Last night, I had a hard time falling asleep.

So i sept in am. I feel tired now and its only been 5-6 hours that I am awake.

Dont know if its the fact that I upped my dose from 5 to 6mg last night???

I image that I have to settle on that.

Dont know I much more I need to increase to feel less anxiety??

Did this sleep disruption even out?

Alto,

If I go to a clinic here in canada, they will tell me to go see my own doctor. Thats how it works.

And I told her that I had symptoms but she says that 5mg or nothing is the same. That even at 20mg in march I also had side effects....so for her the sooner I get off the better! Thats really a one way talk with her... its fustrating.

She thinks that my actual symptoms are only psychologic and relate to my fears of tapering.

And about my sleep, its good now!

Yes, it's there now Lolita.  Thank you.

Why don't we have you summarize your Prozac....... to date.......... like this:

2018.  20 February: Prozac 10 mg,  1 March: Prozac 20 mg,  4 April: 30 mg,  8 April: 20 mg,  28 April: 10 mg,  10 May: 8 mg,  13 May: 7.5 mg,

19 May: 5 mg, 23 May: 4 mg, 29 May: 5 mg., 1 June: 8 mg, 9 June: 5 mg.

Please leave out symptoms and diagnoses. In your signature.............and I'll address that further below.

And we do need ALL drugs doses, dates, and discontinuations particularly those from the last 12-24 months.  You mentioned in your initial post a 11-12 year history with A/D's and I believe Lexapro was the A/D used prior to Prozac?  The signature is a place where you can sum this all up.  Here's a sample of Songbird's signature to give you a better idea(thank you Songbird).

2001–2002 paroxetine

2003  citalopram

2004-2008  paroxetine (various failed tapers)
2008  paroxetine slow taper down to

2016  Aug off paroxetine
2016  citalopram May 20mg  Oct 15mg … slow taper down
2018  citalopram 13 Feb 4.6mg 15 Mar 4.4mg 29 Apr 4.2mg

You can see how she summed up 17 years of A/D usage here and then her current tapering down at the bottom.  So your Prozac summary to date will go down below the rest of your drug history.  I hope this helps Lolita.  Use a paper and pen or pencil if it helps.  I know I had to with your Prozac history.  Then transfer it to your signature.  That might make it easier.  Just do the best you can with what you recall.

Don't forget to list your clonazepam as well.  Dates: when started  Dates: with any changes.  Dosages.

Symptoms can go here on your main introduction page.  Your initial post has some of your symptoms and  I'll copy your current signature here for you, as you have many of your current symptoms listed there now. This narrative section is your own Intro topic where you can ask questions and record progress.

Prozac started on febuary 20th at 10mg

March 1 to april 3 : 20mg ( never felt good, stoned, dizzy, anxiety...)

April 4 to 7: 30mg...bad

April 8 to 17: 20mg had enough of SE

April 28 to may 9: 10mg (suggest by doctor )

May 10-12:  8mg ( switched to liquid form)

May 13 to15: 7.5mg (big tension headaches, tired, brain fog, anxiety still there but not the same.)

May 19 to 22: 5mg (dizziness almost all gone)

May 23 to 29: 4mg ( felt good , no big anxiety, only started to feel breathing issue like oppression by the 25) May 29 to 31 : 5mg ( crying, big anxiety, discourage, oppression) June 1 to 8: 4mg same thing June 9 to 15: 5mg breathing is better but still not as usual) June 15 to now: my symptoms vary a lot.... sometimes pretty good but anxiety after my peozac intake.

So......a little more and some revisions with the signature....... if you please........ for us Lolita.  That will be really helpful going forward.  Thank you.

And welcome aboard here at survivingantidepressants!

Love, peace, healing/in recovery, and growth,

mmt

Hey, good job.  Just add a bit with the clonazepam........date started, present dosage.  So that it is clear what you are presently taking.

If I were you Lolita.......right now.......I would stay put with your 5 mg dosage of Prozac/fluoxetine.

The other mods will weigh in soon as far as helping you find a solution to the prescription problem.  Maybe even Alto herself.

When you are comfortable with your prescription situation we can help you more along the lines of W/D and managing.

I understand your anxiety and fears now.  I've been there.  What I meant is that you are good for today with your present dosage and for several days to come.  We haven't abandoned you.  I just need to get offline and on with my own life at the moment.   The others will be along and able to help and guide you further.

Love and peace,

You wont believe it but I just found and bottle of prozac of 24 capsules 10mg.

I guess that from when I transfered from peizac caps to fluoxetine liquid.

Now I took a look of how to do a liquid form but Ill have to read it again cause I dont get it.

Plus is that safe?

And to switch from fluoxetine to prozac?

How long should I be able to do with 24?

Good to hear about the sleep.

Is there a way you can appeal her decision? Do you have the insert that came with your bottle? It has a section about withdrawal and slow tapering.

Fluoxetine is generic Prozac.  The recommended crossover from different brands, as well as tablets vs. liquids, is as follows:

First 3 days:  3/4 original brand/method, 1/4 new brand/method

Next 3 days: 1/2 original, 1/2 new

Next 3 days 1/4 original, 3/4 new

From then on all new

I have switched brands without problem with this method.  I can't speak to tablet-to-liquid since I've never done this.

Congratulations on finding more Prozac!

Hi Lolita,

The 24 capsules of 10 mg Prozac will provide you with 48 doses of 5 mg.

So we have a temporary solution.......Yay!!!!

Are you going to be able to work with your GP for further prescriptions(I'm assuming you have been working with your psychiatrist?)?

When you cross over from one form of A/D to another,  it's best to use the guide Gridley gave you above.  There can be subtle and not so subtle difference in absorption, as well as effects from the slightly changed formulation( Prozac vs fluoxetine).  Our aim in having you cross over is to minimize the possibility of any symptom effects from this.

If there is absolutely no way, as you have stated.......that you can get another prescription for the liquid fluoxetine so you can continue with that formulation at the 5 mg dose(before you run out) your best option is to do a cross over, as discussed ^.   That will take about 9 days to get you switched to taking the full 5 mg dose using your  Prozac capsules.  I think if you do a cross over it's as harm free or safe as you can get.

My best suggestion would be to try and get a prescription for the capsules of 10 mg Prozac well before you run out of them.  That way you can do tapers, of 10%  or less, later on,  after just holding at your 5mg dose, after cross, over for at least another month.  You had mentioned both a regular Dr., as well as a Psychiatrist in your initial post.  Can you work with your GP on this?  I know I said this before.    I'm hoping that with time(and well before you run out) you CAN get more prescriptions for what you need to taper.

Here is the main link on tapering Prozac.   There's a little more about the "cross over" in the first post there  You could also get some empty capsules to use to divide the contents of your present capsules into 5 mg(or less when you cross over).  You'll find more on that in the very first post here and then can decide:

I'll include this one as well if you want to do the "make your own liquid" from your capsule.

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/2693-how-to-make-a-liquid-from-tablets-or-capsules/

Take a look at both of those links especially the first several posts in them.  You'll need to get some additional supplies as well.

And don't forget you have all the links that Gridley gave you initially too.  They are all on page one of your introduction here.

From the last year, everytime I took my AD, I started to feel bad few hours after it.

Since on prozac, I never ever felt ease a bit in my anxiety. Never!

I think I started to feel a bit better around 10mg. But not enough to say that was it!

Since around a month and a half, I switched from original to fluoxetine and switched from mid day to night.

EVERYDAY, around 1 to 2 hours after I take my med, I feel so agitated, anxious, my legs feels like moving, jumping, its weird!!!

I seriously think that from the start, prozac did me wrong (anxiety, agiration, poor sleep, tiredness, dizzy,...) and fluoxetine is not helping also.

I feel a bit better during the day but really not good the hours that follow my med intake.

Its sucks! Hate prozac/fluoxetine, hate my actual condition...... : (

What times of day do you take your drugs, and their dosages? What is your sleep pattern?

It does sound like Prozac is too strong for your nervous system. But you're reducing it, so that should get better.

Hi Alto!

I take my AD around 7-8 pm and them take my clonazepam.

Im at 4mg liquid form and take around 1/4 to 1/2 of 0.5mg clonazepam.

Today I took it around 4pm.

Im tired at night but have trouble falling asleep.  I always felt that on prozac. My legs wants to jump or something...

When I use to take my AD during the day (when I was 10mg and more, I felt the symptoms appearing arounf two hours after my intakes.)

It sure doesnt fit my nervous system even if the genetic test I took a year ago said that it was a medication okay for me.

I will probably be better once of that poison !

If the Prozac makes you jumpy, it may be interfering with sleep. You might take it earlier in the day by moving it earlier an hour or so at a time until you're taking it in the morning.

What times of day do you take that benzo, and at what dosages? We need to know this. Please keep daily notes on paper about your symptoms, when you take your drugs, and their dosages.

We have lots of people here having trouble going off Prozac, even at less than 5mg. Your doctor's belief that this is a negligible dose is incorrect. But don't try and change her mind, ask to file an appeal of her decision, on the grounds you get withdrawal symptoms while reducing it already.

Refer to the package insert in the capsules, here it is, print it out page 10 and draw a circle around this section

Quote

5.12 Long Elimination Half-Life

Because of the long elimination half-lives of the parent drug and its major active metabolite, changes in dose will not be fully reflected in plasma for several weeks, affecting both strategies for titration to final dose and withdrawal from treatment. This is of potential consequence when drug discontinuation is required or when drugs are prescribed that might interact with fluoxetine and norfluoxetine following the discontinuation of fluoxetine [see Clinical Pharmacology (12.3)].

5.13 Discontinuation of Treatment

During marketing of PROZAC, SNRIs, and SSRIs, there have been spontaneous reports of adverse reactions occurring upon discontinuation of these drugs, particularly when abrupt, including the following: dysphoric mood, irritability, agitation, dizziness, sensory disturbances (e.g., paresthesias such as electric shock sensations), anxiety, confusion, headache, lethargy, emotional lability, insomnia, and hypomania. While these reactions are generally self-limiting, there have been reports of serious discontinuation symptoms. Patients should be monitored for these symptoms when discontinuing treatment with PROZAC. A gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible. If intolerable symptoms occur following a decrease in the dose or upon discontinuation of treatment, then resuming the previously prescribed dose may be considered. Subsequently, the physician may continue decreasing the dose but at a more gradual rate. Plasma fluoxetine and norfluoxetine concentration decrease gradually at the conclusion of therapy which may minimize the risk of discontinuation symptoms with this drug.

Show this to your doctor when you request a formal appeal of her decision -- be sure to do this politely but firmly.

So that leaves me 22 days.

Im in my SPM big time.

Feel  jittery when trying to go to bed. A lot of tiredness during the day also.

Today full anxiety... probably due to SPM also.

Called my doc and she had the chance to call me back.

Told her I felt soo bad. Total anxiety, palpitations at night, slight dizziness, tired, racing throughts, shaky, feeling agressive and irritable, restless leg and body at night... she suggest I up my dose at 10mg until next appointment.

I was taking 3.8mg-4mg since a week. Should I raise to 10 in one dose ???

I am leaving for vacation in 12 days. Just want to do the best thing so I can enjoy the beach and feel good.

Also.... if I upped my dose, should I try to go back on capsules? The pharmacy received my doctor's prescription and it says to go back at 10mg prozac. So that leave me about 12-14 days of fluoxetine liquid.

In my case, do wr talk about a reinstation or only of dosage change cause I never withdraw totally from my AD?!  Is it going to be as hard?

Ill give it a chance but if by july 19th I dont feel well, Ill try zoloft. The only one that I was able to take for few years but not at high dose this time.

Ask her for another prescription for 10mg capsules. Tell her you're going to stay on that for a good long time.

On 6/13/18, you said you were taking 6mg Prozac and it was okay, you were sleeping. Why did you reduce to 3.8mg-4mg? We've told you over and over to stop changing your dosage.

If I were you, I'd go to 5mg and stay there. You'll have the prescription for 10mg but you might take only 5mg.

Is this your usual schedule? We need to know what you've been doing, when you've been taking each drug, and at what dosage. It could be the clonazepam that's causing your symptoms, not the Prozac.

We need to know this for every day:

I know Ive change my dose but my sleep pattern didnt improve for long after the 6mg. And with the doc pushing me to taper, I got scared!!!!

I will definitly get back on 5mg!

Still have my liquid but only for 12 or 14 days I think. After that, I will have to open a capsule and try to divide the half of 10mg to make 5mg.

When you say that you ask several times for the time and dose I take...I told you... its around 4pm for prozac and 9pm for clonazepam.

Did you mean that I should write it here everyday??? Cause I write this on my calender everyday!

I know I sound stubborn, silly or just out of it but Im getting really depressed and Im kind of seeing everything negativly those days. Its not me....not who I am, not who I want to be!

I keep on making mistakes or bad moves and feel like Im disappointing people around me!

According to your signature, you switched ADs seven times last year.  Every time you switch meds, you confuse your system more.  Your system wants to find stability, but things keep changing so it can't.  At this stage there may not be a drug or dose that will magically cure all your symptoms.  If you keep everything stable for a good while, things might settle down to a more bearable level.  You may have to accept that some symptoms may be with you for quite some time, and find some non-med ways to cope with them.

Yes you are right Songbird about the multiples cganges of ad. I figure it cause a stress in my system. I thought that if the updosing doesnt help me stabilise, I would be better with another one that used to fit me best than what prozac brought me since im on it. I thought Alto said prozac might not be the best suit for me, so thats why I said that.

But I will stop changing my dose.

So yesterday, was a mess.

Took prozac 5mg at 15h00

Clonazepam 0.125mg at 16h00

Hi!

So the last few days were almost the same as what I last wrote.

I feel that I probably lowered too much, too fast in the last weeks.

I am still at 5mg like you guys suggested me but feel like Im going downhill.

The shakiness, anxiety, sore legs all day long and feets are still there.  I guess this is withdrawal symptoms.

I have been around 5mg for a while now.

Of course, I lowered it a little in the last weeks but didnt touch anything recently.

I feel like my dose is probably too low right now.

Im leaving for vacation in a week and I would like to know what you guy would do in my situation??? Stay and feel miserable or take a higher dose?

Also, what would be the best time to take it?

Thanks

You've only been back at 5mg for a few days, correct?  You've made a lot of dose changes in a short time.  If you keep changing dose, it causes more confusion in your system.  Every time you change your dose, your system needs to adjust, which takes some time.  Your system needs consistency, the same dose every day, in order to adjust and rebalance.  See: the rule of 3KIS - keep it simple keep it slow keep it stable

Hi Songbird !

Yes I am still at 5mg just like you guys told me to do.... I stopped changing my dosages! But I definitly dont feel well. Its like my body or brain is missing some more. Maybe 5mg isnt enough to stabilise.?

I did changed my dosage in may and in the beginning of june....but always around 4 or 5 mg...but not since last week.

Its like if the 5mg is not enough.

I decided to put my tapering on the ice. Just want to stabilise and will see in a few months. But for now, shouldI go a little more on my intake... like 6 or7 or 8mg?

You're going to need to give 5mg Prozac a chance for much longer than a few days. Please continue to let us know your dosage and symptom pattern.

Many people do better with fish oil and magnesium supplements, see

A lot of people find them helpful. Try a little bit of one at a time to see how it affects you.

Magnesium in particular can help with "restless legs" at night.

Remember to ask your doctor for another prescription for 10mg Prozac capsules. Tell her you're going to stay on that for a good long time.

Thanks Alto!

My dose is 5mg and I only switched to take it around 13pm instead of the end of the day because I have a hard time falling asleep at night. I made that change yesterday.

Feeling tired and a bit dizzy today.

Doc called and I need to take some iron because Im low. She says I can take natural product if I have trouble with digestion.

I already take magnesium at night and omega.

Doc also stopped my tapering and prescribed me fluoxetine so that is a good thing not to worry about!
