the thoughts have changed in topic.

i've switched the amlodipine back to night time as it didn't help my insomnia.

i stopped ramipril cold turkey because of the intense itching. i was scratching myself raw. my blood pressure was ok for many months then started to rise as my withdrawals got worse.

my blood pressure was diagnosed around 3 years ago.

Took prozac 40 mg for 20 years.

January 2017 started cutting down prozac by 12.5% a week. End of February 2017 completely off prozac and withdrawals began.

Currently taking Levothyroxine 75 mcg, Magnesium citrate 200mg,Sage leaf 50mg daily

Amlodipine: October 2017 , discontinued 26 Feb 2019; Candesartan:  26 Feb 2019, 4mg.

Discontinued magnesium citrate 200mg Apr 3rd 2019

Reinstated prozac:  14 Jan 2019, 1mg; 26 Jan, 1.5mg; 4 Feb, 2mg; 16 Feb, 2.5mg; 2 Mar, 3mg; 5 Mar, 2.5mg, 23 Mar, 3 mg; 6 Apr, 3.5mg, 14 Apr 4mg, 23 Apr 5mg, 10 Jul 8mg, 1 Dec 20mg, 1 Apr 2020 40mg

Yes, withdrawal can cause high blood pressure. Since your blood pressure was okay after you went off Ramipril because of an allergic reaction, it's very possible your high blood pressure was due to withdrawal. You may not need amlodipine at all.

Do you see the amlodipine side effects here https://www.healthline.com/health/amlodipine/oral-tablet#side-effects

We already know that amlodipine is causing you to be queasy from your experiment of taking it in the morning. THIS INDICATES YOUR AMLODIPINE DOSAGE IS TOO HIGH.

Amlodipine also may be causing your depression -- that's fairly common among blood pressure drugs.

Did you discuss the potential adverse effects you're experiencing? As I explained several times right now, the blood tests don't show anything about adverse effects. If you're getting adverse effects from TOO MUCH THYROID HORMONE, it's not proper treatment. Treatment of low thyroid should make you feel better, not worse.

I feel like I've spent a great deal of time discussing side effects from your drugs that are not related to tapering or withdrawal at all. To address your complaints, you need to eliminate causes one by one. One cause for your depression could be amlodipine. Another cause for your sleeplessness, etc. could be too much thyroid hormone.

Blaming this on however much Prozac you might take is a waste of time. If you have side effects from the other drugs in your drug cocktail, no amount of discussion of Prozac we might do here is going to fix them.

You need to get control of your drug treatment. This does not mean you go to the doctor and ask if your drugs are okay. This means telling the doctor you're having intolerable side effects, you suspect too much amlodipine or too much thyroid hormone and you need to isolate the cause by changing the dosage of one of the drugs for a few months and see what happens.

Strongly recommend you try a lower dose of amlodipine first. As it has such a long half-life, it will take weeks to see if this helps. Let us know how you're feeling.

I do not feel I have anything more to add at this point.

How are you, TCIB?  I understand your reluctance to confront your doctor. I would be the same. My mentality is that I should trust them and that they are in a position of authority. Especially in withdrawal, I can look on them as some sort of authority figure but if we are suffering because of our medication then we have the right to question it. We are the ones suffering, not them. They go home at night and probably never give us a second thought while we are at home suffering because of the medication that they have prescribed us. Sometimes, we have to make a stand. Good luck TCIB, I’m sending you positive thoughts and energy.

Yes, go see them and discuss exactly how you feel and your concerns about the combination and the dosage  of drugs that you are on. As a I say, we are the ones suffering.  How are you today ?

At least there is no interaction between Prozac and Candersartan, which there was between Amlodipine and Prozac.

Maybe. How did candesartan affect your sleep?

How did you make the switch from amlodipine to candesartan? When did you make this change?

Did your doctor take your blood pressure when you'd been off amlodipine for several days? Do you still need a blood pressure drug?

Amlodipine has a half-life of days. It could be that you still have amlodipine in you while you're starting candesartan. Or it could be you'll find 4mg candesartan is too high a dose for you.

It may take a week or two to see the effects of the change to candesartan.

i've made a boo-boo this morning. i had a million things on my mind this morning, one of which was thinking about upping my dose which i'd decided against for now.

i took my dose at 7 as normal but i've only just realised i measured out 3mg instead of 2.5.  will this matter as a one off? do i just carry on with the usual 2.5 dose tomorrow?

weirdly i had the most calming day yesterday, much better than i've had in a long long time. it may be a conincidence as it takes a week or more for a dosage change to show up but i think i might stick with the 3mg for a while to see if it helped. i started off the day a little anxious but by late morning a lovely feeling of calm came over me and lasted pretty much the rest of the day. even having to drive on the motorway in a really bad storm didn't stress me out as much as it normally would. could it really be the prozac that soon? or maybe the placebo effect?

I’m not sure what caused it but I’m really happy for you. If we get windows it gives us that boost to carry us through the waves. That’s how it works for me.

2002-ish-April 2018: Prozac 40mg (was on 20mg for many of those years); Jan-April 2018: too fast "taper" off Prozac

July 2018: Tried lowest dose dose Lexapro for 3 weeks; quick tapered off; Aug-Nov. 2108: Ambien and Ambien CR for sleep (appx 10 total doses). Made depression worse and did not work; Nov 2018: 7 doses .5mg Ativan for sleep over 12 days time. Stopped.

December 2018: One week Remeron for sleep. Did not work or help. "Tapered" off over a few weeks.

I’m really glad to hear that. My family and friends are begging me to do something. I’m considering reinstating. I’ve just been fearful of “what ifs.”

i was so full of what ifs too. what if it doesn't work, what if i get worse, i'll have to go through a long taper to come off again, what if i start to lose memories or feel numb like i did before. it had just got to the point where i felt i didn't have much choice any more but to try reinstating. i was rock bottom and my family were getting very scared for my welfare.

Is it possible the amlodipine was causing your symptoms and you didn't need to increase Prozac?

Amlodipine has a half-life up to 2 days. If you stopped it Feb. 26, it would be mostly out of your system in a few days. That was when you started to feel better, wasn't it?

Please note that increasing an antidepressant is not necessarily the answer for everything.

that's possible. if that is the case should i reduce the prozac to 2.5mg and see what happens?

If you increased Prozac to 3mg on March 2, yes, I would go back to 2.5mg. (Please correct your signature.)

This is exactly why we tell people not to change more than one drug at a time. You need to see the effect of each change, which takes at least 4 days.
