Hey hi,

Just looking to hear from those who have successfully made a liquid solution of venlaflaxine and successfully tapered this way? Am half-way down having converted some of my XR to IM and cut pills but now need to make a liquid form as can't get smaller than 4.5mg odd with the cutter...

Cheers!

Prescribed the below after suffering from severe PTSD following an extreme reaction to just two days of Citalopram 10mg in the summer of 2015. This was prescribed for postnatal anxiety following the birth of my second child. I needed the below to get me out of hospital and back home to my kids. Ironic I know...needing drugs to help me get over drugs but hey, I've learned a lot on this journey.

15mg mirtazapine (remeron) DONE!

50mg quetiapine (seroquel) DONE!

225mg pregablin (lyrica) DONE!

150mg venlaflaxine (effexor) down to 75mg

Your cutter - what type is it, please?

My cutter is poor.  I try to cut the tiny 12.5mg Effexor tablets in half, but may have to resort to the pain-in-the bum bead-counting.

Best wishes

Hi KD, welcome to SA.  I am sorry to hear that you had such a bad reaction, and even more sorry that you were given more drugs in order to leave the hospital!  You seem to have tapered very fast, not criticising but venlafaxine is notorious for having hellish withdrawal symptoms. It can seem ok, I tapered it for a whole year and felt fine. Then a month after stopping was hit by horrendous withdrawal. I reinstated 1mg and it took several months to stabilise enough to restart the taper. It took another 2 years to get off that 1mg without going into withdrawal. I am afraid that your fast taper will catch up with you. You might be best to hold the dose you are at for a while, maybe even a few months to let your brain work on adjusting.

When you are ready there is a link here to making a liquid with tablets.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible
