Moderator Emeritus Popular Post Erell Posted October 26, 2023 Author Moderator Emeritus Popular Post Share Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) Hello dear humans, I apologise for any concern my absence may have caused. After 4 years of logging on here every day, I needed to learn not to come here any more. I was medicated at 14, never learned to live with my emotions, never learned that it was OK to have them, and spent much of my life afraid of my mind and body. I've been holding for almost a year now and I'm very lucky because my physical symptoms have greatly diminished, such as agitation, digestive problems, dizziness. On the other hand, 'psychological' symptoms such as agoraphobia, panic, intrusive thoughts and OCD are still very intense and constant. I got to the point where I needed to consider that these were no longer necessarily withdrawal symptoms, and that I might have to be proactive to move forward. (Note that I'm in no way saying that this is the case for everyone, or that prolonged withdrawal doesn't exist, not at all. I'm just saying that, in my case, I needed to make this hypothesis and I need to take care of myself by going beyond the withdrawal issue.) (And it's also possible that the drugs I'm still taking are also playing a role in these psychological symptoms.) To do this, among other things, I'm trying to relearn how to feel safe and to learn that I'm capable of experiencing and accepting the manifestations of my body and mind. To do this, I felt I had to come here less often. How can I teach my brain that I'm not in danger and that I'm capable of supporting myself and capable of practicing acceptance of what is if I'm constantly seeking reassurance from others? I'm still suffering, still wondering if I'll manage to taper my drugs, but I'm learning and starting to believe in myself. I love you so much: as cheesy as it may sound, it's true. You've given me so much support and acceptance, you're the people who taught me everything I'm now trying to put in place. I feel so lucky to have met you. I still don't know how to combine my need to experiment outside SA with the deep attachment I feel for this community. I'll be back from time to time to give you my news and, above all, to read your updates. ❤️ Edited October 26, 2023 by Erell 10 2006 : 20mg Paxil+Bromazepam. 2008 : cold turkey of both. 2010 : Reinstatement 20mg Paxil + Bromazepam. 2014-June2017 : Switch from Bromazepam to Prazepam, slow taper to 0mg. 2018 to August 2019 : Paxil 20mg taper (3% every 15 days). 22 Aug 2019 updose to 10mg (was at 8.4mg). 25th Sept 2019 To April 2020 : found SA, holding at 10mg Paxil. Oaktree1
Hi Erell, That's the best news I have heard in ages. I was so relieved to see your post this evening and to know that you are getting the strength to move forward. So relieved to read that so many of the physical symptoms have improved. Moderator Emeritus getofflex Posted October 28, 2023 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted October 28, 2023 Erell, I want to respond and say just how grateful I am to hear that your physical symptoms have greatly diminished! It looks like holding for a year has helped, a lot. On 10/26/2023 at 1:26 PM, Erell said: I was medicated at 14, never learned to live with my emotions, never learned that it was OK to have them, and spent much of my life afraid of my mind and body. This makes me sad to hear. 😕 I am relearning now, how to live with my own emotions. On 10/26/2023 at 1:26 PM, Erell said: On the other hand, 'psychological' symptoms such as agoraphobia, panic, intrusive thoughts and OCD are still very intense and constant. These could be partly the WD, and partly just the fact that like you said, you didn't get a chance to learn to deal with emotions. I know I didn't learn to deal with my emotions, either. I have to tell you that Claire Weekes is really good at helping people to cope with fear, agoraphobia, and anxiety. There are lots of good resources from her on both YouTube, and amazon. Another good one, is the book called "The Feeling Good Handbook" by David C. Burns. It it, he uses cognitive behavior therapy methods to help us to lessen our anxiety, depression, etc. There are lots of good exercises in there. On 10/26/2023 at 1:26 PM, Erell said: I'm learning and starting to believe in myself. This is wonderful! It will help with fear and anxiety, I think. On 10/26/2023 at 1:26 PM, Erell said: I'm capable of experiencing and accepting the manifestations of my body and mind. I'm going through the same thing myself. I'm amazed at the intensity of my emotions, and sometimes, this is scary for me. However, I'm starting to realize that although emotions can be pretty uncomfortable, they will pass, as long as I express it appropriately. Mentor mstimc Posted October 29, 2023 Mentor Share Posted October 29, 2023 My dear Erell You are often in my thoughts and prayers. I, too, pulled back from my participation in paxulprogress.org for the same reason--I found being constantly on the site reminded me I have anxiety and OCD. I backed away but came back from time to time, especially as I progressed in recovery so I could share success stories. Take the time you need to heal. Be kind to yourself. So happy your physical symptoms are decreasing. I sincerely hope the mental and emotional symptoms soon fade as well, as I know they will. Rosetta
All my love to you, Erell. 💜I hope you can find a way to feel more comfortable with your emotions. Now that I have been off ADs for 6 years, my emotions are much more muted. I had no idea that it was possible to feel a lesser degree of anger or sadness or any other negative emotion. I was told that I was too emotional for so long, and I never knew it had to do with adverse reactions to drugs or alcohol because my nervous system was dysregulated. Perhaps there are other causes to your emotional issues and perhaps not. In my experience, the physical effects of these adverse drug consequences are much less troublesome than the emotional problems and the emotional problems last longer, but they do fade. I believe that you will eventually reach a normal level of operation in your flight/flight system, and you will see an enormous difference. Taking a step back from SA may be a part of allowing your nervous system to settle, and that’s ok. Take care of yourself!
