I helped Troyer with her dosing and don't want to loose the calculations;

I'm still trying to figure out the "steps" but almost any music will do. lol

You're off to a good start in the math dept. Yes your target dose is 22.5mg.   The slide would be to get from 25 to 22.5 in four even steps. 24.375, 23.75, 23.125, 22.5.   Doing a new dose every week. So week one 24.375, week two 23.75, week three 23.125, week four 22.5, week five 22.5 and week six 22.5.  Then you'd start again with a new set of numbers figured from the 22.5.

If 5 beads = 20mg then 1 bead = 4mg

If 1 pellet = .17mg then 12 pellets = 2mg and 6 pellets = 1mg

24.375mg = 5 beads 26 pellets

23.75mg   = 5 beads 22 pellets

23.125mg = 5 beads 19 pellets

22.5 mg    = 5 beads 15 pellets

There is a little rounding involved but not enough to make a difference.

So I remember how I got there:  Target dose minus a whole number of mgs divisable by 4 i.e. {24.375mg - 20mg (5 beads X 4mg per bead)} remainder 4.375mg,                                                     gives the number of beads required.

remainder of 4.375mg X 6 (6 pellets per 1mg) = 26 pellets, gives the number of pellets required.

Boy that looks scary but once you work through it a couple of times it's pretty straight forward.

I can totally understand about the wine, look at my signature.  But I have to tell you that it isn't helping the cause any and will at some point start making a lot of trouble.  It would be a real good idea to start cutting back on it and eventually stop all together.  In the long run you really will feel a lot better without it.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Thanks Lex.  Today it looks like its going to be kicking and screaming right to the bitter end. Last weeks drop seems to have finally caught up with me with a lot of brain fog, lethargy, and not caring about much of anything.  I did have a very active and rather emotional weekend, which probably is carrying over into today.  As my emotions are starting to come back it seems that they have a mind of their own as to when it is okay to really show themselves.  I've been tending to be very weepy at the most inopportune times and am having trouble keeping it under control.  Well the WD stuff should start settling down by the end of the week, we shall see.

Good to hear that Monica's out of the woods brass.

Re your dosage , what is the "ai"    ( 0.88mgai)   (assuming 11mgpw is powder weight) ?

Wow!  congrats on another drop!  Looks like there is no "jumping off" at 1mg for you, then like we saw people do at the Prior Place!  Incredible isn't it, that it still affects you, but you have come such a long, long way and now almost at the top of the mountain!  Goodonya!

It's crazy isn't it, Gran? I can't believe how many people I'm seeing still feeling drops under 1mg when we were "taught" that the drug has little effect at that dose. Just goes to show that Paxil is one potent pill. I was always planning on ditching at 1mg (if I can even make it) but now it seems 1mg is not the finish line, so I guess that tacks on another 1-3 years to my taper. I'm going for the record, guys!

Seriously though, I'm really happy to see you on the final stretch. And even though you are having some issues, I know it's still a huge improvement overall. Congrats! ((HUGS))

Found copies of the occupancy charts and wanted to save them here so I can find them again.

post-1-0-75875600-1398293869.png

I had been thinking all along that 1mg was the target. Timinjapan jumped off there after a proper taper and he had some trouble during the first year which made me reconsider.  Then when we mover here to SA the information became overwhelming that it was best to go down a lot further.  I think it will be impossible to go to low, but right now I'm looking at the .5-.4mg range. Primarily for the reason that I will run out of gel caps around there and don't want to buy more.

The things that I am experiencing now are hardly a shadow of what they were just a year ago, but I want to document them for others to learn from.  IRL I'm functioning the best I have in years, and managing to handle everything "life" is throwing at me right now.  It's shaping up to be quite the transition year on many fronts.  Trying to schedule everything is taking some doing as they are all variable and interdependent.  But so far it's all working out.

From NZ11:

The equivalent strengths paper was very interesting i want to put this here.

I wonder if there is any subjective-ness to this.

From the paper, dosage of fluoxetine 40 mg/day (a high dosage; "normal" dosage of fluoxetine is 20mg) was equivalent to:

  • paroxetine 34.0 mg/day
  • agomelatine 53.2 mg/day
  • amitriptyline, 122.3 mg/day
  • bupropion 348.5 mg/day
  • clomipramine 116.1 mg/day
  • desipramine 196.3 mg/day
  • dothiepin 154.8 mg/day
  • doxepin 140.1 mg/day
  • escitalopram 18.0 mg/day (note: 9mg escilatopram = 20mg fluoxetine, the "normal" dose of fluoxetine)
  • fluvoxamine 143.3 mg/day
  • imipramine 137.2 mg/day
  • lofepramine 250.2 mg/day
  • maprotiline 118.0 mg/day
  • mianserin, 101.1 mg/day
  • mirtazapine 50.9 mg/day
  • moclobemide 575.2 mg/day
  • nefazodone 535.2 mg/day
  • nortriptyline 100.9 mg/day
  • reboxetine 11.5 mg/day
  • sertraline 98.5 mg/day
  • trazodone 401.4 mg/day
  • venlafaxine 149.4 mg/day

Oh ow, oh oww, oh ouch. Partially dislocated elbow. Picked up a can of soda wrong.  Couldn't move my arm for two days.  It's calmed down a bit now but my doctor says put my hand in my pocket and leave it there for six weeks.  Have some braces to take the pressure off of it, but now just have to wait it out.  At least it's calmed down to where I can type a bit, but everything else will be left handed for a while.

I'm sitting in a fantastic hotelroom in Cleveland waiting for Monica to wake up so we can get on with a busy day. Things are going well all around, survived a very uncomfortable red eye flight and a full day on 3 hours partual sleep with not real ill effects. Now I get to go hang with "the family" for a few days.

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

None of the published articles shed light on what ssri's ... actually do or what their hazards might be. Healy 2013.

This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality!

I had heard that too, and was hoping to "jump off" at 1mg..... it is good we can share our experiences and learn from one another.  What are gel caps???

.

Can you give me a link to the above diagrams on my journal please Tom so that they are bigger and readable?

Sorry about your elbow, these things are a nuisance.  It has to be all part of it all, as I had a shoulder that kept wanting to jump out for about a year and suddenly went away by itself.  Yesterday my left hand felt like it had a broken bone, but today is okay!

URGENT REQUEST Please consider submitting  for the petition on Prescribed Drug Dependence and Withdrawal currently awaiting its third consideration at the Scottish Parliament. You don't even have to be from Scotland. By clicking on the link below you can read some of the previous submissions but be warned many of them are quite harrowing.

http://www.parliament.scot/GettingInvolved/Petitions/PE01651

Please tell them about your problems taking and withdrawing from antidepressants and/or benzos.

Send by email to petitions@parliament.scot and quote PE01651 in the subject heading. Keep to a maximum of 3 sides of A4 and you can't name for legal reasons any doctor you have consulted. Tell them if you wish to remain anonymous. We need the numbers to help convince the committee members we are not isolated cases. You have until mid February. Thank you

"Every time I read of a multi-person shooting, I always presume that person had just started a SSRI or had just stopped."  Dr Mosher. Me too!

Over two decades later, the number of antidepressant prescriptions a year is slightly more than the number of people in the Western world. Most (nine out of 10) prescriptions are for patients who faced difficulties on stopping, equating to about a tenth of the population. These patients are often advised to continue treatment because their difficulties indicate they need ongoing treatment, just as a person with diabetes needs insulin. Healy 2015

Pathetic isn't it NZ11. Monica's and my sleep patterns are almost reversed so I get a number of hours of "quiet time" waiting for her to wake up. This has been more of a working holiday than a real one. It was planned as an 80th birthday party for Monica's older sister, but then her sister's ex passed away a few days ago so the memorial service got thrown in on top of it. Plus we were shopping for a headstone for her mothers grave, so that took a lot of time. Hum, do I detect a theme here? The rest of the time has been socalizing with her extended family, which, like most families, are fine in small doses. However, it's a lovely hotel and today is wonderfully moody with gray clouds and light rain which is nice to look at out the windows.

Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Back from the trip safe and sound. It was very active but had a good time over all. Now trying to catch up with all the little real life stuff that keeps us entertained.  Spent the afternoon doing taxes, seems like you just get them done and a year later you have to do them all again. Have a bunch of little pain in the .... stuff cropping up to go along with the elbow issues, which are improving slowly. Came down with  sty in my right eye so it is all swollen and uncomfortable and now a huge knot in my lower back.  Oh well we have to have something to complain about.  About to go out and celebrate 37 years of wedded bliss at a fancy restaurant.

This is good to hear you are doing well Brass. You were a big help with my taper process at a previous but now defunct web site. WOW! You are finally below the 1mg mark so how has it been for you? Also is it safe to assume that you are slowing down your drops and holding for longer periods?

I'm going through an insomnia spell and I think I may do a slight updose to my previous level sine I have some important engagements in the coming weeks and can't afford to wait for my current dose to stabilize since I don't know how long that will take.

Good to see you are doing well!

Brass,

When you have a moment, could you read my thread updates, I would like to hear your input. Thanks Ali

10 years citalopram 30mg- tapered down in December 15/2015- Jan 15/2016 to 20mg for two weeks, ten for one week and five for another week, then stopped, less then two weeks later, sheer hell broke lose with debilitating withdrawal symptoms.

Update-- reinstated 5mg of celexa on feb 5-- within hours noticed immediate difference in WD symptoms-- Holding holding and more holding.

Updose- March 23/16 too 10mg- relieved the harsher head symptoms- current symptoms headaches, dizzy, numbness and tingling in my head.

Benzos- 2015-Ativan on and off for 6 months 2mg- switched to clonazepam nov 2015- 2mg till Jan 2016 Zopiclone 7.5mg nov-dec 2015- was tapered off over 4weeks- Currently in protracted withdrawal. ????????????????????????????????

Update- ended up in the hospital April 18/16 major suicidal ( never had that before) was admitted/ been there ever since, put me back to full dose celexa 30mg no drugs added, IAM FINALLY STABLE AFTER 3 months of tortuous hell. Got a great physiatrist that new all about WD, he will help me taper properly in a couple of months at 5% deductions holding 8 weeks. I never want to relive that hell again.

Udate- stable and holding, doing things slowly is key.

You've done so well Brass. The under 1mg club. Nice!!!

Are you finding it tricky still to weigh? I found a weird thing with my scale, if I drop the powder from a bit higher, it 'shocks' the tray into feeling the impact....or something...lol...I dont know, but it seems to work better. Honestly at this point Im weighing out .006 to .007g  when it starts to get this fickle its like Im on a different dose every day, but its so small i dont notice it. Still...we all know how sneaky this beast is, so i try to keep it constant as much as possible.

I'm finding that if I don't hit it on the first try it is next to impossible to flick off a small amount and adjust things.  Some days it's really easy others it takes eight or nine tries.  I try to justify it to my self that the small variations are preparing my body for the big jump and I try to error on the low side.  I think anything below .005gpw (pill weight) is going to be too much of a pain to weigh and load into capsules so that is my current target.  That will put my dose at just under .04mgai (active ingredient).

Congratulations on another drop!  How fantastic that you have come so far, and it is an encouragement to the rest of us too.  I was wondering how long I could go weighing it, because even now, I have trouble holding it to file, but sounds like you have managed okay.  I was wondering if you are filing and weighing the tablet or just filing the whole tablet and weighing the powder?

Hi GrandmaD-- There's nothing big enough to file anymore.  I crush the tablets to a fine powder and weigh that and put it in gel caps.  The pile of powder is smaller than the head of a paper match.  I use the tip of the file to scoop a tiny amount onto the scales to weigh.

Day four at this dose and the symptoms hit this afternoon.  Quick and dirty brain fog, DR and extreme apathy.  Lasted about an hour then lifted.  Now I'm just really tired, but I had to do a lot of extra walking today at work and it is the end of the week so that's pretty normal.

Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hi Grandma! I  know you asked Brass, but we've done the same method all the way down (using tablets and a scale, not water and syringes) so I'll share how Ive managed. I take my tablets and put them between two spoons and crush them into powder and really tiny pieces. THen I sprinkle them in the tray and use the tweezers to pick out small bits if my weight is too high, until I have the correct number.

Hope that helps!

Effexor 75mg to 262.5mg 2005-2010 for post partum depression

I had been thinking all along that 1mg was the target. Timinjapan jumped off there after a proper taper and he had some trouble during the first year which made me reconsider.  Then when we mover here to SA the information became overwhelming that it was best to go down a lot further.  I think it will be impossible to go to low, but right now I'm looking at the .5-.4mg range. Primarily for the reason that I will run out of gel caps around there and don't want to buy more.

Sounds like you are on holidays someplace?  Have a good time!

This I get... bones feeling bad.  I was just looking at Glenmullen's old book the other day Prozac Backlash and he has a chapter called rattling bones.  I read it years ago but can't recall exactly what that chapter is about.  Digging in my brain I recall something about serotonin hurting the bones... and beer was the cure... silicone in beer to cure your bones too bad I can't drink but if anyone dares to drink to cure their bones I recall the brand with the highest silicone... it was Keiths Ale I guess I tucked that away for a rainy day.  It is odd how I can think of some things and others completely escape me.

Congratulations on the cut Brass seems your doing it all the right way and keeping your life together in the process that is the way to do this!  My hat is off to you!

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

I am so excited about how close you are to getting to the end of this journey! You continue to amaze me with your strength and patience and I could not be happier for you!!

40 years old and have been on 20 mg of Paxil for the last 19 years. Multiple unsuccessful attempts to quit over the years.01/2015 Was tapering using liquid Paxil. MD has prescribed 1 ml = 2mg taper every two weeks or once withdrawal symptoms at that dose subside. Reduced from 20 to 10 mg using this method and at 10 mg severe withdrawal set in. 1.5 months of pure hell. Found SA, learned what was happening, and reinstated to 20 mg. After a month of severe symptoms recovered with the reinstatement. Fish oil - Multi Vitamin - Pro-biotic, amino-acid/B Vitamin supplement every day. Magnesium as needed.08/09/15 - 18 mg - 09/08/15 - 16.4 mg - 10/10/15 - 15 mg - 01/02/16 - 13.6 mg 02/15/16 - 12.0 mg - Bad symptom flare up 40 days into drop - Dizziness, panic/anxiety, overheating (esp at night), low appetite, headache, insomnia with bizarre dreams, internal shaking. 04/16/16 - 11mg - 7/17/16 - 10 mg holding.....

Interesting about beer, serotonin and silicone btdt, I'll have to look in to that further.

Thank you Jlynn.  Once you get in the groove it's pretty easy to just keep going and going and going.  I can't wait for the taper to be over, but then there comes the unknown of recovery.

GrandmaD-- The gel caps were easier for handling the powder and made it easy to take the meds when I travel. Also the powder tastes pretty nasty.
