Dr. Rosenblatt, a psychiatrist, is very knowledgeable about tapering psychiatric drugs slowly at the rate of individual tolerance. I just had an extensive conversation with him.

If you can edit the post Daniel Johnson, MD, Asheville, North Carolina currently works in Forest City,  NC and is in patient only according to the office (828) 248-1117.  I tracked down where he works and was rather disappointed.  They would not give me his personal phone number.  Most in the South East are not accepting patients currently which I called unfortunately but I know this may change for others.

My Intro FB Zyprexa 2015-September 2018

1st time I tried to come straight off of 10mg Zyprexa I was hospitalized for insane insomnia.

Current - Abilify Maintena & L Theanine(for akathisia)

This is an online doctor site that might be an option for refills (probably not tapering advice, etc):

https://www.doctorondemand.com has an initial online visit w/psychiatry for $229 which is (sadly) not a bad deal.

I do not have experience with it. Please let us know if you try it and whether you would recommend. I'm thinking it could be an option for refills if someone has exhausted other options/providers.

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide,

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

Yoga (gentle to medium); walks; daily breath practice; nutrition, fruits/veg; nature; water; EastEnders (lol); practicing self-compassion, self-care; boundaries; connection; allowing feelings; t r u s t ing that I, too, will heal. (--> may need to be reminded of this.)

Unfortunately it doesn’t help with benzo taper.   They don’t rx conttolled substances.

- Pristiq  25mg July 20, 2017 / 100mg November 29, 2017.  Last dose 25mg  December 20, 2017  - 28 yrs on antidepressants. Only other drug currently on is Lithium - 675mg.

- 1st stint on benzos (100mg Librium) November 1, 2015 to January 1, 2017 (rapid taper)

- 2nd stint on benzos (20mg Valium)  started May 1 2017.  Reinstated due to Librium rapid taper.  Tapered 100mg pristiq in 4 weeks (Jan 2018).  Currently tapered down to 10.5mg Valium where I began holding on February 12, 2018 due to rough patch. Using Ashton Method pill taper.

Updose valium to 12mg on Feb 28, 2018 / Prozac .5mg March 3 - March 5, 2018 / March 13, 2018 - valium drop of .5 to 11.5mg

Valium now 10mg as of May 23, 2018

Lithium 150mg August 8, 2017; 900mg August 23, 2017  Tested on July 13, 2018  .60 mmol/L result.  Normal range is .60-1.00 mmol/L

Took doxylamine sporadically (between 12mg and 25mg).  Last taken on July 5, 2018.  Don’t plan on continuing to take.

I was given a 500mg dose of Levaquin for a UTI (ended up not having a UTI).   Only one dose, but wreaked havoc on me.   Is it still affecting me?

No. Nowhere online is likely to prescribe benzos.

Very unlikely, planifolia.

This psychiatrist in London, Ontario, Canada, has written a sympathetic article about tapering and withdrawal:

Hi all,

I have what may be some very positive and exciting news for U.K. members. Today I went to London and met a new psychiatrist who I found online. I could tell from her biography that she did not see medication as the key to solving emotional symptoms.

She was like a breath of fresh air compared to my GP and recent psychiatrist. She really listened to my medical history and lifestyle. She asked deep and important questions about my values, my relationships, what stresses me out etc. Lastly, she agreed I appear to have an adverse reaction to Escitalopram and despite not having done it before, she wrote me a private script for compounded liquid. She said she regularly prescribes the NHS available SSRI liquids to patients.

Although she wasn’t totally in line with everything we encourage here (10% drops per month for example), she definitely valued the importance of tapering as slowly as required by a patient and she was totally non-pressuring in regards to how quickly I should taper. She was very flexible and valued the importance of working as a doctor-patient team, rather playing a dictator role.

The only downside is that without medical insurance she is very expensive to see as she works privately on Harley Street. My first consultation set met me back a smooth £500, but she respected I’m self funded and noted that I do not have to see her on fixed intervals and can email her briefly outside of appointments, without worrying about payment. She also noted I can see her in future using Skype and follow-ups are cheaper.

Her name is Dr Nagore Benito. I told her about this site and she said it was ok to put her details here.

I am in no way affiliated with Dr Benito and will of course update this if I have any issues with treatment in the future. In the meantime I’m very happy to finally have somebody who listens.

Hello, everyone, thanks for your suggestions and posts about your experiences with listed clinicians and tapering off psychiatric drugs.

I have to chase down every mention of a doctor here, which is very time-consuming and why I haven't updated this topic for a while.

Let's work together on this: If you're posting a recommendation here, please also post contact information for the practitioner and, if possible, a link to information about the person.

I personally appreciate you're doing the extra work on this. Thank you.

I called the office of Paul Abramsom MD today seeking help with slow taper of gabapentin (since my current psychiatrist refuses to call in rxs to compounding pharmacy and also isn't very available).

The receptionist took my info and will ask the MD, but warned me up front the MD is "aggressive with his tapers." 😡

I'm waiting for a call back to see if another provider at the same location will accept me, however, he is the medical director of this practice, so I feel unsafe going there hearing those words. Maybe he's different with antidepressants? I did tell the receptionist that I'm med sensitive and developed problems going off too quickly, but I bet that gets translated into "addict."

I have tried to contact Dr Yolanda Lucire, but she is currently unable to take patients as her practice has been suspended by authorities. This is due to a suicide incidence last year.

Thanks Ryder.  This person needs counseling and could use a good therapist which is very hard to find.  I threw in the doctor since the one they are seeing started Sertraline. :(

Hi, everybody. I’m wondering if anybody has had success finding a psychiatrist in the greater Houston area who recognizes the possibility of withdrawal syndrome and treats struggling patients like us with this in mind. In searching though these threads I didn’t find anybody that was recommended here in Houston.

I would very greatly appreciate any recommendations. Thank you!

ANTI-DEPRESSANTS (approximates):

2000--2009/10. Zoloft, mid-high dosage. Alprazolam, as needed, rarely.

2009/10--2016/17. Cymbalta, 90 mg

Early 2017--Mid-2017. Cymbalta, 60 mg

Mid-2017--Jan 2018. Cymbalta, 30--60 mg, reduced in 30 mg increments w/o physical w/d symptoms, possibly some emotional w/d symptoms. Mar 2018--Early 2019. Back on Cymbalta, fluctuating dosages from 30 to 90mg. Reduced from 60 to 30, then from 30 to 0 again, this time WITH very light physical w/d symptoms. Back to 30mg. Early 2019--April 2019. Cymbalta, 30mg. Down from 30 to 0. Physical w/d symptoms again. Back to 30mg. May 2019. Cymbalta 30 mg. Down to 20 mid-month. Started taking every other day in final week of the month.

Jun 2019. Cymbalta 10-ish mg. Started “eyeballing” about half of the beads in the capsule. Taking every other day, then at mid-month every 4 days.

July 2, 2019. Took last dose of “eyeballed” 5-ish mg. July 24, 2019. Took first reinstatement dose of 2mg. Dropped down to 1mg (6 beads) the very next day.

Aug 6, 2019. Up-dose to 1.33 mg. Aug 30, 2019. Up-dose to 1.5 mg.

SUPPLEMENTS

Vitamin D3 4,000 IU/day

I have been trouble having finding Dr Kelly'S phone number, she isn't at the numbers I tried. Do you know if her middle initial is a? I would appreciate her phone number and address. I thank you. I have her faculty number, (if she is the right Dr Kelly)- but can't find her office number.

Dr Kelly has been extremely supportive. She is respectful and compassionate. I've been seeing her for about a year and a half now. From the beginning she stated that I should probably not have been medicated at 15 and that Cymbalta was a. not doing anything for me and b. probable that it was causing adverse side effects. This was before I was diagnosed with an untreated neck injury that was complicating symptoms. After finding out about my neck, she agreed to hold off on coming off until the issues with my neck improved and started stabilizing. She recommended the initial taper that was too fast. She was prompt in responding to my phone calls addressing the severe withdrawals I was having (even on weekends). She advised me to stop tapering immediately and hold tight while she made some phone calls. Within a few days she had spoken to colleagues and also called Eli Lilly to figure out what was going on and a plan for what to do next. Even though she said she had never been aware of a patient with such severe withdrawals on the taper we were doing, she stated repeatedly that she absolutely believed me. This was the first time any professional has ever properly diagnosed this for me (hence me being on for 17 years even after several attempts to come off).

She repeatedly informed me that no, these were not returning symptoms but were indeed withdrawal. She also stated that no, these symtpoms were not justification for why I needed to be on Cymbalta. She also has told me that these withdrawals mean that it's going to be harder for me to think clearly, and offers support and reminders when I've been feeling at the end of my rope. She has stated multiple times that she thinks it very possible that I do not need to be on medication and is fully supportive of coming off and in fact is recommending that.

After doing more research than I've ever been aware of any psych doing for me as a patient, she recommended the 10% of current dose decrease. She even spoke with a mathematician about how to devise a system using graph paper for all the beads.

I will say that she has prescribed and suggested benzodiazepines while tapering but at this point I have told her no.

I am still in close contact with her, and she tells me that it is possible to be off, but to hang in there as it will take time. She asks for updates and info on what methods I'm finding work. She also recommends and is supportive of holding on the dose until my system has stabilized before decreasing again.

I have to say that I am uncomfortable with having her name and location connected with my account, but I hope that someone will be able to find the information useful. I'm still so aware of stigmas and misinformation of the general public when it comes to antidepressants. Even though so many of us are on them!

Dr Kelly sounds like a wonderful doctor.

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but i thought someone might benefit from it. I have been looking at alternative ways of dealing with depression and anxiety and i have started to believe it has some credibility so here is a link to traditional chinese medicine.

https://europepmc.org/article/PMC/4790408#id243190

Feb 2018 - April 2019 - On 25mg Paxil (12.5 mg in the morning and 12.5 mg at night) and clonezepam (0.25 mg at night as and when needed)

In April had a break from both for 15 days due to surgery

End of April - Sept 2019 - Was able to gradually stop both Paxil and Clonezepam

Oct 2019 - Jan 2020 - Had the best days and was not taking any of the above two (started to take supplements as listed in the post)

End of Jan 2020 - Severe anxiety kicked in and a really bad insomnia ( for the last two months have only been able to sleep for 2 hours continous, wake up night and start to walk around and vocalizations seem to be getting worse)

Some of the things he says does make sense and some is even proven to help by mainstream science but some of it is just wrong or reflects a poor understanding of the topic and some of it is just ridiculous by any standard. The supplements recommended on SA (e.g. fish oil, magnesium, D3 but watch out for hypersensitivity) are pretty much all anyone needs as far as supplementation goes. Many of the "natural treatments" on the website should be held to the same standard as drugs and make no mistake about it just because they are natural and often found in the same list as actual supplements like magnesium and omega-3s. You would not believe how many compounds pharmaceutical companies come up that don't go far into trials because it turns out they cause cancer or something.

Dx: complex PTSD

Discontinuation/taper history: sertraline, trazodone, prazosin, mirtazapine, diazepam

Took 200mg quetiapine for 0.5 years and 150mg for 1.5 years until 01/2020. Now microtapering daily at an overall rate of 12.5mg/month.

I'm very sorry and don't seem to be rude. However it doesn't seem very scientific as the above have pointed out and to me he's more like he's mixing concoctions. Very weary of the view that he provides brain balancing chemicals. Hmmm. More of the same imbalance theory.

Good news.....

After years of research and money spent, I have found the natural cure for most of the diseases including chronic depression, anxiety, chronic stress, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, some forms of cancer, auto-immune diseases, just to name a few. And this treatment will aid in our  drug tapering process with minimum or no withdrawal symptoms.

But this treatment requires significant diet and lifestyle changes which can be difficult. Two of my friends are already cured from severe anxiety drugs with no withdrawal symptoms. I am also not having any withdrawal symptoms. I can post here his email if anyone needs it.
