PearlsMom1979: Boiling Rage/Anger and Cognitive Decline

Update for records:

Hit another mild wave 2 days back

Pearl sleeps at almost 3-4 AM so we let her sleep till the time she wants.

She wakes up normally at 9 AM, so only around 5-6 hours of sleep per day. But she goes not seem tired or agitated even with this short strech of sleep.

Her fear has come back as well. She sometimes seems scared and when I soothe her she is fine. But this happens multiple times a day.

Also no improvement in her lack of interest to do anything involving brain related work.

She continues to watch TV, sometimes reads newspaper or story books. She plays lots of video games.

But still does not want to touch her course books.

Otherwise overall things are far better now.

Hey, sorry to hear about the new wave! It must be tiring to have to be around all the time..

It's really a guess, but the issue with the course books could be that she gets reminded of school and wants to avoid it as a stressful situation altogether. How does it go with other kids outside of the school environment?

Avoiding the brain related work is a really good observation, I believe. It reminded me of my first post-psychotic episode (after a few weeks on Risperidon), when my father suggested playing chess. I loved playing with him as a kid, but with the antipsychotic I simply couldn't.. I was tunneling through in a single direction of thought, essentially overthinking each move, to the point that it was boring for both of us. So we switched to another simpler game as a form of entertainment, and that worked out well. I was also thankful to my father spending time with me.

Have you tried playing board games together or looking for a club nearby? In a playful state, the mind can relax and still be active. Maybe try something collaborative. In general video games are a good way of venting - we used to play a lot as a teenagers. That was a safe space to vent out the anger and often helplessness we felt towards the world outside (my country was undergoing a major economic shift back then, so violence was present everywhere). On the positive side, multiplayer games also provided ways to feel as part of a community. I'm just suggesting the board games as an addition, to help with rebuilding real-life connections too.

Hugs and thank you for being there! 🤗

In the end of 2015, got into a few days of psychosis and got an outpatient appointment with a psychiatrist, a diagnosis of schizo-affective disorder and a 2 month treatment with Risperidone. At the current point in time, my doctor is not convinced anymore in the diagnosis, rather points out depression and anxiety as my main condition, but I'm still taking Abilify as prevention therapy.

  • 2016 - 7.5 mg Abilify; 2017 - 2018 - 2 mg; April 2019 - May 2020 - 5 mg; June - December 2020 - 4.5 - 2.3 mg (-10% / month)

-> early 2021 - upped a little bit because of a depressive episode and insomnia

  • March 2021 to Jan 2022 - down to 0.7 mg

-> Feb 2023 - another depression+insomnia episode, so up again; added vit. B3, melatonin, L-tryptophan and split the Abilify dose in two

  • May 2022 to Nov 2022 - 2 mg down to 0.75 mg

-> middle of January 2023 - insomnia kicked in, some derealizations too; so up to:

  • Jan-April - 1 mg Abilify up to 1.5 mg; added Quetiapin 6 mg for a month, then down to 0 mg

Current: staying at 0.5 mg Abilify to stabilize

@PearlsMom1979

Thanks for the update. Glad things are better overall for now.  It sounds like you have a very good handle on all that is going on. It's good that she has you there fighting for her health.  Improvement is slow and she has done very well. I am sure there will be more improvement in the future as well.

Thank you so much for taking time out for writing for Pearl and sorry for not responding earlier. Yes I am doing board games also with her but she has actually never liked board games before as well. Plus her focus stays only for 10-15 mins at a time no matter what we try.

By God's grace the wave passed in 4 days and she is sleeping well again.

Fear is also almost vanished.

Somewhere in this wonderful site it is mentioned that we get waves when the healing is happening in some part of the brain and then we get windows.

I actually experienced it with Pearl.

After this recent wave which passed just 2 days before, she has started reading her course books again💓

Although she is able to focus only for 10 minutes at a time but this is something beginning after almost 1.6 years of not doing anything related to school.

And we did not ask her or push her to do it. She simply got up, went to her bookcase and started taking books out and reading 😀

Cheers to our battles and such little victories 🥳

Love and blessings for all of us here 💕
