Hi Andy

You've clearly had some ups and downs of late but you seem to roll well with the punches as they say. Good on you. My insomnia is my most significant marker too. Reading your thread, if the last cut was the worst you've had, might it be time for a longer hold? This gives you a break and your body more time to stabilise.

Just a thought

Wishing you well

Please note - I am not a medical practitioner and I do not give medical advice. I offer an opinion based on my own experiences, reading and discussion with others. On Effexor for 2 months at the start of 2005. Had extreme insomnia as an adverse reaction. Changed to mirtazapine. Have been trying to get off since mid 2008 with numerous failures including CTs and slow (but not slow enough tapers)Have slow tapered at 10 per cent or less for years. I have liquid mirtazapine made at a compounding chemist.

Was on 1.6 ml as at 19 March 2014.

Dropped to 1.5 ml 7 June 2014. Dropped to 1.4 in about September.

Dropped to 1.3 on 20 December 2014. Dropped to 1.2 in mid Jan 2015.

Dropped to 1 ml in late Feb 2015. I think my old medication had run out of puff so I tried 1ml when I got the new stuff and it seems to be going ok. Sleep has been good over the last week (as of 13/3/15).

Dropped to 1/2 ml 14/11/15 Fatigue still there as are memory and cognition problems. Sleep is patchy but liveable compared to what it has been in the past.

I want to post something positive but im the grips of a very bad spell of insomnia.I have been quite ill the last few weeks with a very bad bladder infection and suspected kidney stone. One lot of antibiotics did nothing so the doctor changed me to a much stronger one that seems to be working. The last few nights I have only slept till 4am last night 3am and was up wide awake the rest of the night.I am not sure if the antibiotics are waking me ,when I wake I am dripping with sweat which isnt normal

I am totally off Zyprexa now as it interacts with my antibiotics.my last dose of 1.25mg was Monday

Somehow my mood and anxiety still feels better off the drug and i have more energy ,I just wish I could crack this sleep problem last night I nearly cracked and decided to go back on the zyprexa

Please god give me the strength to push through this, how I am holding down a job and being a father to a three year old is anybodys guess

2012 put on Citalopram and diazepam for 3 months for "depression" after filling in a 3 minute form at the doctors, had a massive reaction with panic attacks and extreme anxiety, never suffered panic attacks or anxiety before citalopram.Told to quit cold turkey which led to two hospital admissions during 2012/2013

December for 6 months Seroquel dosage adjusted up and down 50mg ,150mg ,100mg, caused severe tinnitus ,told to quit cold turkey

2013 January for 12 months Lorazapam given to me like sweets, told to quit cold turkey

2013 May Zoloft for 6 months ,told to quit cold turkey, reinstated 50mg tapered 2nd time over a month (to fast but I survived)messed up my sleep

Zyprexa April 2103 5mg until august 2014 ,dropped by doctor down to 2.5mg for one month went well but sleep was very poor for 3 weeks

End of 2015 I had to reinstate back up to 5mg due to constant insomnia that wouldnt go away Started a slow taper and found an understanding doctor who listened to me while I reduced

Hi Andy

When do you take the ZMA? It's the B6 I'm wondering about. Many people are sensitive to b vitamins in withdrawal and they can be activating

since ive been on the antibiotics (ciproflaxcin) ive stopped all supplements ,but i did take it just before bed as per the instructions

I think these antibiotics are having some effect in keeping me awake they are very strong ,ive only got two days left of them so I will just have to hang in there

Im drinking as much water as i can to flush my system out

My wife upset me this morning and ive lost all confidence in my sleep which is a slippery slope for me.Each time ive ended up in hospital its been from long periods of  insomnia

Hi Andy, sorry it is so tough. Coprocessor is famous for causing psych problems and certainly stopping Zyprexa is. So just remember you are responding normally to a double whammy and it will be over soon.

I take innositol both at bedtime and in the middle of the night when I wake up. I am not sure that's a good idea, but I figure it's better than more benzo. There are reports on the web of using up to 18 grams/day. Again, I am not advising this, but I am advising you to think creatively between meditative breathing sessions (that was not a joke :). I think in a week you will feel much better.

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

You have one more dose of Cipro left?

Are you planning to resume your Zyprexa taper or just stay off? I think that is a very high dose to jump from, but I don't know what dose would be best after a pause. Maybe Alto can help.

I don't doubt for a moment you were hallucinating. Even with no infection or Cipro or total insomnia I was seeing things when I was coming off.

Try to get some Greek yogurt for your gut if you can.

A massive hug coming from across the Pond. I know this is excruciating, but you can do it...just a little while longer.

I think it is a great idea to take whatever dose will allow you, your job, and your marriage to stabilize. But you don't have the same nervous system that you used to have.

I jumped at 0.6mg and tried to reinstate 0.2mg three months later. It was way, way over sedating. If I took 2.5mg now I don't know if I would keep breathing. You've been off two weeks? It might be best to let Alto help you find a generous, yet safe, dose.

I know times are hard right now, but you will make it, my Zyprexa experience is just a bad memory now (apart from the weight I am slowly losing).

Were you relatively stable on 1.25? If so I would not jump back up to 2.5.

I'd try a low dose. Like . 5 if possible and work up from there.

I really hope you find peace and rest soon.

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

Cipro and similar antibiotics are notorious for increasing symptoms of people already in withdrawal, so I've no doubt this is what's caused your current wave.  But from what I've learned, these increased symptoms settle down again fairly quickly.  If you're not already taking probiotics, you might want to start now.  I hope you feel better soon.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

05/10/14: Joined this site.

05/11/14: Reinstated approx. 25 mg Wellbutrin (1x day)

Hi Andy

Very glad to hear things have turned for you. Insomnia is 100 percent torture. I hope your boss (and others) are being supportive.

Get as much sleep as you can to make up your sleep debt.

Take care

DRUG FREE - as at 1st May 2017

Time for an update ,to take my mind away from anxiety and depression I decided to cut myself off from forums for a while and it helped a lot

After several painful failed attempts to withdraw I had to reinstate to 5mg and get my self together again, frustrating but necessary.

I am now down to 1/4 of a 2.5mg pill which took me around 10 months, the hardest part was getting from 5mg to 2.5mg I had terrible migraines for months and the usual insomnia ,the one thing that caught me out by surprise was the deep depression that followed.

Anyhow I am where I am and nearly there ,sleep is still a problem but somehow I've learnt how to deal with it and it doesn't spiral me into anxiety anymore. Some nights now I sleep well so I mustn't complain.

So when do I jump off the last 1/4 of a pill I keep asking myself, somehow mentally the last hurdle is the one that scares me the most but at some point I've got to jump.

I hope everybody who gave me support on here is finding some peace, time and patience heals you will all get there in the end.I learnt the hard way not to rush, good things come to those who wait

God bless you all
