I wonder how Faith is now.

CD off meds in July 2015, not on any medication since. Went through WD nightmare, now dealing with normal anxiety, but decided not to leave this forum yet because I want to support and give hope to others. ♡

Hi faith ,    a quarter of a tablet is a big amount.  Next time you're ready to try a decrease , maybe

cut half of that?

Praying for you that the twitching has passed , and you can enjoy some peace.

1987-1997 pertofran , prothiaden , Prozac 1997-2002 Zoloft 2002-2004 effexor 2004-2010 Lexapro 40mg

2010-2012Cymbalta 120mg

Sept. 2012 -decreased 90mg in 6months. Care taken over by Dr Lucire in March 2013 , decreased last 30mg at 2mg per week over 3 months. July 21 , 2013- last dose of Cymbalta

Protracted withdrawal syndrome kicked in badly Jan.2014 Unrelenting akathisia until May 2014. Voluntary hosp. admission. Cocktail of Seroquel, Ativan and mirtazapine and I was well enough to go home after 14 days. Stopped all hosp. meds in next few months.

July 2014 felt v.depressed - couldn't stop crying. Started pristiq 50mg. Felt improvement within days and continued to improve, so stayed on 50mg for 8 months.

Began taper 28 Feb. 2015. Pristiq 50mg down to 45mg. Had one month of w/d symptoms. Started CES therapy in March. No w/d symptoms down to 30mg.

October 2015 , taking 25mg Pristiq. Capsules compounded with slow-release additive.

March 2016 , 21mg

Fresh, Alto has suggested in earlier comments that a rapid taper is probably appropriate here considering the number of meds she's taking.

1/4 cuts are fine at this stage of the game - based on previous suggestions and considering that little has changed since that time.

Hi faith, many people asking about you, wondering how you've been.

Hugs cxx

2000 - sertraline for job anxiety low confidence (17 years old) ..which turned the next 16 years into nightmare!

On/off sertraline severe withdrawals every time. 2014 - felt better as reduced dose of sertraline no more inner restlessness. Doctor rushed off again. Hit severe withdrawal. Lost the little I had in life. Couldn't get stable again on 12.5mg. Was switched to prozac. Had severe reaction to prozac..came off in November 2015 at 6mg as felt more confused and damaged on it..Even more withdrawal ..rage, depression, dyphoria, near constant suicidal ideation, self harm impulses, doom, concrete block in head, unable to do much of anything with this feeling in head..went back on 6mg of sertraline to see if would alleviate anything. It didn't..reduced from December to June 2016 came off at 2.5mg sertraline as was hospitalised for the severe rage, suicidal impulses, and put on 50mg lofepramine which in 2nd week reduced all symptoms but gave insomnia which still have..psych stopped lofepramine cold turkey..no increased withdrawal symptoms new symptoms from lofepramine except persistant insomnia which has as side effect.

Taking Ativan for 8 months for the severe rage self harm impulses 1-3 times a week (mostly 2 times a week) at .5mg. Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

Nightmare that could have been avoided!

Decreasing by 1/4 tablet  may have been fine in theory , but apparently it was not fine in practice

. . . . it caused enough discomfort that Faith couldn't tolerate it.

I know you've been directed there before Faith , but you might need to look at making a liquid to decrease

the trazodone by a smaller amount.

Maybe it is time to hold for a few wks and do other things to feel better like relaxation videos ect.  You can always ask the doc for a lower dose of the drug so they are easier for you to taper.

Wishing you peace Faith

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

I just wanted to say Hello, Faith, and I am sorry you're having a tough time.  My thoughts are with you :-)

SG

Started ADs back around 1995 after bad break-up, starting with Prozac.  Switched to Wellbutrin, and then to Effexor in 2002
Effexor XR 2002-2014 up to 225 mg at one point, down to 37.5 mg towards end but back up to 75 mg in 2014; now realize I had W/D as I dropped down, memory very poor about history.  Extreme emotions, poor concentration as I stepped back down, didn't connect the dots!
Summer 2014 reduced to 0 very quickly, was sick of anhedonia/sexual dysfunction due to meds, depression never controlled if not worse. Didn't recognize WD since symptoms built slowly (thought I had ADD! and menopausal on top of it), starting with severe sweats, very bad cog-fog and memory issues, culminating in weight loss, severe anxiety and depression, panic, severe apathy and insomnia by eight months off.  Saw p-doc who put me on Remeron, increased from 7.5 mg/day to 37.5 mg by May 22, 2015; still doing very badly though able to sleep.

June 1. 2015 Reinstated Effexor XR 37.5 mg, Remeron dropped to 30 mg PM. Immediate relief of symptoms, like nothing had ever happened!  Joined SA and began on advice of friend who recognized it was WD all along! Began tapering in July 2015.

Been tapering both meds ever since, focusing on one more than the other or doing no more than 5% of each per month.

12 mg Effexor and 5.8 mg Remeron (mirtazapine SolTabs to make a solution with OraPlus) as of 5/4/2017

Update 3/14/18: 2.9 mg Remeron and 6 mg Effexor; 6/10/18:  2.6 mg Remeron and 4.9 mg Effexor

Dear Alig and everybody supporting me,

I have had maybe some moments where I could so so hardly fake the total chaos in my mind...so I (do not remember doing it) rook some Christmas pictures with my family, two biys and husband....but it was like a miracle sent from God for me ti be able to do that, to set a nice table (very very simple but I did it!).....but with me not being aware of the event, very disturbed, however for those moments probably my children where happier....then all went extremely bad.....

Hello Faith. Happy New Year. It is a new year and I believe you can decide to make it better than the last. I have huge sympathy for your plight and while I cannot claim any special expertise , many others who have contributed here clearly know way more than I do about all this, I think you must recognise that the consistent message is that we all believe you are taking way too many drugs and they are making you unwell!

You have a husband and children who clearly love you dearly, it cannot be easy for them to see you feeling this way, and I am positive that they would be incredibly happy to help you get better. Your doctors it seems to me have made some dubious decisions regarding your drug regimen but perhaps they stuck in a reactive response mode to your instability and changing symptoms.

As Altostrata has said, the decision to get better has to come from you! And if you believe the advice that so many here have tried to give you , you need to have a serious plan to taper off many of the drugs you are taking. And it seems probable to me that you are not in the best place to make that plan yourself! But if you decide it and state it firmly and calmly to your husband and to your doctors I think they will help you. Has your husband read this thread or others on this site? Ask him to do so !! He is maybe in a stronger position than you are to seek opinion and advice here and to advocate on your behalf to the doctors to come up with a rational gradual tapering plan. ( not replacing one drug with another ) There is no overnight solution to this as everybody here will attest. It's a series of slow deliberate steps . I really believe if you make that first huge one " I am going to get better " and be firm and consistent in your belief that that is going to mean less drugs not more , that you can find your way out of this into a better future! Do it for your family . Do it for yourself. Best wishes !

Hi Faith,

I agree with what Idecidedtolive has written above.  I had to make the decision that I was going to do something about how I was feeling.  It was not easy, but I thought about whether I was going to stay in the situation I was in, feeling miserable and probably not improving (and I will admit that my situation was very mild compared to yours), or do something about it with the possibility that I could feel better than I was.

After reading "I think you must recognise that the consistent message is that we all believe you are taking way too many drugs and they are making you unwell!" in the above post, I looked at your current drugs in your signature and it made me wonder if you are still taking all of those drugs.  If there has been any change in these, could you please update your signature?

Current meds:  Buspirone 20mg,Tegretol200mg,Trazadone 50 mg,Clonaz. 3mg,Escital.15mg,Propran.20mg,Bupropr.150mg,Baclofen30mg,Gabapentin200mg, taken 4 times/day in various comb.

After seeing all of the above I put them in the drug checker and shocked to find (if you are still taking all these) that there are 3 combinations that put you at risk of serotonin syndrome:

     Major        trazodone escitalopram

Using escitalopram together with traZODone can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

     Major        buspirone escitalopram

Using busPIRone together with escitalopram can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea

     Major        buspirone trazodone

Using busPIRone together with traZODone can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

And these 2 combinations have similar warnings:

     Major        bupropion escitalopram

Talk to your doctor before using buPROPion together with escitalopram. Combining these medications may increase the risk of seizures, which may occur rarely with either medication. In addition, buPROPion can increase the blood levels of escitalopram, which may increase other side effects.

     Major        bupropion trazodone

Talk to your doctor before using buPROPion together with traZODone. Combining these medications may increase the risk of seizures, which may occur rarely with either medication. In addition, buPROPion can increase the blood levels of traZODone, which may increase other side effects.

People here can offer advice and support.  The decision to do something about it has to come from you.  The sooner you make that decision the sooner you will on your way.  Maybe show the interactions to your husband.  Remember though, that you will need to taper slowly.

Take care, CC

Thank I did not get here alone other mothers in the same situation helped me along the way one stands out Norxforme she changed her name her to norx and has not been on this site much but she was on pp and effexor topix she shared her guts her own life story with her kids... how she survived dealt with her shrink ect. one old post of hers in on my mind how she kept her mouth shut with her doc and tapered without him knowing basically lying to him till she had enough pills to complete her taper... she had been there too with being redrugged when she tried to get help I think it happens to most of us that did not have the benefit of other peoples experience in the old days...

We all help each other that is how it goes and living for our kids I am sure has kept mothers alive thru the ages... it serves us all well kids and mothers.

They are watching for the slightest change for the smallest things we do not even realize ourselves and when we pull something off they stand and cheer... they really are standing and cheering when they look in our our eyes and connect with the real us... inside they are standing and cheering cause they don't know what  is going on and they don't care they just know what they need and want... on the inside it is to know we are ok.

For years I faked it best I could always tried to live up to the next bit of health the next bit of doing that would make me look ok in my kids eyes I tackled and won so many victories I was sure I could not do because the kid was sure I could do it... I stepped out I had to choice I had to... by hook or by crook one way or another inch by inch struggle by struggle... every inch is hard won ground and we all know there are back sliding days we cannot stop against our will they come... but one day one day a bit of light will come... just  a bit and just like our kids we are looking for it always and we will grab it with both hands and run... we will for them and for ourselves. Life should not be this hard struggles should not be this long and horrid but they are we just keep on keeping on... that is what mothers do best we can... whatever that means today...

I wish you all peace
