Barbarannamated
Thank you all. Having a rough day. I can't think to take action to make appointments. I'm frozen in my head and in my bed. I communicate typing on my mobile and people think that im functional, but im so nonfunctional. Why cant I make a phone call?? I freeze. I can communicate ok in person, but exceptionally difgicult to make a phone call. I feel like I can imagine what it's like to be in a coma, able to hear others but unable to communicate. I tell people "I cant THINK" and nobody understands. We were at RV park in Vegas. I tried several times to gather my things to go to bathhouse to shower: towel, clothes, shaver, etc. Could not do it. Did manage to put swimsuit on, wrap towel around me and get in pool. The cardiologist in hospital asked if I had been exposed to anything toxic. I said "YES, I have suspected that!" That line of questioning went no further. His job was done. My problem was not cardiac. I can't think forward and it's so scary. Administrator Karma Posted July 22, 2012 Administrator Share Posted July 22, 2012 Barb It is not unusual to be immobilized when the adrenals are struggling or when thyroid is not getting to your cells (we know the thyroid isn't getting to your cells). When I was suffering from adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidisim I would cringe when I had to make a phone call ... I just couldn't expend the energy to do it. If I managed to get through my work day and got home to discover I needed to run up the block to the pharmacy I wanted to cry because of the energy it took to run the errand. These can be classic symptoms of endocrine dysfunction. Now the trick is how do we get you to the endocrinologist to get some help? Could you ask hubby to schedule some appointments and help you get to them? I know he is dealing with his own dysfunction, but maybe since it is doctor-stuff he would help. Can you text or email someone who could schedule the appointments for you? Any friends, family or cousins within an hour or so of you that would help? Barb, I really think that if your Endocrinologist can figure out how to get the thyroid to your cells that the "freezing" will subside. Just know that what you are experiencing is not permanent and there are several potential treatments that can bring you back to a more full, rich life. You are in my thoughts, my friend. Barbarannamated
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Have appointment with endocrinologist and pain doc tomorrow. Have been so low and angry since cardiac hospitalization. Made it to Urgent Care yesterday for meds. They refused V (stim) which keeps my mind from going to ThatDarkPlaceWeDontTalkAbout (as Sparrow mentioned). My pdoc had me on 2x max daily dose of V and now I cant get any. Going to Urgent Cares is stressful! I'm ok. I have this really stubborn survival instinct. Communicated with old horse friend (actually young 30yo) who was just hospitalized with manic episode. Her pdoc is one of the ones who treated me badly. A touch of PTSD hearing her story, perhaps. Put her on lithium and Lamictal which, I was a tad relieved about. This doc used to put everyone on Seroquel, so lithium and Lamictal seem slightly less toxic. Also said they'd DC lithium asap due to thyroid effects. In addition, 2 unrelated friends told me they'd CTd their SSRI after hearing about my misdiagnoses/treatment. One has been taking Lexapro "as needed" or when she remembers and then Xanax for anxiety. NOOO!! The other is a therapist and DCd Prozac after several years on polypharmacy. I try to tell them, but of course their docs say SSRIs arent a problem. Sorry to be all over the place. Having angry day wih a helping of self pity while trying to save the world. Barbarannamated
Based on cortisol i was told (2), endocrinologist diagnosed adrenal failure/Addison's and Rx'd Cortef. I like this discussion: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/addisons-disease/530772-need-help-w-hydrocortisone-cortef-dosing-adrenal-insufficiency-addisons.html Also Dx Schmitt Syndrome, Raynauds.... autoimmune polyendocrine failure. Sparrow
All this, and you're still hanging tough. Your courage is truly inspiring to me, Barb. When's the MRI? Nikki
Barb you said these Dx's are related, basically the same thing (I think), adrenals not up to snuff? My understanding is that Addison's is treated with Prednisone and it is very effective. No that there is a diagnosis, will they prescribe anything to reverse the adrenals? Moderator Emeritus Skyler Posted July 24, 2012 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted July 24, 2012 Based on cortisol i was told (2), endocrinologist diagnosed adrenal failure/Addison's and Rx'd Cortef. I like this discussion: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/addisons-disease/530772-need-help-w-hydrocortisone-cortef-dosing-adrenal-insufficiency-addisons.html Also Dx Schmitt Syndrome, Raynauds.... autoimmune polyendocrine failure. Nothing too surprising; they all go together. MRI of brain ordered to look at vasculature and pituitary. Just one thing. I need just one positive thing in my life to look forward to or offset this crap. How much is the Cortef expected to help, were you given any indication. How does the equation change if there the pituitary is implicated? Positive.. .. hopefully you can get your life back. If the Addison's ( and whatever else) was enough to halve your pulse, can you imagine what the effect is on your emotions? Gosh, no wonder the speed script helped.~S As always, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! Administrator Karma Posted July 25, 2012 Administrator Share Posted July 25, 2012 Yay - a diagnosis and a treatment plan! I think Barb will notice that the cortef is working fairly rapidly. It is a stunning effect when the adrenals are supported after they have been struggling. It takes a while longer to fine tune the dosage sometimes, but when I experienced it the difference was amazing. I'll be staying tuned for progress updates ... I predict that we will see positive changes. [autocorrect tried to change your name to "Sparks" ] Your situation has struck me as so similar to mine, especially that bizarre NEED to lay down in very specific area. My mind/brain is absolutely locked up, frozen. Scary as hell. Can you tell me more about your endocrine/pituitary involvement? I have not gotten MRI yet. Began the Cortef yesterday and had bad palpitations last nite and jittery today. I don't know if that is Cortef-related, but I suspect so. My vision is also extremely bad - inability to focus, all sorts of floaters and clouds, diplopia. I know nearsightedness well and this is definitely not it or any usual eye stuff. Ive been in spectacles since I was 6, always the worst patient in any eye doc's practice with -10D vision, LASIX in late 90s. This is different. It really pisses me off when MDs tell me to go to my eye doc. Gee, I hadn't thought of that! Ive been worse since that hospital ordeal. My ability to handle any stress is nil. Learned yesterday that my old pdoc eas reprimanded for overprescribing stimulants. I guess SS/NRIs are still the go-to drug and "safe". I have mixed feelings about the medical board's legal action. I feel like im not making sense and cant follow threads anymore. Please excuse me if I post anything weird (ya know, more than usual). Thanks everyone. Youre my lifeline! Administrator Karma Posted July 27, 2012 Administrator Share Posted July 27, 2012 Did you join the Adrenal Group http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/messages? They might have some suggestions. If it were me, I believe that I might try half of my normal thyroid dose to see if I got the same effect ... What I've learned is that even on the inserts that come with Synthroid the provider is advised to ensure the adrenals are supported before adding thyroid treatment. What about vitamin B12? Adrenals love B vitamins. I'm not suggesting that you add vitamins at this time, but if you are very low in B12 that could be contributing to your symptoms. Another thing that helps support adrenals is Celtic Sea salt - I drink up to 2 teaspoons of celtic sea salt in my water during the day to support my adrenals. Usually people start with 1/2 a teaspoon. It has to be an unrefined, mineral rich sea salt and not table salt. I get my Celtic sea salt at Whole Foods or order it online from SelinaNaturally.com ... I get the light grey sea salt. This is why I think you might check in with the adrenal group, we could make suggestions, but they support thousands of patients and could ask good questions to help you get an idea of what is causing the undesirable symptoms. I'm just trying to help ... and I can tell you that the Adrenal Group has really been a life saver for me. Barbarannamated
Karma, I have not yet joined the Adrenal Group. An example of my mind unable to process things in steps... just signing up seems overwhelming - name, password, etc. I am doing a bit better today. Had a good evening and didnt wake with that Groundhog Day "totally disconnected from nite before" feeling. Still had tenuous grip on hope from last night. Perhaps the cortisol slam is being leveled out a bit...? I've always craved salt from the time I was a kid. My parents tried to curtail its use, but I persisted. Now, I think that even then it was my body's way of asking for what it needed. I i still have to do labwork to check the aldosterone part of this. Is that related to SIADH caused by SSRIs? I will keep repeating... it is POWERFULLY apparent how hormone/endocrine imbalances masquerade as psych disorders. Barbarannamated
I did well yesterday until late afternoon and then -BAM!- I was back in my black hole. Just like a switch was flipped. Woke up in same bad state and unable to shake it. It is so strong and fluctuating. It seems more of a delirium/altered state than low mood. Husband is angry at me. I cant explain why - because I'm a bother, I suppose. Thanks for sticking with me. I know this is not quite on topic, but your support means the world. I'm still on only 30mg of Armour thyroid. Pristiq tapered over 8 months ending Spring 2011 after 18 years of polydrugging that began w/Zoloft for fatigue/general malaise (not mood). Moderator Emeritus tezza Posted July 28, 2012 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted July 28, 2012 Oh Barb, I'm so sorry. Seems that's all I ever know to say but I mean it. I've been in similar situation with husband angry and having no idea why. That's very frustrating so I do sympathize. You are so sweet to always try to help others and then get treated like that for no reason...I can only hope things get better somehow, soon. {{{hugs}}} http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1644-tezza-risperdal-withdrawal/ Seroquel and Mirtazipine Link to comment
