Thanks. I’ll do a bit more research on this site. I assumed most folk went straight onto default dose? (1000 in UK)

You know Snorky even if you don’t see an improvement straight away, as long as it doesn’t   increase  your symptoms too much, keep  taking it. I’m convinced the fish oil will help to heal the brain. Take the fish oil before bed, so your body uses it rather than  metabolises   it..

Epsom salt baths are really good as well. But again introduce them little by little.

Trying to manage the symptoms is a big step forward from the initial shock that brings on the panic and confusion.

You’re doing ok just take everything slowly and if the panic comes on again,  try to focus on alleviating just that.

I now try to accept I can’t make any educated decision when in panic mode. The panic mode just has to be nurtured like everything else,  until it subsided.

Well done you’ll get through this. Keep reading Rosetta’s post. I do when the going is tough. Take care K🧡

Hi K

Would you take the full 1000mg fish oil straight away?

Hi

Believe me, I’m really trying to be positive, accept and distract myself. No matter how many times I say it’s WD, symptoms are normal and they’ll ease”, they never do. (Particularly the unbearable depression sensations) Just deteriorate.

Thanks

Take it gradually so you know you can tolerate it.

Snorky I know how hard it is but try and find some positives in the day that you can be grateful for. Warmth, good weather,  food, support. Try not to focus on the symptoms yes they are there and they are not going away yet but the more you focus on them the more they are placed in the forefront of your mind and therefore are more likely to consume you.  Whatever you can be grateful for, no mater how small. At this stage in WD I wrote down  3 gratitudes every single night and tried to focus on them before sleep if I went to sleep.

Snorky Im afraid they don’t disappear immediately it happens over time. Remember this is a really challenging time for you and it may be that over the weekends in between your working week you just focus on self care as if you have the flu. Rest as much as you can, eat well, and lots of distractions. Many members go for walks, read and watch television. Anything to distract you. You will have whole days/weeks/ months even ruined with withdrawal symptoms sadly we have all had to face this.  I liken it to a broken limb sometimes really it’s a broken brain.

Today I couldn’t do much because of my broken brain.

You’ll get there slowly.  do remember you are slowly healing all the time, you just can’t see it yet, but you will and it will get better.

Take care K

Snorky, I can confirm what Katy said.  It took me three years to go through WD and its effects and begin to feel "normal" again.  I thought I'd lost those years.  But looking back, even at its worst, I had good days and I've chosen to hang onto those memories rather than the dark times.

Thanks both. V grateful to both of you as you’ve been so supportive to me.

I wish I’d bought the liquid fish oil so I could adjust the amount. Looking at info on here, folk also start with a lot less than the 250mg magnesium I bought.

Hi @Snorky

Alto has said mag. oxide isn't as effective as mag. citrate or mag. glycinate.

and it's better to take several small doses a day than a lot at once.

hope this helps..good luck to you.

@direstraits  My doctor recommended the mag glycinate for my inflammation issues too.

Guess I should look into it since it's the one I see most recommended for WD  Too!

Yet another disastrous night.

Insomnia kicks in about 4.

Pressure/pins and needles sensations in head and legs make it impossible to get back to sleep.

Recurring thoughts about these symptoms and the awful depressive episode yesterday. Also terrible restlessness-checking clock every five minutes.

V difficult to hold the positive approach together now.

Stay positive- hard when symptoms, particularly depression, increasing. In last month have been to about a dozen potentially great “distractions”. (Family trips, safari park, train rides, soccer matches, restaurants. Total enjoyment nil. Think I should also elaborate on the depression episodes. It’s not just low mood/listlessness. It comes with a palpable gnawing sensation, where every though hurts. Not sure if that makes sense. Also not sure if confusing depression and anxiety again.

Accept-not sure anyone would/could accept the bombardment of depression and nerve pain symptoms.

Distract-see above.

Reinstate ven 37.5mg? Back to where I was last week.

Sorry to burden everyone again. Such a low ebb at the moment. I bought my supplements yesterday, but now having to question amounts and whether I have right type of magnesium.

God bless and look after you all.

Recurring thoughts about these symptoms and the awful depressive episode yesterday. Also terrible restlessness-checking clock every five minutes.

Hi Snorky

I think the statement above is the key to your problems.  Recurring thoughts about your symptoms.  When I was a kid, I broke my left arm badly.  It took a long time to heal and I was in a series of the old-fashioned plaster casts for months.  But I didn't re-break my arm every day--it was the same injury healing over a very long arc.  Ruminating over the same symptoms day after day only gives them more power, and legitimizes the feeling you are the only one who feels like this.  You are on the right track by continuing to do normal activities even if you find no relief right now.  As others have said, the symptoms aren't forever and will diminish given time and commitment, especially if you find other things to occupy your mind.

Good morning M

Thank you as ever. I’ve already pleaded guilty to the recurring thoughts. However, they were particularly bad last night. I know I can “control” the thoughts, not the symptoms etc. It’s just that the thoughts would be easier to control if the symptoms were abating just a tad. Unfortunately, I’m not seeing that now.

Depression-have looked at lots of intros now.  There are refs to doom clouds etc, but I can’t help thinking that anxiety is the main WD symptom for most. I’m just not finding experiences comparable to my depressive sensations. I know “we’re all different “, but would be good to know when these kick in, how long they last, how they overlap with anxiety etc etc.

Still have to figure out what supplements to take, in what order, which dose etc😡😡

Thanks

Don't try to "control" your thoughts.  That just adds to the stress.  They'll come whether you want them to or not, at least until they don't.  What you can do is choose is how to react to them.  Accept them as what they are--thoughts.  They aren't facts and they're not life sentences.  They will pass if you let them.  Try saying to yourself "Crap, another catastrophic thought.  It sucks but means nothing. I'll get through it just like I did before."

To me, they're two sides of the same coin.  I'm thinking of Claire Weeks' approach of "floating" through your thoughts, feelings and symptoms.

Thanks. Saw that, but tablets are 250mg in UK, and Magnesium Oxide seems to be the only variety available in the UK.

Hey snorky, you can log onto Lamberts online or Nature's Best website...you'll find different forms of magnesium there :)

January 2008 to April 2015 Citalopram 20mg to 5mg, reducing in 50 per cent leaps. Jumped off at 5mg

March 2016 used MDMA triggered setback

April 2016 Citalopram 10mg October 2016 cut to 5mg, May 2017 cut to 2.5mg

May 2018 used MDMA triggered setback

June 2018 Citalopram 2.5mg up to 10mg, then back to 5mg

July/ August 2018 7.5mg, then 10mg

June 2019 updosed to 20mg Citalopram

August 2019 cold switch to Venlafaxine 75mg XR

Supplements; 1100mg fish oil daily; also 100mg Magnesium Glycinate. Tried Vagifem 10mcg from mid May 2021 to mid June 2021; caused depression, so stopped.

No, the glycinate form is a bit tricky to find. I've just gone for the citrate form...but I know glycinate form is recommended. I'm just making do.

Update

Worst night ever. Woke at 3am with usual insomnia caused by head tension etc. However, distinct change. Head tension more like permanent numb feeling. impossible to sleep through. Also accompanied by awful restlessness and depression type sensations. Not just impossible to sleep, but impossible to rest at all. Like brain will resist any attempt to relax/rest.

Have others gone through anything like this? (Ignoring stomach churning today, bit of a sideshow in circumstances)

Those capsules you found look ok to me!

They each have 100mg in them, so hopefully you open them to take out the right amount.

Message them to see if they are easy to open.

Alto recommends starting at 25mg to see how it goes.

If you start at 400 and have a reaction then it's hard to say if you cant take it at all or You just took too much in your weakened state.

As for the head numbness, yes I had that as well. It was like, the top of the inside of my brain was numb, or I could feel what was like bugs crawling.

It wasn't the front by my forehead, it was the top, but about half an inch down under the top of my skull.

I called it : "Hollow Head", lol.

It was like, weird, because you normally DON'T FEEL Your brain, but I was going from feeling bugs running across it to it being completely numb...

Like when Your arm falls asleep?  That feeling but in the area where the top of my brain should be.

I could feel the actual skull fine, if was underneath it.

It was weird, but I take it as a GOOD SIGN...

I take it as Our brains are re wiring and waking up after either months or years of being "sedated"...

Because that's what most of these drugs are, a form of "Chemical Lobotomy"...

Now Your brain is waking up out of hibernation and its learning to rewire correctly all over again.

I suppose I had it on and off for 3 months..

The fact you recognized it was a lovely day means you still have the ability to appreciate beauty.  Concentrate on that.

Not forgetting awful restlessness, pain and shaking.

Last night woke at 3.30, 4.15, 5.30 and 6.15.

Supplements- I think I now know which magnesium to order and dosage to start with. However, I also have omega 3. These are 1000mg with 250mg EPA and DHA.

1. Should I introduce the fish oil or magnesium first?

2. Can I take the fish oil without cutting it?

Thank you.

Hi Snorky

I'm not an expert on supplements, but please heed the advice of the mods and others; your nervous system is already destabilized.  Piling magnesium and fish oil on top of that may not be the best choice right now.  If you do, do one at a time.
