Hello

I am thinking of starting to taper Paxil. I am on 14 mg of Valium and 20 mg of Paxil. I have some scales and would rather taper that way. However I don't think all the tablets weigh the same. Whatever the weight, should I just shave 10% off the total, Thanks for any help or advice

Paxil 30 mg in 1994 and stopped cold turkey in 2000 Took nothing from 2000 to 2005

Paxil 2005 at 30 mg Diazepam in 2005 at 30 mg quickly reduced to 4 mg of diazepam, Slowly tapered to 20 mg of Paxil and start at the dose until June 2019

August 2019 added Ambien 10 mg and 120 mg of propranolol also 30 mg of Diazepam, November 2019 Zoloft 20 mg {6 weeks}, January 2020 Citalopram 20 mg {4 weeks} February 2020 Effexor 112 {6 weeks}

March 2020 Paxil 20 MG Stopped taking 120 mg of propranolol in 2021

I am currently taking 20 mg of Paxil, 20 mg of Diazepam and 10 mg of Ambien

I am start a slow taper of Paxil when my scales arrive next week, I will update with each drop in dose

4 th November 2022, 20 mg of Paxil, 10 mg of Zolpidem and tapered down to 15 mg of Diazepam. 5th December dropped to 13.75 mg of Diazepam, 5/1/23 dropped to 12.5 mg of diazepam, Feb 24th 2023 cut to 10 mg of Diazepam. 31/3/23 Dropped from 10 mg of Zolpidem to 7.5.14/4/23 up dosed to 10 mg of Zolpidem. June 10th 2023 crossed over from 10 mg of Zolpidem to 5 mg of Diazepam. Now on 15 mg of Diazepam and 20 mg of Paxil. 29/6/23 dropped to 14 mg of Diazepam

@Kingy my pills all had different weights so I took an average. For example if you weigh 10 pills together and divide by 10 then moving forward you can use that as the base weight. My Apotex paroxetine is 118.4 mg for 10 mg of actual drug so 59.2 mg is 5 mg and so on. Hope that helps.

OK thanks, so weigh 10 pills, divide by 10 and whatever that weight is use it as the base, irrespective of the weight of the tablet you are about to cut. Mine are 20 mg tablets and I am hoping to cut by 10% every  4 to 6 weeks. Thanks for your help

I will, I think 5% every 3 to 4 weeks would be more comfortable. Thanks for your help

Hi @Kingy

Im also on Paxil and have started the brassmonkey slide by 5% every 4 weeks with a hold of 2 weeks . It was relatively easier going from 50mg to 20mg. I started this method and I'm down to 18mg and had one bad week. I continue this till it gets too hard. I also have Seroquel to the mix that I've previously tapered. I work full time that'd why I'm going slow. Too many failed attempts, I've learnt my lesson 😒

  • 1995 started Paxil 20mg slowly increasing to 50mg 2014 I decided to tapper myself not knowing how too and crashed , DR added 50mg of Seroquel

  • Through the years made many mistakes tapering

  • Started Tapering Both drugs at the same time 7.5% per month Paxil 9% Seroquel doing daily micro-taper

  • Guided by Mark Horowitz

  • 31/3/24 Paxil 10.31mg

  • 31/3/24 Seroquel 9.9mg
