It has calmed down for me but has not gone away completely not as bad as it once was.  At times I have thought it was gone but it wasn't and comes back.  I am not sure why.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

I hate it! I've heard Gaba helps, which some of us can tolerate and others not. Also, I want to get a weighted blanket. I believe it will help. I was thinking of getting a massage, but I'm not sure if it will be too much for my body to take. Will experiment. It's gotta be in the top 5 worst symptoms.

2005-Zoloft bad reaction.....2006-Lexepro......2012-Upped Lexepro.......2013-Upped Lexepro......2/2014- Attempted Taper Lexepro...2/2014- Updosed Lexepro.......3/2014-Ativan.....5/2014- CT switch from Lexpro to Effexor.....

5/2014-7/2014-Tapered Ativan from 1mg to .25mg.....6/2014-Bad reaction to Effexor........7/2014- Rapid taper Effexor every other day......7/5/2014- Off Effexor.......7/2014-12/2014 - Ativan .25mg.......12/25/2014 -Taper Ativan by 4% due to paradoxical reaction .24mg...11/18/2015-Taper Ativan 1% CURRENTLY ON: .2376mg Ativan taken in 6 .0396mg doses.

I would not say it is top 5 :) it seems harmless enough in itself other things for me were worse.

Hope the blanket helps.  peace

Only makes it to the top because it causes insomnia for me. during the day, I deal with it. Anything that contributes to insomnia for me is a biggy. Me too. I hope the blanket helps. We'll see.

What is with the twitching??! It happens to me too. Just started!! Does it eventually go away? I mean even if it waxes and wanes eventually, I would be happy. I can be completely relaxed in my mind, but my body is just not stopping. Magnesium helps me a bit. I find this most concerning when trying to sleep. :(

I have no idea where it comes from, I can be ok for a while with no jerks and then there is a period where they are every day.

It is most annoying when it is just as I am falling asleep because it waked me up and I cant go back to sleep. I have a hard time

with insomnia at the best of times and hate the little sleep I get being disrupted by stupid jerks or restless legs.

I think the magnesium helps, I just increased my dose a few days ago and haven't had any jerks since, so maybe it's helping,

only time will tell.  I fall asleep easier, within 2 hours these days, sometimes within an hour which is amazing but don't sleep more

that 2 hours in a stretch, it's not so bad if I can get 2 x 2 hour sleeps, plus a nap in the afternoon sometimes. It's much better than

the days and days of no sleep at all, that is a real pain!

Today I put together a little table, screwed the legs on all by myself  B) . Then my elderly neighbour called in for a cuppa which was

nice. I've been having weird dreams again, the sort that you aren't sure if it is real or a dream. I wake up and lie there for quite a while

wondering if I am asleep or not, I don't worry about it now, it's just another of those weird symptoms that come and go.

My taper is going well, I think I have hit on something with my ideas. I was taking 4 beads then opened a new pack and they were different.

The beads were larger and I felt overdosed and ill. I dropped to 3 which was actually about the same dose as the 4.

I tipped out a capsule into a plastic tub and every day I take the 3 largest beads.  This means that as time goes by they are getting smaller.

They vary in size and doing it this way means that my dose is more stable and is decreasing very very gradually. When this one is finished

I will open a new capsule and take 2 of the largest. I still have about another month left in this one and I am feeling quite stable as far as

withdrawal goes.  :)

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Ok, I think I screwed up the quote :( lol I'm still learning. Yes, I think the nerve twitching is related to electrolytes. Magnesium has been helpful to me. I'm so happy to hear your taper is going so well. That is fantastic. Yes, the sleep, oh how I miss my sleep. I used to steady around 9-10 hours. Now, who knows I don't look at the clock. It makes it worse, but I'm sleep deprived, I can feel it.

I'm looking into getting a weights blanket for sleep, I think it will help me as I am have always been a "sensory" person, and the weight makes me feel grounded I guess. We'll see. I also put aluminum foil on my windows. Thank God my neighbors don't know I'm "off my meds" and I'm standing on a stool taping aluminum up on my windows. I can only imagine what they would think. Lol haha I have to laugh. No one else understands this kind of humor!!!! I feel my laughing and crying these days is pretty closely connected, one turns suddenly into the other.

Anyways, I'm rambling. Glad you are well. I pray that you will continue to enjoy increasing health. ????

Glad you have the dose figured out and glad of new friends in the new area.  I found some stuff about what makes the dose of E time release it is a coating on the "beads"  I put it in a thread called read this before you make liquid E not a good title by any stretch of the imagination... I got confused...again.  Not sure if it interests you thought it might.

It's been a bad day today, I had my 3 year old grandson here for the day yesterday and he stayed for

a sleepover. It was a lovely day and he had me laughing at his antics all day We went out for lunch

and then came back and played. He slept well and was no trouble except for being so full of energy

and hard to keep up with. I had to call mummy to collect him this morning so I could go back to bed,

thankfully I slept for 2 hours!

I didn't sleep at all, not even an hour and he was up at 6am. So I have been exhausted. Did far too much

and as usual paying the price. It is so frustrating that I cant do what I want to do even if I feel up to it at

the time!

Hope I get some sleep tonight it's awful not sleeping at all for days on end but seems to be the way things

go for me with no apparent reason for it.

Mamma,

I'm sorry you didn't get any sleep. Seems like your patterns n waves change even daily? I would hate that. I think being around kids when doing this is great. They keep you so busy n entertained that you get the escape from your own head.

Wishing you many zzzz's tonight.

Was on antidepressants on and off from 2000-2007 dx with MDD n anxiety.

2009- had like a physical breakdown. Was exhausted n not functioning properly. Still have depression n had become suicidal. Shrink dx bipolar while I never had a single manic episode. I got at least 8-9 hours of sleep every night. I required that to function since a child. I was admitted to the psych ward immediately. Was then put on a cocktail.

Lithium, lamotrigine, wellbutrin, prozac, depakote, Xanax, trazadone and ritalin.

Went through over 50 shock treatments n put on Invega in addition

Spring 2014, made the decision to try to get off some meds.

11 weeks ago I qt quit invega

10/6 reinstated 150 mg of Wellbutrin

I currently take 40 mg of prozac, 300 mg of lamotrigine, 1 mg of Xanax, 150 mg of trazadone

I am down from three medications. The forementioned others that I was initially put on I stopped prior to 2014.

I am hoping to be med free one day. I do not have any intention of stopping the current ones right now. I'm going to give my body a little more time to adjust.

Progress not perfection!!

I have been on the same bad sleep path last wk sleeping only an hour or two for not apparent reason and catching an hour or two in the day today for some reason I had two 3 hours naps I can't figure out what causes this sleep issue out of the blue.  Still it is better than days and days of no sleep I just wish it wasn't this way.  Here's to the glory of a good nights sleep may we have one soon.

peace

Bad bad day today, the worst I've had in a while. Slept for 3 hours which is great but felt

like I havent slept for a week. Got up and had a bath hoping it would help then went back to bed.

Nausea, burning itching eyes and joint pain. can't keep my eyes open so drifted in ad out of sleep

and now it is 5pm. I realised thia morning that some gluten free breakfast biscuits I bought might be

the culprits. I started to feel very sick while eating them today and I've had heartburn and nausea for

a few days. We live and learn! Then again it could just be a wave but it feels like a reaction so will

blame the biscuits for now. The rest are in the bin and I am back to my low carb diet.

And now I am going to make vegetable soup from some left over veggies from yesterday, then go back

to bed. I do get these sleepy days but this seems different. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Keep up the veggie soup! I find that's a great way of getting things into you that you may not choose to eat on their own!

I eat it every day and what I love to do is make it completely from things I have grown myself, maybe just a few hours out of the ground.

As winter approaches that can be a challenge though as tomatoes ,courgettes etc die back.

Simon

. Been on some kind of meds since 1982,mainly on and off things like imipramine.,2000 on75mg venlafaxine til it bottomed out, then 150, also no good. about 7 years. Almost ct from it and put on cocktail of  Cit, Mirt and Lithium. Remained there for 7 years.

Tapered Citalopram in June2014 and was off in 6 weeks. Mood slumped about 6 weeks later. Found this site sept 5th and got some idea why this happens.18th Sept stopped lorezepam and due to misunderstanding with GP was without it for 36 hours which caused a crisis.

from 19thsept 18mg diazepam to replace lorezepam(possible addiction) 24th sept 12 mg diaz per day. 29th sept 10mg diaz per day and tapering at 1-2mg per week. At 5mg will slow down taper. At same time increase of mirtazapine to 45mg per day.

Taking fish oil and magnesium as suggested on this site.

Also have menieres syndrome, a cause of vertigo, vomiting and partial loss of hearing, also very occasional drop attacks.

Enjoy you soup and have a good sleep.  I find the same thing helpful... I so love it when I have home made stock frozen.  Soon I should make some and freeze it for the not so hot days.  Hope tomorrow it better.

Thanks everyone. I am feeling a bit better now but still not sleeping. I am helping my daughter with the

little ones so she can get things ready for moving house. It is nice to feel useful and takes my mind off things.

It is awful when you feel bad, live alone and can't do anything, and too sick to drive anywhere. I am staying here

for a few days so I am on hand but not doing too much. Hopefully this wave will be over in a few days, it seems to

be passing by and getting better thank goodness!

it must be so nice for your daughter and the little ones to have you with them. Glad the wave seems to be passing, mammaP.

1988-2012: Prozac @ 60mg (with a few stops and starts)

Fall 2012: Returned to 40mg after discontinuing and horrid withdrawal

Fall 2013: 40mg Fluoxetine, added 150mg Wellbutrin to treat fatigue

Winter 2014: Attempting to taper both (too fast)

April 2014: 9mg Fluoxetine + 37.5 Wellbutrin

Summer 2014: 8 mg Fluoxetine + 0 Wellbutrin (way too fast a drop)

Late summer/Early Fall 2014: Debilitating Withdrawal symptoms

Fall 2014 - Wellbutrin successfully kicked to the curb but…

Oct- Dec 2014: Panicked reinstatement of Fluoxetine ->30mg - held for 5yrs

Jan 2021: taper to 20mg Fluoxetine  then tapering by 1mg every 2-3 months

Fall 2022 - held at 10mg->December 2022: 9mg->Feb 2023: 8mg ->March 2023: brassmonkey slide begins: 7.8mg -> 7.6 -> 7.4->2 week hold (April)->7.2->7mg->6.8->2 week hold->6.6-> 1-month hold ->(June)-6.5->4-week hold-> (July)-6.4 (discontinued brassmonkey slide and slowed taper)-> (Aug)-6.2->(Sept)-6.0->(Oct)-5.9->(Nov)-5.8->(Dec)-5.7->wave!->(Jan)-5.8->(Feb)-6mg and holding.

Thanks BT and Addax. I cut tramadol last night by 5% , now at 90mg and felt much better this morning.

I even went to my meeting and went to a friends house for lunch. I usually don't get out until afternoon

because of the hangover from tramadol.  Hope it continues, my last cut (the first)  wasn't too bad just some

tummy trouble and needing the loo a lot!

Glad to here of the improvement hope it continues with future cuts.  I can't recall quitting it I took the E and it at the same time same as you.  That combination must have been suggested  by some article in a journal some place years gone by as I know a few people who took the same combination.  Flavor of the wk comes to mind like a marketer preparing his ads for the kids that wk.

I managed to get some washing done today, felt very proud of myself I did  :P .

How crazy is it when doing a load of washing is an achievement when it is sitting there in a pile

folded ready to be put away!

Then I attempted to fix my broken tablet (computer   ;) ) . Got my tool kit out and a youtube

tutorial. Spent an hour trying over and over then realised I had the wrong part so it ended up in the bin,

but I had a go, and what is more amazing is that I wanted to have a go  :D

Thinking of you mammaP!

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Feb 15 2010:  300 mg Neurontin  200 Lamictal   10 Celexa      0.65 Xanax   and 5 mg Ambien

I can't believe I am reporting this today and keep pinching myself! I actually slept for 5 whole hours

last night! I woke up once and fell straight back to sleep again.  The difference is incredible, and I've

cleaned the floor today! Washing yesterday and the floor today  :P

I was trying to think what is different and there are a few small things. I cut the tramadol, the effexor beads

are getting smaller, and I've been drinking pomegranate juice. I would be happy if I felt like this every day,

not great by any means but much better than the last few weeks/months. It's funny really that you don't

realise how bad you've been feeling until you feel better, if that makes sense  . If I sleep again tonight

I might even get the dusting done tomorrow and really achieve something  .

That's brilliant :)

2000 - sertraline for job anxiety low confidence (17 years old) ..which turned the next 16 years into nightmare!

On/off sertraline severe withdrawals every time. 2014 - felt better as reduced dose of sertraline no more inner restlessness. Doctor rushed off again. Hit severe withdrawal. Lost the little I had in life. Couldn't get stable again on 12.5mg. Was switched to prozac. Had severe reaction to prozac..came off in November 2015 at 6mg as felt more confused and damaged on it..Even more withdrawal ..rage, depression, dyphoria, near constant suicidal ideation, self harm impulses, doom, concrete block in head, unable to do much of anything with this feeling in head..went back on 6mg of sertraline to see if would alleviate anything. It didn't..reduced from December to June 2016 came off at 2.5mg sertraline as was hospitalised for the severe rage, suicidal impulses, and put on 50mg lofepramine which in 2nd week reduced all symptoms but gave insomnia which still have..psych stopped lofepramine cold turkey..no increased withdrawal symptoms new symptoms from lofepramine except persistant insomnia which has as side effect.

Taking Ativan for 8 months for the severe rage self harm impulses 1-3 times a week (mostly 2 times a week) at .5mg. Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

Nightmare that could have been avoided!

Thanks for giving your good news, mammaP, it's so good to hear! May it continue :)

Started citalopram May 12, from 10 to 40 mg/d over 2 months

Wanted to come off in May 13 and did it too quickly: decrease from 40 to 0 mg/d over 2 weeks; WD from then onwards, increasing in intensity to be unbearable at 4 weeks later;  reinstated 10 mg/d for 2 days (WD severity halved); reinstated 20 mg/d (initial WD symptoms decreased but not gone entirely until after 8 weeks)

Started 5--7% taper: Aug 13: 19 mg/d, mild WD on day 3; thereafter none notable; Nov 13: 18 mg/d, no WD; Dec 13: 17 mg/day, no WD for 3 weeks, then (at Christmas) tearfulness; Jan 14: 16.7 mg/d, Apr 14: 15.7 mg/d, Jun 14: 14.5 mg/d; Jul 14: 13.5 mg/d (6.9% reduction), Aug 14: 12.5 mg/d (7.4% reduction)

Hi MammaP,

Haven't been active much here on the board. Try to catch up on some friends here. Wish i had a solution to the insomnia problem. Searching for it. When i find it i will let you know!!

Read that you are having pomegranate juice. Pomegranate is an inhibitor of some liver metabolite pathways related to Effexor and tramadol (cyp2d6) and can cause an increase in blood serum of these drugs. You might want to look in to this a bit. Perhaps be careful with pomegranate? Grapefruit is also a juice bad with many meds(probably not with Effexor though).

Thanks for that Wulfgar, I've cut it down because it was giving me too much stomach acid ,

it is interesting how some 'superfood' can affect other things in ways you wouldn't imagine!

My good night's sleep was just the one night unfortunately. The next night I had my little grandsons

and was up with them through the night, both times I was woken up so I'm sure that if I had been

alone I might have had another night with some decent sleep. Oh and an alarm went off at 2.30am,

scared me witless and had to investigate. It turned out to be the phone that needed charging! That p

phone almost ended up through the window  ;)

I won't be in very much for a week or so, will be spending time with extended family, not sure if I am

looking forward to it or dreading it, probably a bit of both.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem)

1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat

2002  effexor.

Tapered  March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads.

Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013

Restarted taper  Nov 2013

OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015    :D

Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014

Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg

 July 2017 30mg.  May 15 2018 25mg

Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure.

My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

"Also of note, pomegranate juice contains phytochemical compounds that stimulate serotonin and estrogen receptors, improving symptoms of depression and increasing bone mass in lab animals.6"

I was thinking if the juice did help you sleep isolating what in it helped may be useful...

"

The pomegranate is a nutrient dense food source rich in phytochemical compounds. Pomegranates contain high levels of flavonoids and polyphenols, potent antioxidants"

maybe worth looking at
