Nhairok557: New and still vomiting after 3.5 weeks after coming off 10mg of Paroxetine

Recommended Posts

I have been on Paroxetine for about 10 years. I got Colitis at the age of 38 and started suspecting that Paroxetine was doing more harm than good. I worked to taper down to 10mg. When it was time for a refill, 2/24/22, I thought I had another bottle but it was a higher dose so I couldn’t take it. I was unable to get ahold of my PCP (on vacation) and the office wouldn’t make any “changes” without her involvement. The typical sparkiness started right away but it progressed to Sunday 2/27 when I started vomiting. By the time my PCP and I connected, I had been off the med for just under a week. Symptoms continued to worsen, I had to go to the ER when I got the SSRI discontinuation syndrome diagnosis (3/2/22) I understood that symptoms would persist for a while. I got a SAD lamp to reintroduce serotonin to my system. I also had zofran to help with the nausea. Some days were okay and other days weren’t so good. Evenings were worse. I started vomiting again the evening of 3/18. Last night I lost continence and woke up in a puddle of my own poo. I decided to go again to the ER. They gave me 2 bags of fluids, took blood and did a CT. They sent me away with an “enlarged fatty liver” and a script for Zantac. I don’t feel better and I’m feeling so defeated. My friend shared this site with me. I’m hoping to hear what others have done so that I can get to the other side of this.

Welcome to SA. We are volunteer run site with member such as yourself tapering off or have gone off antidepressants such as yourself.

This is your introduction page where you will receive information, ask questions, and meet and talk with members such as yourself. We ask that each member only have one page so we can keep all your information in one place.

Instructions:  Withdrawal History Signature

From reading your introduction, you cold-turkey'd off the Paroxetine. I know you had a problem obtaining your prescription and that is what happened, is that correct?

I'm going to give you some links to read about this.

Tips for tapering off paroxetine (Paxil, Seroxat)

Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

The slowness of slow tapers

Brain Remodelling

Digestive problems:  Nausea, Diarrhoea, Bloating, GERD

We don't recommend supplements on here as they can be stimulating to the CNS (central nervous system) except two. You could try one, in a small amount and wait a few days before introducing the other.

Omega-3 Fish Oil

You could try to reinstate 1 mg of Paroxetine and see if that might help. You would wait 7-10 days to see if your symptoms persist and then you could always updose a small amount if needed.

About reinstating and stabilizing to reduce withdrawal symptoms

What is withdrawal syndrome?

@Nhairok557  Welcome to SA, and  I am so sorry that you are going through this nightmare......You did a cold turkey off of a very strong drug.

Shame on the medical field for not helping you with this..........If you can read through those link that frogie sent you.......Learn and find out how to these drugs change our brains/bodies and how you can heal from them............You are not alone....this can be a freighting thing to experience.

Try not let panic take over........What you are going through is because the body is lost without the drug.........Your body had to adapt to a new homeostasis from the changes the drugs caused in your brain and body.  These are very powerful chemicals........

Once you have a plan in place it will help you feel like you have some control in your situation.......

Learn, learn, learn so you can be apart of your healing........

Hang in there, you can do this😊
