thank you for checking on me. Still struggling. Right now I’m experiencing vision issues that are causing anxiety. Inner agitation and ruminating thoughts. Trying to get my thyroid meds fixed. So I’m praying that helps. But I just have this constant inner panic that is causing a lot of issues. I’m not able to control my thoughts and it’s making things worse.

  • 5-28-20 given cymbalta. Had bad reaction. Stopped immediately.
  • 6-20-20 stopped vicodin after 5 years. Suffered akathesia.
  • 7-20-20 to 11-13-20 mirtazapine. On 7.5 tapered for 8 weeks  jumped off at 1.5
  • 11/20 to Feb 3. .25 klonopin, tapered 4 weeks. Jumped off at .0935
  • present - med free. Still suffering from akathesia, insomnia, depression and anxiety
  • melatonin 1mg. Magnesium 400mg daily
  • Vicodin one week. Stopped 12-5-21
  • temezapam prn
  • sonata sleeping pill. Prn
  • tried kratom for one week

I was going through the same inner panic aka feeling a couple weeks ago. I was hospitalized because my suicidal ideations got so bad. I could not sleep or eat and had to be around someone at all times. I could not be alone. I was put on a mood stabilizer  in the hospital and it seemed to calm me down. I am still not stable 100% and have side effects from this new med but the aka is gone, the suicidal thoughts are gone, and the restlessness and sleepless nights are gone. This whole time I suffered from aka, I took lavender magnesium sulfate Epsom salts baths, I was up for 8 nights from the couch, to the floor, to the bed, I just could not get comfortable. The only thing that got me this far was the baths. I was in the tub on and off for hours at a time. I still have the brain fog and brain zaps, but they seem to be subsiding as well. This will get better. I want to be off meds but this is the best I can do right now. I could not stand the aka and restlessness anymore.

thank you for checking on me. I’m not doing very well at all. Feels like I just get worse every day. And if I’m really honest if I had a way I probably would’ve ended my life already. I can’t stand the akathesia and severe ruminating thoughts anymore. It’s horrific. I don’t think this is because of my thyroid. But I did start a new med. and will be getting new lab work in a couple weeks. But not sure I’m going to last that long. It just so sad that this happened to me. And to all of us. But it’s too much for me to deal with

hope you are ok

@Shellbell I am so sorry that you are suffering so bad.  Did  Klonopin help at all?

I see your akathisia started after you stopped the Vicodin.  Did you taper the Vicodin or ct it.

There has to be something that will help.  I know you want to avoid meds, but if your life is on the line you may need to go on something for little while.❤️

i CT the Vicodin because I didn’t know any better. I’ve tried so many different meds. I reacted badly to all of them. So meds aren’t an option. Unfortunately there just isn’t anything that can help anymore. I’m tired of fighting this. It’s just over now for me

i have been off Vicodin for 14 months. Reinstating is not an option. Too be honest I think it would make things worse. I had surgery 2 months ago and was given Percoset and it didn’t help my symptoms at all.

thank you for trying to help. I’m sorry to be so negative all the time. I’m just so devastated about how my life is. It rips my soul that this is how it’s going to end

If you could just try to reframe what you’re going through you could give yourself some peace. It’s hard not to feel like a victim when we feel so sick but the reality is we can always choose how we respond to any given event. We have the power to transform and transcend the suffering. This experience can be seen as an opportunity for growth and resiliency or it can be seen as a hell we cannot escape. We get to choose.

One thing I have really learned from this experience is that suffering is never caused by what is actually happening to us, it’s caused by our thoughts about what’s happening. Experience is neutral, we assign whether it is good or bad through our perception. Our power is in our perception of what is happening.

You can change your story @Shellbellby changing your perception. Stop fighting what is and put that energy into getting well. You really can do this but only you can find your reasons for it. I’m here for you if you want a hand out of the darkness.

I truly appreciate your reaching out. I try to force the acceptance with what I am going through. But I just get worse and worse every day. suffering from severe panic, insomnia right now. I tried to smoke weed to help me sleep and it didn't help and made me feel worse. There has to be something I can take to try and get sleep. It's been weeks of only a couple hours a night.

What can I do to get through the panic feeling all the time?

I just changed my diet to dairy free, gluten free, sugar free. I don't drink caffeine. I don't drink alcohol. Just don't know what to do anymore. I just really wish I could go to sleep and never wake up

When we find ourselves in a situation we don’t like we take the necessary steps to try to change it. However there are times when we have done everything we can and simply must accept what is happening. When we are in true acceptance we allow things to be exactly as they are without trying to change it or make it go away. There is no forcing, that’s resistance. Be at peace with what is and don’t get caught in the story of what should be.

I’m sorry you’re having a difficult time with this. I don’t recommend taking anything to sleep, you run the risk of emotional and physical dependency. On top of that it is the same concept of looking outside yourself to fix something within, you are giving your power away.

This had been one of my biggest issues in w/d and the more I forced sleep the less it came. When I shifted my focus off of sleep and onto resting I was able to relax more deeply and as a result I slept better. So I put sleep sounds on at night and simply focus on listening and relaxing until I fall asleep. If my mind starts the mental chatter I remind myself that this is my time to rest and not think and I focus back on the sleep sounds. It’s really paradoxical because by not worrying about sleep you’re going to sleep. Give it a try, it really does work.

What can I do to get through the panic feeling all the time?

This was another one of my big issues. It wasn’t until I started to meditate daily that I realized I was creating my panic by reacting to thoughts and body sensations. There’s really no mystery to panic and anxiety, it’s just a feeling. We turn it into an emotion when we start connecting with it.

So I recommend you start to change your relationship to panic. Start to observe it objectively as just a feeling. Invite it in and play around with it; what does it look like, feel like? You are not the anxiety, it is just something you’re experiencing in the moment. At first this can feel scary because the natural instinct is to run from it. But remember, nothing bad is actually happening.

Anxiety is actually good because it keeps us from danger. But when we’re not in danger it’s like our alarm is not working properly. So accept the feelings without judgement. When you do this enough you start to signal to your brain that there is nothing to worry about and the feelings will subside. The key here is acceptance and consistency. Keep accepting the feelings and focus on something else, nothing bad is actually happening. This is a practice so it’s okay if it takes some time to get comfortable with this.

This is really great news and I think you’re going to feel better for it. I ate a brownie yesterday and today it feels like my body is on fire so it really does make a difference. And it shows you care enough about yourself to make the change so good for you!!

can I please ask you a question about lamictal? I’m very desperate to rid myself of the constant panic feelings and insomnia. I’m wondering if a small dose would help with that? I absolutely don’t want to take anything but the panic is overwhelming me. Causing severe anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

@Shellbell How are you doing now, any better since Saturday? I am thinking about you and hoping you are doing OK.

My son who is in withdrawal's history:

2006 - 2021 Started on Celexa 10mg, increased to 20mg then 40mg.

May 2021: Started to taper off. Down to 0mg by end of July under doctor's care.

September 2021 started 200mg magnesium twice per day, 1000mg fish oil once per day, Vitamin D3, and 100mg N-acetyl cysteine twice per day.

Oct. 12, 2021: Reinstated at 1mg liquid Celexa per day to hopefully alleviate intrusive thoughts (never had them before quitting Celexa).

Nov. 1, 2021: Was supposed to increase to 2mg Celexa per day, but he was accidentally only taking 0.1ml per day.

Nov. 18, 2021: Increased to 2mg liquid Celexa per day after realizing he was not taking the correct dosage for 17 days.

Dec 29, 2021: Increased to 3mg liquid Celexa. Jan 31, 2022: Increased to 4mg liquid Celexa.

I am concerned for you. Please try to remember that a lot of people on this site have gone through this too, and with time have gotten to the point where they feel so much better. It's so difficult to endure this, but I think we have to take it one minute at a time some days.

the Klonopin helped me sleep a little. Only took it a short time. I went off because I didn’t want any long term issues with a benzo. When I went off it I don’t think much happened. I didn’t feel any better or worse being off it

According to your signature, you took a benzo from November 20 to February 3. That would be more than 8 weeks. When you went off, you probably were already physiologically dependent on it. It's very possible some of your symptoms are benzo withdrawal symptoms.

If I were you, I would reinstate a very small amount of Klonopin twice a day. You were taking 0.25mg per day, or more than once a day?

@Altostrata

i was on once a day for insomnia. I don’t have a dr that will prescribe it for me. I switched to a new dr.

however I do have 10 pills of Valium of 5mg

maybe I can try taking one and seeing if it helps?

I just been off it for so long. I just don’t know why I feel like this.

It is possible that your Klonopin schedule was producing interdose withdrawal symptoms while you were taking it.

@Frogie, could you tell Shellbell how to take 0.5mg diazepam, given she has 5mg tablets?

OMG I totally read the above statement wrong. Didn't see the .5mg portion. I took a whole 5mg pill last night. I was desperate for sleep after not having any at all for several weeks

did I mess up a lot? Not quite sure how to proceed next. Do I not take anything and just wait it out? I actually had much improved day today. Don't know if it's because I finally slept for 7 hours, or I had a window or if it was due to the diazepam. Who knows. Just not quite sure how to proceed next?

I know you are super busy and I value your time and appreciate any help you can give mei

The effect of the 5mg should last for a few days. @Frogie will visit and tell you how to take 0.5mg, that might be enough and make it last.

Will your doctor refill your diazepam prescription? You will need to taper it after you stabilize on it.
