DR is less severe and short duration, only round sunset (lower dose effect) Brain is more clear in general (lower dose effect) Overall better in mental functionality, worse in physical pain. Current dose 1.45mg. Heard the hardest period is 1.5 to 1 mg ( equivalent to 3-2mg most other ssris) Pushing through each hour again enduring various type of pains. Fingers crossed to get through this period without being crashed Looking forward to the 1mg mark which was supposedly easier from the WD side. Hope everyone is coping well. Moderator brassmonkey Posted October 4, 2016 Moderator Share Posted October 4, 2016 Sending you encouragement and hope and of course ((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) Brass 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. LexAnger
Oh Alto, my heart melts hearing your words! The other day I was talking to my son ( grownup) about a common friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer, now recovered after surgery, chemo etc., he was offended by a statement I made, saying ' another friend of mine who went through breast cancer treatment then various ssris reaction told me the later is 10 times harder to handle'. I think my son feels I'm not sensitive to cancer patients, and / or being too self-pitying. It made me sad that others esp family don't understand what how much it takes to survive this trauma. I can't say it with own experience but somehow I believe it's true although the two are very different and the one we deal with is not fatal by biological definition. LexAnger
Update In the past many years, I have been taking the lex liquid in morning. Since early this year. Due to bad reaction to the meds, I spread the 3.2mg liquid over entire day time by taking tiny bit each hour or so, and at the same time started faster taper. It allowed me to continue taking the meds instead of cold turkey. Somewhere around 2mg, I had to take less and less in day time as the reaction to each drop got very strong again. Then starting from 1.4 mg, it became very difficult to take any in day time so I shifted further to only take the meds 5pm--midnight. So over the past 8 months, I gradually shifted the dosing time from morning to night. Now at 1.3 mg, without taking lex until 5pm, brain functions most of the time for work, physical symptoms varies, pain, tension, etc. insomnia and ear pain after each cut as the new symptoms but short lived only the day immediately after the cut. Overall, it seems WD symptoms are in more control than drug reaction . Currently cutting 1.3% every 3-4 day. Drug reaction wise, after the first couple drops each day still feel off, DR, sick but usually last for 1-2 hours only. Overall, i feel the starting of the low dose effects, with less Drug reaction and a bit more WD effects. One thing confusing is the swollen eyelids/head and extreme dry mouth/lips used to be obvious symptom from drug reaction, now it seems from WD. Any experience and thoughts are appreciated.
