The mind will never be able to cure the anxiety because it is causing it. You must shift your focus (attention) outside the mind.

Your brain has convinced you that you must think about it. But it’s your brain that created problem so it will never fix it.

That's a great quote from Mia about the thought-anxiety symptom loop we can accidentally create.

I have found the most important time NOT to think about a symptom is when your having it, as it revs up an emotional connection as well. When your having a window is the best time to look at things from a clinical detached fashion, like your a life coach helping someone else, and then those are the new thought patterns you force yourself to incorporate throughout the day and especially in a wave.

One really can get quite creative about the number of even seemingly nonsensical things to think about, as long as it's something OTHER than the symptom or wave.  When I learned I could over ride a wave and cut its length and intensity in half by FORCING my brain to think about analyzing all of the thread count of my sheets on all the different sets in the house, AND IT WORKED at taking me out of a wave, I knew then that the brain really can be retrained by what we put into it. That along was a HUGE extra stress relief as well, knowing you were empowered to change what was happening.  As soon as the next wave would hit I'd force my brain into some other nonsensical exercise and make it think this was now of utmost importance to survival, and it continued to work.

Once my brain decided categorizing the thread count of all my sheets was move important to survival than my symptom, it stopped powering the symptom and put all it's energy to the sheets.  Now, it seems like a stupid example, but the point is you really CAN distract yourself is you choose, the problem is we hardly ever recognize what we do think about all day to begin with.  That's the key issue. Retraining what we think about.

And this usually means investigating and coming to terms, to some extent, with the more existential, philosophical and spiritual questions that form the basis of so many of our beliefs systems that produce 75% of the thoughts of our brain that run on auto pilot all day long.

Glad your doing better!

As a side note, @PaquitaI love the "encourage mint" - so cute!  :)

Enjoy feeling good again, Cheeky!  💜

I talked too soon, had a great week felt back to normal then my periods came with my Pfizer vaccination and I’m back in a wave again. This is so disheartening

  • 1995 started Paxil 20mg slowly increasing to 50mg 2014 I decided to tapper myself not knowing how too and crashed , DR added 50mg of Seroquel

I'm so sorry you're in a wave again, you said you felt like you'd stabilised a bit recently. So that sucks. Thank you for checking in on me too by the way. It feels never ending this battle doesn't it? I'm glad we've all got each other - a lot of the time I don't think many people really understand what WD really is, and it can feel quite lonely trudging through it.

Your not on your own that’s for sure . We need to be here fir each other to make it through the hard days. I can’t believe I thought I was getting better now this ****. Windows 🪟 of freedom  waves 🌊 of hell they should call it.

Oh I am so sorry, Cheeky.  The fact that you had such a good week and felt normal means you will get there again.  However I know how disheartening it must feel to be back in a wave.....that really sucks.  I really hope this wave is short lived and you get back to where you were very very soon.  💖

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg; 3/29/24: 1.17 mg; 4/5/24: 1.14 mg; 4/13/24: 1.11 mg; 4/20/24: 1.09 mg

Ugh.. I was one of the supposed 10% who would go into a wave towards the end of the cycle.

If I was gonna get slammed it would be day 4...

So at the beginning, Every month it was like holding my breath to see if it would put me in a wave or not.

Interestingly, at least for me, I learned there was a connection between IF I was holding long enough between med drops and stable in my wd  and if my cycle would throw me in a tail spin.

If it did, I knew I wasn't near ready for another med drop.

The longer I held in between drops and if made smaller % cuts, the cycle wouldn't set me off.

It kinda became a helpful guide of sorts.

If I THOUGHT I was ready to drop and my cycle was within 2 weeks, I would hold and if it didn't throw me then I'd make another modest drop. But there were a few times I was about to drop again and I said: "Maybe I better wait till after the cycle, and "boom", took me down. Then I knew to hold another 6 weeks before dropping again.

Feel better.

That what has happened to me the last 4 periods I had, I should’ve realised it was withdrawal but just dismissed it as me getting older and maybe my hormones were changing. There was so many signs , I was just so busy working and dealing with the death of my nephew that I dismissed it all. It really is reading your body signs .

Thinking of you, Cheeky.  I had the awful period-wave conjunction, too.  Wouldn’t it be amazing if Colonial’s plan to hold until a period happens without a wave worked for you, too?

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/16629-rosetta-ct-may-2011-too-fast-taper-feb-2017/?page=25

2001-2011 Celexa 10 mg raised to 40 mg then 60 mg over this time period

May 2011 OB Doctor's Cold switch Celexa 60 mg to 10 mg Zoloft sertraline (baby born)

2012-2016 - Doctors raised dose of Zoloft up to 150 mg

2016 - Xanax prescribed - as needed - 0.5 mg about every 3 days (bad reaction)

2016 - Stopped Xanax

Late 2016- Began (too fast) taper of Zoloft

Early 2017 - Trazodone prescribed for bedtime (doseage unknown)

Feb 2017 - Completed taper/stopped Trazodone

Drug free since Feb 2017

2017 - Unisom otc very rarely for sleep

okay update....

yesterday I was feeling quite good, Im on day 5 for my period and today feeling anixious, slight buzzing in my feet and little head zaps. Im managing but feeling a bit tired of thinking I'm going to be okay then a setback returns. last night I was great, watching tv enjoying the moment. I zoomed with friends and felt normal. I can't stop feeling of jealously that my friends can live there life happily and I have to go through this . Why has God done this to me. Its very hard.

Still not great but better…still not at pre wave level yet….but is what it is….can’t do anything about it. All I know is that things will change as that is withdrawal it’s just a question what will happen next.

Yeah it’s like that, I’m not as bad as I was and have good days and then bad. There really is no pattern to this . Just sucks having to go through it.

Im going to wait til next year to start mine, I don't want to rock the boat.

Yep, the suffering we have to endure and not being acknowledged is the hardest thing. If only we could go back in time , I would’ve never of taken these drugs. I spent half my life tired all the time . The one good thing about coming to a lower dose is I  have more energy . I have so far to go but Im not going to give in to these drugs. I understand your frustration.

@Greatful have a look at this , it’s about how these drugs were sold at the beginning. It’s really interesting. A good website too. https://www.drugawareness.org/history-of-antidepressants-just-where-did-your-medication-come-from/?fbclid=IwAR0wLNVr31ZLjinOpHdUqB6rPNUToqXd1yIlPh8y3xFFH8wALpyKr7B2reg

Have you got your second dose of the vaccine yet?

How are you feeling?

40 yo Male. Started Paxil about 15 years ago. 10 mg (pill weight .125 - .129 g). 5 yrs wanted less side effects, doctor took me off Paxil over couple week period and put me on Wellbutrin. Not good. Went back on Paxil. Relieved my symptoms, but didn't work as well and more side effects. Severe reaction between Paxil and Zomig Summer of 2012. Head was affected during warmer days (cloudiness, confusion, pressure). Began 10% withdrawal 10/24/12.

Withdrawel helped many symptoms, but also added side effects: nausea, dizziness, tiredness. Hyper-anxiety started January 2014.

Went through a 2 year period of de-realization (2016-2018).  Rarely any windows.
Current dose: 0.00 as of 4/10/21.  Made a lot of progress in my withdrawal symptoms the last 2 years of my taper.  I think doing a liquid taper helped stabilize things on the lower doses.  A lot of my symptoms have reduced significantly.  Hoping for even more improvement now that I am off.

@Rusty1 yeah I’ve been doing good but when I had the first shot it brought a wave on for a few days so I’m really worried about the second shot. I have to get it done so will just see what happens. Thankfully I’ve had big windows, so that give me the strength to ride the waves.

I wouldnt be too worried. That is too bad it brought on a wave. But from what you said you got through it. So expect that after  a few days you will be back to WD normal.

Okay update……

Things have been going pretty good , I’m pretty much stable on most days but I do occasionally have small waves that aren’t too distressing. I will be going back to work in a couple of weeks as Sydney’s been in lockdown for 3 months , I have spent the first two months in terrible withdrawals and minor ones the last month. My sleep patterns have been all over the place, I’ve been going to bed late watching movies and getting up early and having a sleep during the day. I’m not eating well and have put in weight due to all the sugar cravings. I need to get into routine because I feel a wave coming on. I think sleep and eating well makes a big difference to my well-being. I think the stress of having to go back to work is causing my aniexty. I’m just ranting today, feeling a bit off🙁

A big hug, Cheeky! (((((((Cheeky)))))))

Yes, going back to work —anticipatory anxiety city!  But remember that it will not actually be as bad as you think, you will get in a groove once you are there, and it’s all going to be ok.

Anticipatory anxiety keeps me from doing what I need to do to make that dreaded day, whatever is scheduled for it, less hectic.  I have to keep that in mind and prepare ahead —what will I wear, what will I have for breakfast, what do I need to take with me, what’s for lunch, does the car have gas, etc.  Doing things to prepare, not the day before, but one thing a few days before, another 3 days before, and so on brings down the level of anxiety I feel for those few days!  It’s amazing how much the level is reduced.

Thinking of you! -R

Here we go again……………..

so things were looking up for me for a month and I was back to being the person I loved to be, the 1mg updose worked and got me out of the mini crash that occurred 3 months ago  but I’m not sure what’s happening now.  I feel like I’ve taken a step back and today I feel like I’m in a wave again. I woke up with aniexty and felt my hand slightly shake, no appetite and emotional, I know I’ve been worried about going back to work but can this worrying bring in a wave? When I’m like this I feel this is my permanent state and it scares me. I know too well that this is WD symptoms and not normal aniexty, at least I think so 🙃

I know I have been sensitive since my mini crash , but I have been feeling better the last month.

Im just confused 😐
