Gracee: withdrawing from Paxil

Very little sleep last night, but stuck it out and rested as well as I could.   No anxiety, thankful for that.   Picked up a book and read a little during the sleeplessness.    I don't intend to rely on prescription or OTC meds for sleep.  Still no WD symptoms except for tinnitus.

Brief window of relief closed this afternoon. Became unfocused, dizzy, lethargic with increased tinnitus.  After four-hours, still have same symptoms except more tired and irritable.    I'm disappointed.

@ChessieCat I read where you posted that magnesium takes the edge off your anxiety.   How do you take your magnesium?  As needed as you feel anxiety coming on?  One of two tablets daily at specific times?   Thanks for helping.

Magnesium

Don't take calcium at the same time as magnesium.  You need to separate them by at least 2(?) hours.

I take 1/2 tablet twice a day, morning and before bed.  Each tablet 150mg magnesium citrate.

Occasionally I will take an additional half in the middle of the day.

@ChessieCat Thanks for info on magnesium.  I've been taking just one 250 mg tablet in evening (take calcium in morning).  Will try taking half earlier in day and other half in evening.

The past two days have been good.  I feel like I'm leveling off again.   Tomorrow I have two events to attend.   I need to be focused and alert for both....GROAN.   Praying I don't get whacked with WD symptoms.   I am an introvert and dislike socializing.  Why are we introverts told that socializing is good for us?   I've never heard anyone tell an extrovert that they need to be more withdrawn.  Oh well....daily rant.

Today turned out great in spite of my concerns.  Took a Benadryl and Valerian for sleep last night.  Slept OK.   No WD symptoms today except for the ever-present tinnitus.   No anxiety despite full schedule.   If next two days are good, I may try a micro-taper from Paxil 33.75 mg to 32.5 mg.

No sleep aid last night.  Woke several times but that's my normal.  Had some moments of panic this morning when I thought I'd double-dosed.   I still don't know for sure whether I did or not.  I normally have a week's worth of pills cut and ready in advance, but this morning I was assembling them all and swallowing them at same time.  Lesson learned.

I did have more queasiness and dizziness this morning than past few days.  Took a ginger capsule and a piece of ginger root and that helped.   Don't know when the effects of a double-dose would hit me.   Tomorrow maybe???

The possibility of accidently ingesting nearly 68 mg of Paxil has me worried.

Hi Gracee,

Thanks for coming over to my thread. Yes, it’s pretty scary when we make mistakes such as double dosing etc. I’ve accidentally double dosed twice, I felt severe symptoms pretty much straight away and they lasted quite a while, but I stabilised again. The first time I was really stressed, but the second time I wasn’t going to add secondary fear to something I couldn’t change anyway, so I stayed calm and just rode out the symptoms.

We always eventually stabilise again, so that’s just what I said to myself the second time I did it, and I did stabilise again. You aren’t even sure if you double dosed, stressing about it will make your withdrawal symptoms worse. I’m sorry you’re so stressed about this. Keep us updated as to how you’re going, sending hugs🤗

Today was a good window.   No WD symptoms except for big-time fatigue late afternoon.  I probably earned that fatigue as I worked on my federal and state tax returns in morning. and in afternoon played two-hours of mah jongg with my neighborhood MJ sharks (and even won a game).   @Carmie I probably didn't double-dose yesterday after all.   Whole lot of needless worry over nothing.  Tinnitus, which is usually strongest in evening, is just moderate right now.

Starting tomorrow, I plan to reduce Paxil from 33.75 mg to 32.5.

Sending caring thoughts and hugs to all.

Hi Gracee,

Glad to hear you think you didn’t double dose yesterday. Both times I double dosed I felt it right away. All the best with your continued tapering💚

I guess we have all done that!

good luck with the continued taper ❤️

Currently taking Ramapril (blood pressure) 5 mg twice a day

Omeprazole 10 mg AM and 20 mg PM  (the taper has gone nowhere after the first cut)

Famotidine   once a day (and I still needs tums sometimes)

magnesium 200 mg at night

as of yesterday 2 fish oil capsules "EPA-DHA 1000"

off Lexapro as of 5/2018  - last dose had been 5 mg every other day for a couple years

highest dose had been 20 mg at which point I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, which went away when I cut the lexapro down to 15 mg.

I spent years on Paxil before Lexapro (can't remember dose), briefly on Effexor and Abilify and others I have forgotten. in fact, when I was diagnoses with BPII I was put on all kinds of things which made me feel so bad I stopped them cold turkey within maybe 3 or 4 weeks, thank goodness. since then I've known these pills were terrible and I weaned down the Lexapro with zero help or support over I'm not sure how many years.

Hi Gracee,

Check out the link ChessieCat gave you. She wrote it to give people some ideas about how we can remember if we have taken our meds or not. I bought myself a Monday to Sunday pill box ages ago. There have been quite a few people that have missed doses or double dosed, myself included. It’s so easy when our brains are in lala land. Hope you’re coping okay today💚

This is the third day of my taper from 33.75 mg Paxil to 32.5.  Had a very sleepless night last night and had to go back to bed this morning for a couple hours to catch up on sleep.   I normally get up around 7 a.m. and try to stick to that schedule regardless of how little sleep I get, but this morning I really needed to catch up.

Typical WD symptoms today:  slightly dizzy, whooshing in head, and tinnitus as usual.   I am really going to need a good long break after this taper.   I must slow down.  I recall from previous attempts I am inclined to go too fast because I just don't feel bad in early stages.

To anyone taking the time to read here:   thanks and be good to yourselves.

I was still awake for two hours after going to bed last night so caved and took 3 mg Ambien.   I hate when I take something for sleep, but I also hate not getting more than two hours sleep at night.

Got up at 7:30 a.m. and put in four really productive hours of house and yard work then crashed.   Dozed off and on while trying to read and remainder of afternoon felt extremely tired.   I dislike not being active and this tiredness is frustrating.  I need to remember to stay put on this dose and not get it into my head to reduce again when I start leveling off.

Hi Gracee,

Glad to hear you got yourself a Monday to Sunday pill box. It’s easy to forgot if we’ve taken our pills sometimes because our brains are all over the place.

And, yes, please continue to taper slowly, going fast doesn’t actually help us move forward any quicker as we end up in bigger waves and then have to hold longer anyway. It’s nice to occasionally have a break from tapering too, I’ve done that as well, especially when I’ve had important things coming up.

Wishing you all the best in your continued recovery.💚

Fifth-day of dose reduction.  This is when I usually feel WD symptoms to the fullest.  Typical fuzzy-dead and dizziness at their peak along with the ever-present tinnitus. Also, jittery and irritable...Kept busy by playing Pinochle with friends (trying not to show annoyance)

is this a quote from someone else or is it original - either way, very good!

Thanks Jackie, Indeed, sleep can make the difference between a really bad day and a really good day.   Hope you are having a comfortable weekend.

Slept good last night.  Took a Benadryl before bed.

Just moderate WD from time-to-time today.

Began using my digital scale today to get dose more accurate.  Prepared two weeks' worth in advance.   Until now, I had been using a pill cutter, halving, then quartering, then eighthing. I'm familiar with scale weighing as I'd used this technique on other WD attempts.  There is a good chance my new measured doses may be off from previous eye-balling doses.   But at least the weight of all newly cut pills is consistent.   I'll know in a few days if this change affects me.  Whatever happens, I hope to stay put at this dose.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED!

After 40 days of tapering too fast, today I was hit with WD symptoms big-time.  I've had some discomfort from the beginning but this morning I was knocked off my feet.   Spent entire day in lounge chair.  Not being able to move around was torture in itself.   Total exhaustion, head fog, dizziness, queasiness, and inability to focus.

I should know better.  I've been down this highway too fast before and that's why my previous tapers didn't succeed.  To recover,  I just updosed  a bit to my dose previous to last reduction and will stay put at 33.75 mg Paxil.  Strange how a small adjustment makes a huge difference between being able to function and total discomfort.  Hope I've learned my lesson this time.

I'm sorry that happened, Gracee.

Please taper properly and don't count on being able to updose. Sometimes it doesn't work. Paxil is particularly difficult to go off.

Hi Gracee,

I’m really sorry you’ve been hit hard again with withdrawals. Pleeeeease stop tapering so quickly. I know that you know better because of your posts. What made you go fast again?  I can see you didn’t hold long enough between tapers. We don’t get anywhere quicker when we go faster.

We all want you to succeed this time. You can succeed. You’ve made mistakes in the past and couldn’t get off the meds, but if you taper slowly and hold for at least a month each time you can do this. I know you can!

Sending hugs🤗

Hi Gracee,

What made you go fast again?

I went fast because I thought tapering would be a bit easier at my higher doses.   I know when I get down to 15 mg, I have to go super slow and at super tiny tapers.  Also, I was feeling fine with minimal discomfort.  I totally screwed up
