Way to go!!

Various ADs from 1991, always for depression with anxiety and agitation... sertraline, paroxetine, citalopram (with 2.5mg olanzapine briefly), coming off each for increasingly shorter times until 2000 when I went on meds full time with Clomipramine 200mg. Then Venlafaxine (XR) since 2008, initially 225mg, then 300mg, plus tried on venlafaxine with mirtazapine (California Rocket) for only a week in 2017(?) as absolutely intolerable.

July '23 Venlafaxine XL 300 to 275mg.  Aug '23 275 to 250mg. Sept/Oct '23 250 to 230 to 225mg.  Nov '23 205mg. Dec '23 185mg.  28 Dec '23 reinstated 225mg after crashing.

Supplements: Vitamin D and fish oil.

I just wanted to add that I took a high-potency vitamin D3/K2 supplement one day, and welllll..... I'll NEVER do that again!  It was so incredibly activating.  You learn from your mistakes, that's for sure.

February 1, 2024

Starting Dose:  37.5 mg

Average Bead Count per Capsule:  111

Rate of Reduction:  5% every month

Beads Removed Today:  11

Dose Taken:  33.8 mg

This past month was pretty much status quo as far as symptoms go, but I did feel an increase in my anxiety during the last week of January.  I feel like it's manageable, and I'm sleeping well, so I went ahead and reduced by another 5% today.  The only thing that really throws me for a loop is if I experience stress, which my system just can't handle.  I therefore have to keep my life as stress-free as possible, which thankfully I am able to do most of the time.

Update:  Unfortunately, my WD symptoms really cranked up a notch last night.  I slept well from 8 pm - 12:30 am and then woke up feeling extremely anxious and wired.  I laid there for about four hours trying to get back to sleep.  I think around 4:30 am I finally did get back to sleep and slept until about 6:15 am.

It brought back some traumatic memories of my first tapering attempt, which ended in disaster, so I was trying to remain calm and not panic about it.

I am going to see how the rest of the month goes, but if this trajectory continues I'm going to have to hold at my current dose until my nervous system settles down a bit.

Definitely a good idea. Maybe doing a smaller drop next time or using the idea behind the brass monkey slide method. Not sure how that works with beads.

Your positive attitude and patience will go a long way at making this a success. You are doing great. 💯👍🙏

Thank you!  I took a Benadryl last night and actually slept 12 peaceful hours so I'm VERY happy about that.  I do feel much better today.  Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

Nice!! 😎 Nothing like a good night's sleep to make the world seem brighter.

Pronouns: they/them/theirs

Started on Prozac in early 2000s to treat cPTSD, been on various cocktails ever since.

2002-2004, 2017-2022: Buspar, tapered down to 0

2016-present: 100mg Seroquel for sleep -> May 2023: 90mg -> June 2023: 81mg -> September 2023: 72mg -> switched to brand name, much too strong, down to 60mg -> October 2023: 54mg -> November 2023: 50mg -> January 2024: 45mg -> April 2024: 40.5mg

2016-Present: 100mg Wellbutrin SR -> January 2023: 75mg IR (37.5mg 2x a day) -> February 2023 (33.75mg 2x a day) -> July 2023 (30.37mg 2x a day) -> August 2023: 27.33mg 2x a day

2018-present: 25mg Pristiq

2015-present: 600mg Gabapentin (200mg 3x a day) -> December 2022: 300mg Gabapentin (100mg 3x a day) per GP's recommendation after side effects -> March 2023: 90mg 3x a day (switched to liquid suspension) -> April 2023: 81mg 3x a day -> September 2023: bad generic, switched back to homemade liquid; too strong after bad generic, down to 70mg 3x a day, still bad. Adjusted slowly till at 60mg 3x a day, much better. Long hold till -> December 2023: 54mg, still feels too high after November Seroquel switch from brand name to generic, doc recommended 50mg which feels better -> January 2024: When Wellbutrin went down, Gabapentin started putting me to sleep, went down to 45mg, then 41mg to stay awake, so far so good -> February 2024: 36mg, still too high, 34mg -> March 2024: 31mg, STILL too high, 30mg

Supplements: Multivitamin w/magnesium, probiotics, digestive enzymes, anti-viral nitric oxide nose spray as needed

I took half a Benadryl last night and slept fairly well.  However, in general my level of anxiety has skyrocketed since my last two 5% tapers.  I am really feeling it.  I have come to the conclusion that it might take me 10 years to get off this awful drug.  I'm going to need to slow down my tapers because I refuse to experience the horrors of what happened to me before when I tapered too fast.  If it takes me a decade before I'm free of this evil poison then so be it.  I told myself that as long as I can sleep then I can handle things, but now that it's starting to affect my being able to sleep (without the use of anything) it's a clear sign that I must slow things down.  The main goal is to remain stable and functional.  I know there are other members who have taken many, many years to successfully taper, and I think I'm going to be one of those people unfortunately.  I've been on psych drugs for over 30 years so it's going to take my brain a long time to learn how to function again without them.

I have been pretty depressed lately and have been sitting around eating BUT today I am going to get in a nice workout and be more kind to myself.  I will NOT let this defeat me!

Sending love and warm healing thoughts to everyone!

As someone who just taper off Effexor, I appreciate your postings. The withdrawal has destroyed my life….looking for hope and the strength to hang on.

On Venlafaxine for 30 years, 150mg

2018 first tapered, over 2 months, horrible crashed, reinstated 3 months later

February 2023, tapering again, every 4 weeks reduced by 50%  150mg down to 37:5mg

June 2023, from 37.5, broke open capsule, started tapering by one bead at a time every 2 weeks

August, 2023 stopped last bead.
Nov, 2023, started Saint John Wort, 600mg, 3x a day = 1800mg  -

                                  reduced 1 capsules 300mg on Feb 15, 2024

Supplements,

magnesium bisglycinate, B complex, multivitamin, Omega 3 complex, Vitamin D3, digestive enzymes

also, use L-Theanine, occasionally natural GABA,  - stopped this in Jan 2024

For H.Pylori- Manuka Honey, 850mgo, Mastica Chios gum, Kefir, & probiotics

I was able to sleep all night without any Benadryl, so I'm very encouraged by that.  I will just keep a watch on myself the rest of this month and see how things go.  I would love to be able to reduce by another 5% next month, but I realize that I might need to either reduce by a smaller amount (2.5%) or just hold longer before my next 5% drop.  My anxiety doesn't feel as strong as it did a short time ago, but it's still there of course...it's always there.

I'm in no rush to get off this drug, even though I hate being on it more than anything in the world.  I'm forced to play by its dirty rules.  I just have to keep envisioning myself when the shackles are finally gone and I am FREE!!!

Good to hear. Benadryl went paradoxical on me for wasp stings so it's great if you don't have to overuse it.

@Catina7What if you tried switching to 2.5% every 2 weeks for 5% a month perhaps that might be easier on your system.

This is a good idea. If I do too big a drop on my Benzo I pay for it. But if I spread a similar size drop over a month it’s achievable.

Age 16 (1995 - 2000) -Paroxetine
Age 21 (2000-2004) - Effexor 37.5mg
Age 24 (2004-2012) - Lexapro (70mg), Xanax minimum 2mg Xanax a day
About 32 (2012-2017?) - Every mood stabiliser under the sun (not at the same time) and minimum 2mg Xanax a day; occasional amisulpride
About 35 (2017-current) - Lurasidone 80 mg, quickly titrated down to 40mg, Pristiq (50 mg), minimum of 2mg Xanax a day
About 41 (2020) Switched from Xanax to clonazepam and started tapering at 0.125 mg each reduction, tapered off Pristiq with a cross taper at the end, low dose of dextroamphetamine.
Age 42 (2021) Tried to taper off Lurasidone three times. Quick taper from 40mg to 0 mg over a couple of months the first time. Reinstated at 20mg. Tried twice more to taper from 20 mg to 0 mg dropping by 5 mg each reduction (about every 2 weeks).
Age 42-43 (April 2022) 20mg-18mg; May 18mg-16mg; June 16-14mg; September 14-12mg; September 12-14mg reinstated. February 2023 - hiccup with brand change, Back to Apotek brand and switch to homemade suspension.

Age 44 (August 2023 -restarted clonazepam taper). Start dose 0.375mg. 1/9/2023 - 0.365mg; 1/10/2023 - 0.324mg; 1/11/2023 - 0.264mg; 1/12/2023 - 0.25 mg (holding); 1/2/2024 - 0.232mg; 1/3/2024 - 0.221mg; 1/4/2024 - 0.205mg;

Health regimen: walks, hot/cold showers, ice baths, breathwork, mostly healthy diet, therapy...... Open to ideas! Supplements: Milk Kefir, Mag, Omega 3, CBD/THC.

March 1, 2024

Starting Dose:  37.5 mg

Average Bead Count per Capsule:  111

Rate of Reduction:  5% every month

Beads Removed Today:  16

Dose Taken:  32.1 mg

Today marks my third monthly taper of 5%.  Each month I've tapered, I've noticed that towards the end of the month I can feel my anxiety level go up.  I feel more revved up and it becomes more difficult to sleep.  Sometimes before bed I will take a scoop of Dr. Berg's Electrolyte Powder mixed w/ water along with 1/2-1 Benadryl.  For some reason I'm able to tolerate it, and it helps to calm me down to where I can sleep.  So far, the anxiety is the only WD symptom I deal with.  I'm grateful, but at the same time I don't want to get overconfident because I'm sure things will get harder as time goes on.

For now I will continue to stay the course of my monthly 5% taper and see how it continues to go.  If I need to hold for a bit longer in the future then so be it.

Hi Catina, I've read a bunch of your thread and just wanted to wish you luck on your new tapers. FeralCatman's suggestion (2.5% per 2 weeks) sounds like a good one. You got this.

Olanzapine (5mg) started June 2023 - This is the only drug I'm currently taking, haven't used any other psych drugs.

After 4 weeks dropped to 2.5mg for 5 days then dropped to 1.25mg for 3 days, withdrawals commenced. I then took a single dose of 3.75mg. Then went to 2.5mg. since July 19

Hoping to hold at 2.5mg  and GODWILLING I will STABILIZE.

I can't tell WD symptoms from Long Covid symptoms. I think a bit of both, and I think my quick earlier taper has made the LC symptoms worse ... what to do.

Update: Sept 28 2023: -2.5%   Oct 5: -2.5%   Oct 12: -2.5%   Oct 19: -5%   Oct 29: -5%   Nov 10: -5%  2.0mg  Nov 20:  -5%  1.9mg  Nov 30:  -5%  1.8mg  Dec 12:  1.75mg   Dec 22: 1.70mg

Dec 29: 1.65mg Jan 06/24: 1.60mg  Jan 14: 1.55mg Jan 25: 1.50mg   Feb 12: Updose to 1.55mg    Apr 25: 1.50mg

(percentage drops are from previous dose)

Very best wishes @Catina7. You are so brave . 🌸

2003 Paxil - I can't remember the dose but I think it was 10mg  experienced  horrendous akathisia when starting for 3 weeks then okay

2004.  slow reduction to 0 , withdrawal symptoms, so reinstated to 10mg - again horrendous Akathisia which lasted 5 weeks.
2005 - attempted to slowly taper off and again  Terrible withdrawal so reinstated and endured akathisia until it settled. Psychiatrist changed me over to

Zoloft so that I could have another baby. No adverse reaction with the switch except terrible diorreah

2006   tried once more to come off Zoloft carefully with terrible results. reinstated Zoloft and used 2.5 mg of zyprexa to help Akathisia- horrid episode                             lasted 3 months with some akathisia and severe depression which I’d never had before. Withdrawal from zyprexa ( depression)

2008  50 mg of Zoloft then after 6 months I tapered to 25 mg and decided to stay there .

2012 stress event and peri menopause acute anxiety which led to, updosing to 125 mg, tortuous symptoms(akathisia) then stabilized,  back to 50 mg-

2014 - same again  down to 25 with Akathisia on updosing and a hospital visit.

2019 - 2023 Zoloft tapering by 2 mg linear taper every 3 months started at 50 mg, got to 25 mg around January 2023.  June 2023- health anxiety and what feels like withdrawal again.  Insomnia, anxiety, blunted good feelings.

2023 June- Zyprexa taken twice, ativan 1 mg taken once, temazepan infrequent but 15- 18th of June used for 4 nights

2023 August - introduced 7.5 mg of mirtazapine for 12 days then 15mg of mirtazapine. Sleep now ok but daily life depression, anhedonia, agitation and a weird feeling of being sedate and anxious at the same time. Currently holding.

My introduction thread: Jaffa: Possibly late onset withdrawal

At the end of January it went up and then back down not too long after that.  At the end of February (just a few days ago) it went up and now it's been up for a bit longer than it was the first month.  I hope it goes back down soon!

Thank you!  Yes, if the 5% seems to be too much then I will break it down more.

Hey there Catina7. How's it going?

I am not a medical professional. My comments and posts are based on personal experiences. Please consult appropriate medical professionals for advice.

I was started on psych drugs back in the late 80's. You name it. I probably was on it. 47 different drugs. Over 57 thousand pills. Tapered off final cocktail February 1st, 2013- September 9th, 2019. For Hashimotos I take Levothyroxine. Liothyronine. BP meds. For supplements I take B12 hydroxy. Fish oil w/D3. Bee pollen. Magnesium Glycinate.
