Hi,

I have stopped tapering at the moment to let my nervous system settle down to baseline. I have treated the lyme with little improvement so my llmd wants to try to treat the Bartonella I am also unfortunately positive for 😔. I will give it a few months but if I see no benefit I will l most likely caulk it up to just damage from the effexor and lyme and just hope to heal slowly.

I did ask my psychiatrist about reinstatement but she seemed scared and quickly shook her head no with out giving me much reasons. I suppose after almost two years off that drug it might not be worth the try.

Currently on:

Paxil 20

Valium 2mg x3

Gabapentine 300mg x3

I would studder and shake and could stand a few months ago with any stimulating events but that has greatly reduced. If that gives you hope 🙏🏼

Hi ! Just to send you lots of good energy to your new treatment. Fingers crossed 🤞

Thank you for the encouragement! Still in the woods here …

stay strong I’m rooting for you ❤️

I've moved you new topic to the Tips for Tapering Paxil topic.  You can find it here:

  tips-for-tapering-off-paxil-paroxetine

The answers to your questions may already have been answered in that topic.

When working with prescription liquid it is better to think and calculate in mgs and then convert that to mL.

Check to see what strength the prescription liquid is for your liquid.  Also note that the discard after opening date may be different for Paxil brand and generics.

Hello members,

I am interested in your thoughts and had a few questions I am currently on:

Paxil 15mg switching to liquid

Valium 3mg maintaining dose

Gabapentine 900mg maintaining dose

Fludrocortisone 0.1mg debating reduction

My story is not to complex I was on Effexor XR 150mg for about 20 years or more and crossed tapered to zoloft over 6months time. I developed parkasinism type symptoms with fully body spasms and loss of certain motor control. I was slowly deteriorating in most body systems including immune as I had reactivation of lyme. I was then switched to Paxil 20mg, Gabapentine 900mg, Valium now down to 3mg and Fludrocortisone 0.1 for POTS I developed.

I am currently stuck between if I have a chronic lyme infection or PAWS. It has been 28 months since my Effexor withdrawl and I fortunately have some improvements but man it be great to communicate with a freind about what I went through. I'm currently still dealing with although I did make matters worse dropping 5mg of the Paxil last week 😬 neuropathy, weakness, anhedonia, vertigo,CRPS,Fibromyalgia, circulation issues in feet, etc.

I'm bed ridden unemployed and disabled struggling to figure things out. Could it be after such a dependence created on effexor that upregulation would take a decade or more and if so is it better to just go back to effexor again 🤔 😕

I ask how are you now that you have completed your tapers ?

Thanks everyone 😊 🫂

Q:  Did you go straight from 20mg Paxil to 15mg Paxil?  If yes, that is a 25% reduction.  SA recommends reducing by 10% or less of current dose.

Q:  Did you make a reduction at the same time as changing over to liquid Paxil?  SA recommends only make one change at a time.

Please update your drug signature.  Include all dose changes and the date that you stated that dose so that we can see exactly what reductions/increases you have done and when.

Thank you.

Q1: yes I reduced Paxil by 25% pill form still

I'm working on switching to liquid form by next month depending if I restabilize or actually I could have her call it in on Monday and Updose in liquid form a bit 🤔

Q2: no other changes except Fludrocortisone decrease from .2 to .1

When you make more than one change at a time it makes it very difficult to know what is causing any issues if they happen.  Some members find that changing from tablet to liquid can cause problems.  If a reduction is made at the same as changing to liquid then you will not know if it is the change to liquid or the reduction that has caused the problem or it could be both things causing the problem/s.

Yes I agree and it seems it might be best to ride this out until I restabilize at some point. I am unsure if going back to 20mg will help or make things worse at this point

It's been 10 days on the new dose according to your signature.  You would NOT go back to 20mg because your brain will already have made some adjustment to getting the lower dose.  If your symptoms have worsened since the 25% Paxil reduction and are unbearable then you might find that taking a little bit more (eg 1mg) might be enough to lessen the symptoms.  It is better to make a small increase than to risk taking too much.

It takes about 4 days for a dose change to get to full level in the blood and a bit longer for it to register in the brain.

Yes I agree again but I unfortunately don't have the euipment to dry cut and weigh 😕. Maybe I'll look at some scales tonight if you suggest the tapering is safer to dry cut and weigh instead of switching to liquid. The only reason I thought the liquid was better was for accuracy reasons as the scales aren't very good.

And thanks for your time ChessieCat😊

Many members use the Gemini 20.  Brassmonkey used it for the whole of his taper and got down to very low doses using it.

I ask how are you now that you have co played your tapers ?

Thanks Frogie 😊 🫂

I have not read your thread, but have you been tested for lyme disease? Have you been tested for Fibromyalgia, is that why you are on gabapentin? The reason I ask is that I do have Fibromyalgia. I was on gabapentin for years, and I was quickly tapered off of it by a psychiatrist. I have since learned to manage my Fibromyalgia with stretching exercises and such and can keep it under control without too much trouble.

I also think some of your problem could be that you cut Paxil by 5 mg all at once. That is way too fast, especially for Paxil. It is a difficult antidepressant to taper off of. If it has only been a few days, I would reinstate the 5 mg and hold for a while for stability. When did/are you switching to liquid? You want to do this carefully and only one change at a time.

What time do you take the Valium? How long have you been taking this dose?

If you can answer these questions for me, I can help you better.

Thanks...

Thanks...

I copied your PM you sent to me so that all the moderators on here could read it and help also:

Hello,

I'm currently still dealing with although I did make matters worse dropping 5mg of the Paxil last week 😬 neuropathy, weakness, anhedonia, vertigo,CRPS,Fibromyalgia, etc.

Yes I have a late stage disseminated lyme apparently chronic that has been treated unfortunately there are no good test to know when your in remission.  Fibromyalgia is just a diagnoses of symptoms that I have so yes that was also diagnosed and also chronic reginal pain syndrome. These issues started after a CT of Effexor and have remaind with slow gradual improvements in waves and windows.

I did reduce by 25% Paxil a little over a week ago but am now feeling some windows and just recently less insomnia so I will maintain 15mg. I will be dry cutting by 10% when fully stabilized

Valium I take 1mg x3 a day and have been lowering this slowly over a year with little issue. I am currently only focused on reducing Paxil slowly.

I'm thinking most of my issues are compounded from a CT off of longterm Effexor use followed by poly pharm. I am hopeful after discontinuing Paxil I will be able to heal hopefully

Unfortunately, there are no lyme disease tests that are 100% accurate from what I understand, but from what I have learned, it can go into remission like you said without knowing. Fibromyalgia is just a series of poking in different areas and then diagnosing you. I have it and they put me on Gabapentin for it. I took it for 15-20 years and am doing fine without it with stretching and such.

I can give you a link on how to taper off Paxil. And also, the Brassmonkey Slide is a great option. He actually developed it when he tapered off Paxil.

The Brassmonkey Slide Method of Micro-tapering

Tips for tapering off paroxetine (Paxil, Seroxat)

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

I hope you are feeling better soon.  I’m sorry you have found yourself to be a victim of polydrugging and the prescribing of drugs to treat side effects of other drugs.  Fortunately, you found SA prior to being on these drugs for many years!  You are so lucky for that.  Regardless of how long it takes to heal, you will not be cycling through CTs and withdrawals for 15 or 20 years having no idea what is happening to you.

You may find that many of your problems are related to psych drugs.  You might find that you have some issues related to environmental exposures.  Either way, you should find that they will heal with time.  I hope so.

I have switched over to eating organic food as much as possible and washing everything else.  Anything I bake has to be made with organic wheat flour.  My husband, who has never taken a psych drug, seems to react poorly to any wheat flour that is not organic, but  he can tolerate corn flour products made with corn that is not organic.  We think glyphosate is the culprit in wheat flour.  The husk of the corn protects the kernels from glyphosate perhaps.

Another issue I feel I need to work on is processed food.  Even if these foods are made with organic ingredients, the fact that they are extruded through plastic or rubber tubes in the factory could be a problem.  BPA is — hopefully — not a part of the tubing for organic food, but who knows?  What other parts of the factories’ processes affect us?  I try not to worry about it too much, but the idea of eating “whole foods” is very attractive.

I’m very happy with my progress as slow as it has been.  I have just returned from a trip that went very well, and I feel almost normal.  It’s a good feeling.  I try to resolve to not cry over spilt milk (over snd over) and be grateful that I am here at all to enjoy the rest of my life.   You will get there, and it may happen long before you are drug free.  Being stable is the key, and now you know that, so you are way ahead!

My best, Rosetta

Do what you can, when you can.  It’s a big job just to survive.  The food issues will help, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself.  If your family can change their shopping habits and cooking habits, great.  If not, you can eat some raw foods, if your system can handle them.  It may not like raw food very much.  If you eat a lot of fruit your teeth will be affected, and brushing after each meal and snack may be too much for you.

My problem is always perfectionism — if I can’t do “it” right all the time, every time, I give up.  That’s really a bad habit.  It’s better to have a “baby steps” mentality.  A little better is still better, falling back is expected and human, and just eating at all is an achievement sometimes, whether it’s the right food or not.  Keeping the blood sugar steady was a challenge for me because my system was frequently hypoglycemic due to PAWS.  I simply had to eat processed cheese sticks and peanut butter to keep from losing my mind.

That depends on where you want to be in ten years. Do you want to be on Effexor and still struggling, or do you want to be drug free and recovered, or at least in recovery? That’s the question you need to ask yourself.
That is not to say that it will take ten years. You may recover much more quickly.

I concluded that it was worth it to sacrifice a decade, or more. So that’s what I did. I was more or less bedridden for 6 of those years. There is no doubt in my mind that I made the right decision. Looking back, the years on Paxil were a complete waste of time, even though I was "happy". The years in wd hell, on the other hand, were one of the more meaningful experiences I have had.

To me, it sounds like you need to make up your mind and make a long-term plan. I’m happy to support you if you are willing to do that, and you are welcome to PM me any time.

Aurorax it is good to hear from you again and I am hlad you are still supporting others after such a long time. I feel if I taper this correctly this time I may be able to get through the withdrawls much easier. I originally did alot of harm when commingn off of effexor so quickly and still suffer leg issues weakness/small fiber neuropathy and left side what seems like hemiperisis. With that all Said my mental symptoms have improved greatly since then so I feel it's time to kick the Paxil the correct way. Have any of our members found the complex reginal pain syndrome fade as time go's on from tapering. I still have circulation issues in my legs they develop parathesisa on and off and become discolored like raynaud's phenomenon. It's most noticeable after a shower they usually become red in the same dermatome that the parathesis, neuropathy, or sfn is. It's so strange how many bodily functions are effected even digestion has slowed.

Only one test I missed is muscle biopsy and even with that I'm unsure if they have a diffrent treatment than Gabapentine,Cymbalta,Pain killers

Seems my withdrawls are returning to baseline after a really rough 20% drop. I felt the worst around the end of week 2 with weakness and leg instability. Currently I am back to my withdrawl Normal but will wait another month before switching to liquid titration. I wasn't very happy with the +/- .5g accuracy on the recommended scale but I may just may be paranoid. I hope to update everyone soon with progress in the near future,  if I can make it through over 20 years of being medicated and kindled I belive anyone can.

With that all Said my mental symptoms have improved greatly since then so I feel it's time to kick the Paxil the correct way.

Very happy to hear this. That's how it was for me, too. The mental symptoms started to clear up, and the psychical symptoms followed later.

Seems my withdrawls are returning to baseline after a really rough 20% drop. I felt the worst around the end of week 2 with weakness and leg instability. Currently I am back to my withdrawl Normal but will wait another month before switching to liquid titration.

That's good news. Some of us have struggled for several years, but it's important to remember that many people heal much more quickly. Maybe you are one of them? You haven't had the chance to heal after Effexor because of all the other drugs. Maybe you recover in no time once you are off them. Just because the symptoms are severe doesn't mean they have to last for many years.

Last night was exactly 3 weeks since my 20% drop and I experienced a Strange high feeling followed by blood preasure regulation issues and massive head preasure, light sensitivity, weakness I am still dealing with 24hrs later. I was very frightened last night with all this I also had mental status changes and felt like I was having a stroke. I have that increase in left sided weakness and hoping this passes for good soon.

Tomorrow I start my switch to liquid Paxil and I'm nervous to say the least. It has now been a little over 4 weeks since my 20% drop and my brain is still feeling it. I have had some windows in the third week but it followed a crash this week. Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏼. I need to get out of this bed and live life
