I hear that!  This is when I fall back on the I'm chemically irritable description.   Everything bothers me and I want to overreact because I feel cranky.   Luckily I can usually keep it locked up but sometimes things will sneak out I would have normally kept inside.   Will this go away after I get off the meds or be really difficult to control?  I have no idea.   I'm starting to think there very well may be a long emotional adjustment period.

I agree, I think it will take a lot to adjust to this. I wish I knew whether it was going to get easier. The success stories mostly say yes, but there’s not heaps of them…..

There's 20 million or more people on ADs in the US.   Do you have any thoughts on why we have so few active discussions on this website?   Paxilprogress had more by my recollection.  Maybe there really are very few people who have issues discontinuing?  Is there some other website that more people use for withdrawing from ADs or something?   Maybe there just aren't many people who took these as long as I did, I can't even guess.

I think many people taper and suffer through but maybe don’t have ‘extreme’ withdrawals. I think many stay on their meds forever, or change to another med. I think very few, once they’re on the med machine actually taper off and just stop taking medication. Once you’re on, you’re on I think. Not always the case but very frequently I believe. Also many people don’t know about this site. I see people crying out for help On reddit and they’ve never heard of this site. Other people say they came here but had a negative experience so didn’t stay.

1130 health smoothie

Please let us know the ingredients of your health smoothie. Just want to do a check-in on any supplements or other ingredients that are in it to see if it may cause problems, especially in the long term.

Are you drinking smoothies because of a lack of appetite?

Thanks for listing the ingredients, Thorin. That does sound healthy and aptly titled - "health smoothie."

Hi Sadie. I think it’s the generic. You should stick with the one you’re currently taking I think as switching brands can trigger withdrawal.

So overall symptoms at the moment. Slightly down mood, definitely not feeling happy but not severe mood either. Loud tinnitus. I’m holding faith that this will be like the other symptoms I’ve experienced and pass eventually. Not great appetite. Insomnia. 4-5 hours sleep a night at the moment. This has passed before and I’m assuming will again. If I continue to be ‘stable’ into next year I will be able to attempt to start my Lurasidone taper again. I calculated that if I dropped by 10% a month (I’ll be reducing slower than that) I’d be finished with the Lurasidone taper in early 2025. Would then just have to compete the clonazepam taper. That’s a really long time. But if taking that long means that the taper minimally impacts my life then it’ll be worth it.

I seem to be handling the insomnia reasonably well this time round. Did not handle it at all last time.

I’ve always tapered >10% except when I dropped from 20mg-18mg but that was an accident. I know better now. The next drop will be 0.5mg (3.57%) which will be t here smallest drop I’ve done. Hoping I barely notice it.

It’s amazing that just doing a couple of things in a day, nowhere near what I used to do will leave me exhausted the next day. The last week must be finally catching up with me. Going to go home and rest in the bed!

I don’t know man. I’m assuming WD. I’ve been having pretty bad insomnia but also been out more for work so more active. Went out and did things yesterday the couldn’t sleep until 0130 and today I’ve just crashed. Maybe we push it a little hard when we’re feeling functional and our body has to remind us to go slow…… be interesting to see how long it takes us to pick up again.

Good on you for listening to your body though. I had a friend call up Friday to see if I wanted to catch up for dinner and I had to say no. Just didn’t have the energy. Feel very fatigued….. wonder if this is what Chronic Fatigue feels like.

Precisely this.   I've been still having vivid dreams and waking up early and whatnot, then extreme fatigue in the afternoon.   You know what?  I'm going to chalk it up to chems in one way or another.  I used to have the same symptom back when I was on the max of Effexor.  I'd get extreme fatigue and nothing could stop me from taking a nap.

This.  I've no idea if it's a long term thing or something that will resolve in a few weeks if I hold.   When I talked to that Psych Dr that writes the articles on tapering, he told me to hold for an extra month every 6 months to let everything rebuild a little longer and avoid a crash.  I wonder if this is a symptom?  I better take it as a red flag until I know more and not ignore it.  I have another 10 days of holding, so I will have a little more evidence.  I just didn't expect this LOL!

Yep I am going to listen very closely to what my body tells me it needs. Pushing through never helped anyone on the long term. I’ve had fatigue like this in the past (since reducing meds). It’s passed before but it took me looking after myself to get it to pass.

Good to know.  At the end of the day, I'm just along for the ride on this, willpower isn't going to fix anything when it comes to how fast my CNS rebuilds.   Tough to accept that for me, though.  You know, one day we're going to be able to work and function without this monkey on our back.   Will be interesting to see what that is like.

I'm looking at your taper history, to my eyes it looks like something an MD would recommend.  My working theory is that the people around this website are more tenacious and committed to WD than the average person.  My therapist said he works with people who give up really quickly after an MD takes them off too fast.  Maybe someone around here has an easy time of this, but I haven't seen a lot.

How you doing otherwise, man?   You having vivid dreams?  How's the fam?  Sounds like you're maintaining friendships if you're getting asked to dinner, that's pretty great!  I've neglected mine since I started this stuff, which is never a good thing.

Hard for me to accept too. I’ve always been someone that had to take action if something was bothering me and could push through almost anything. Am not able to ‘just push through’ anymore. Maybe that’s a good thing. I’m more aware of my body’s needs than I used to be.

I’m seeing more and more posts about this (I’ve branched out from this site a bit). People are healing and thriving. They thought they would be in hell forever but end up healing completely. Their stories are wonderful to read. Google Baylissa. Was just looking in her website. She goes through all the symptoms and talks about them. Was pretty good.

Exactly. Now I’m going by what my body tells me rather than what the Dr tells me. The Dr is a wonderful man but has no idea about withdrawal

I can understand that. I had to reinstate three times, then tapered too fast again (on different orders from the doc). Then stop and hold because I’d tapered too quickly. I will be following the guidelines of this group when I start again but being completely guided by my body

My work colleague just told me he came off sertraline over a 1 week period after taking it for a few years. Not a problem. What a **** 😂. Joke, very nice guy and I’m glad it was easy for him. Wish it was easy for us.

Family’s pretty good but I do feel pretty guilty about being a downer a lot of the time instead of the fun person I used to be. I just keep telling myself I’ll be fun again one day and trying to not just think/talk about what I’m going through all the time. Hard not too when it takes up most off my thoughts though. Meds stopped me dreaming completely. I now remember little bits of dreams here and there but not like I used to (used to have very vivid dreams). I hope to get my dreams back one day. But I used to have recurring nightmares about my trauma every night when I was younger. Definitely do not want that back again.

I see you live in San Diego? I’ve been to the states a few times but never there. Is it dessert country (dry/hot). What’s life like there? Do you ever go over to Mexico? I went to Juarez once not knowing what border towns are all about. That place was an eye opener…..

LOL yeah I hear you, I'm jealous as hell when people talk about just throwing away the pills and they're fine in 2 weeks.  The less I dwell on it the better.

I hear that!  I used to have jokes.  I barely even remember that guy, just on a few up days.

Hard not too when it takes up most off my thoughts though.

I try not to be neurotic about it, but I'm taking this stuff 3 times a day with symptoms that rise and fall like the tides all day, so it's just constantly up front and center.   I hope you're able to get a slow taper to work so it goes to the background.

I used to wake up screaming almost every night when I was younger.   Little did I know the ADs are partly to blame for the vividness, but still.

LOL!!!  I haven't been there in a minute, but I remember the first time I went to Juarez as a kid and had no idea what to expect.  Still fun though.  Yeah SD is debatably a desert.  It's a fun place to visit if you have a reason to be here, but I wouldn't consider it a destination city, really.  There are livestreams of the shipping lanes and you can see all sorts of Navy ships and whatnot floating around, which is pretty cool.   I run livestreams in my office all day on an extra TV.  Its made my work life 10,000% better LOL

Many of us become unable to handle sugary foods during withdrawal. You mentioned a few weeks ago that improving your diet was helpful.

Instead of giving into the sugar cravings, try having something with protein in it. That can help stop cravings. Many of us find that low carb diets can be very helpful during withdrawal.

Just some food for thought, so to speak.

Hey man!  I wish I had answers for you, just wanted to say you're not alone.  This could more or less be one of my days, peaks and valleys all day, and some days weigh more to one side than the other. I remain firmly convinced that its worth it, and with each day that light at the end of the tunnel gets a little bigger.  Stay strong, brother!

Thanks @Shep and @j1290

i had made that very decision while I was lying in bed last night Shep. Back to only healthy food. My nap yesterday lasted 2.5 hours so I’m assuming what I experienced was exhaustion/tiredness.

Thanks mate. Just wears me down with the inconsistency of everything. The way the symptoms keep morphing and changing with new symptoms turning up just when I think I’m improving. It’s wearing me down. I’m sure I’ll be fine when this latest set of symptoms eases up.

Hi @Shep not sure if this is appropriate but just seeking a little reassurance right now. I’ve been holding for a few months now. Admittedly my taper was way too fast prior to holding and symptoms got pretty out of hand for a while. What is bothering me is that rather than getting better despite holding, my symptoms just seem to morph and change, but I always have some symptom (usually multiple). While the symptoms are changing they’re not necessarily easing up at all. Am I right in thinking of what I’m experiencing as being similar to having CT? Albeit not as bad and will hopefully resolve faster as I’m still on the meds? Just in the last few days almost all my symptoms have become ‘head’ symptoms in addition to insomnia and low mood. Just feeling a little lost. Not seeking to have you make me feel better so much as making sure this is normal after a too fast taper and that my brain will eventually catch up to the changes it’s experienced and then I’ll be able to start the taper at the correct pace. Thanks for your time.

Boy do I hear that!   That year I spent trying to figure out what I was doing...had similarities.  I stayed at the same level I'd been on for years, just in the IR instead of XL, and it seemed like every day was different than the last, and it never got better, only worse, actually.   None of that contributed to me making good decisions, which turned out to be pivotal because the experts I consulted pointed in every direction but at the pills I was taking as an explanation for the symptoms.   I don't have a clue if this applies to you but the best decision I made (out of desperation)was to return to the last stable dose and time release that I knew of, and it wasn't fun but it got me functional enough to make lots of decisions about my treatment.

That's a long winded way of saying this **** was terrifying, quite frankly, when nothing seemed to behave in a predictable way.   My daily WD checklists have helped a lot in that regard to see patterns, as well as my decision to normalize my symptoms.   Once I adjusted my expectation from feeling normal or functional to expecting to feel heavy side effects from these pills, it took away a lot of the emotional energy.   Only reducing the pills has made me actually feel better, but normalizing the situation reduced the frustration and anxiety.

I'm not sure if any of that is a help, but maybe reading it took your mind off of things for a few minutes, anyway!   Hang in there man, you really will find your way through this.

Hey man!  When I switched back to the XL version, my flu like symptoms literally started to get better the first day(I think the generic I was taking wasn't working right), and I readjusted to the XL within a few weeks or so.   I still felt lousy, maybe it pooped out, maybe it was because when I switched back to XL it no longer worked the same any more on me, who knows.  After a couple months of trying to get that to work better with namebrand drugs, etc I decided it wasn't getting better so the only way out was to reduce.  4 months later here I am, in much better shape than I've been in since I started this all last June, but still with peaks and valleys all day long, really.   If I back away from the day to day and look at the macro picture, the trend is to the good.

Also, did you know we pay $1/kiwi here in the US?   Outrageous!   Also certain stores import their beef from New Zealand, of all things.  I've no idea how that is cheaper to source than domestic, but there it is.

After a couple months of trying to get that to work better with namebrand drugs, etc I decided it wasn't getting better so the only way out was to reduce

I may get to the same place where I’ll just start tapering again and hope it doesn’t get worse.

Also, did you know we pay $1/kiwi here in the US?

Do you mean $US1 =$NZ1? I had no idea. I knew NZ was expensive but I haven’t been there yet to see for myself.

NZ is pretty famous for its beef and lamb. Many kiwis buy land in the state where I live as it’s cheaper here and good quality beef and dairy raising land.

Honestly, I had to make a lot of decisions and test out theories, most of which turned out to be wrong.  Learning the rules of this game was the hardest part.   Really it wasn't until this 4th month of tapers that I'm reasonably satisfied that it's working and my symptoms, my WD Normal, is better than when I started.

I should have been more specific.  A kiwifruit costs $1 here, on sale.  I didn't know that about raising cattle.

I am not a doctor and do not offer any medical advice, only my own experience.  Consult your physician.

That’s good. Sounds like I may have to follow your example and just make the leap into a taper. Will see how I’m doing mid January and if i’m the same as now or better I think I’ll just do it. At least I’ll feel better knowing I’m reducing the amount of crap I’m putting in my system. I may feel some improvement on a lower dose if I’m not tapering too fast.

Oh right a kiwifruit haha. Didn’t realise what you meant. Yeah they can get pretty damn expensive here too. Do they grow in the states at all? Interesting that the US import beef. I thought you guys produced plenty. I did find that the food tasted fantastic in the states. Was more expensive to eat healthy than I liked though. The fruit and veg seemed to be pretty tasty compared to our supermarket fruit and veg here. Struggled with the bacon though. Was WAY too sweet. Did find a good one in the end so it was ok 😂. So many foods were so much sweeter than we’re used to here in Oz.
