Dahlia50: Reducing Zoloft

Dahlia50

Recommended Posts

I have terrible WD. Did an MRI which came out blank. I'm in hospital again. Dont know if I can bear this, 5,5 months off. The waves mashing me.

I can reinstate 1mg zoloft in hospital. I have to decide for myself, but isnt so stable in making decisions now. Afraid that it will worsen WD and the situation even more. But would need help to reduce some torture WD. Maybe it can't even help the injury when you hit hard. Afraid that my nervous system is so worn out that it won't tolerate a drug. Or if I survive this WD for years.

No one can advise for sure, but would be greatful for your thoughts, support or just someone to talk to…

2008 Zoloft 50mg

2022 May - 62,5mg (doctor wanted to increase). Felt sick, went back to 50mg efter 2 weeks

2022 Oct - Reducing dose to 37,5mg (from 50mg). WD in few days, advised to go back to 50 - I then got adverse worse paradoxical effect

2022 Oct - Zoloft 50mg severe side effects/adverse reaction

2023 May 5th - Reducing dose to 25mg (directly from 50mg by Dr, WD).

2023 Aug 1st - Reducing dose to 12,5mg

2023 Oct 10th - Removed dose from 12mg to zero by Dr. Tried reinstate citalopram after 3 months didnt work bad reaction. In Terrible WD.

Use melatonin 4mg. Lergigan 5mg. Omega 3, D-vitamin, magnesium glycinate, zink.

So sorry you're suffering so much.  Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that reinstating at 5.5 months off would be beneficial.  I'm not at liberty to say one way or another, the choice is yours.  If you're able to, you may want to read through the topic about reinstatement.  https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/7562-about-reinstating-and-stabilizing-to-reduce-withdrawal-symptoms/

I know you think you're too far gone, but in time you WILL get better.  There are many who have been through severe WD and have healed.  Please keep hope alive!

Sending you a big hug with warm healing thoughts....

I am thinking of you every day @Dahlia50

2003 Paxil - I can't remember the dose but I think it was 10mg  experienced  horrendous akathisia when starting for 3 weeks then okay

2004.  slow reduction to 0 , withdrawal symptoms, so reinstated to 10mg - again horrendous Akathisia which lasted 5 weeks.
2005 - attempted to slowly taper off and again  Terrible withdrawal so reinstated and endured akathisia until it settled. Psychiatrist changed me over to

Zoloft so that I could have another baby. No adverse reaction with the switch except terrible diorreah

2006   tried once more to come off Zoloft carefully with terrible results. reinstated Zoloft and used 2.5 mg of zyprexa to help Akathisia- horrid episode                             lasted 3 months with some akathisia and severe depression which I’d never had before. Withdrawal from zyprexa ( depression)

2008  50 mg of Zoloft then after 6 months I tapered to 25 mg and decided to stay there .

2012 stress event and peri menopause acute anxiety which led to, updosing to 125 mg, tortuous symptoms(akathisia) then stabilized,  back to 50 mg-

2014 - same again  down to 25 with Akathisia on updosing and a hospital visit.

2019 - 2023 Zoloft tapering by 2 mg linear taper every 3 months started at 50 mg, got to 25 mg around January 2023.  June 2023- health anxiety and what feels like withdrawal again.  Insomnia, anxiety, blunted good feelings.

2023 June- Zyprexa taken twice, ativan 1 mg taken once, temazepan infrequent but 15- 18th of June used for 4 nights

2023 August - introduced 7.5 mg of mirtazapine for 12 days then 15mg of mirtazapine. Sleep now ok but daily life depression, anhedonia, agitation and a weird feeling of being sedate and anxious at the same time. Currently holding.

Thinking about my taper journey. I did a big reduction from 50 to 25mg (by Dr). Then to 12mg. There were terrible WD symptoms but I got through it. It was when I dropped from 12mg to zero that all hell broke loose. Wish I stayed on 12mg or went down to 6mg and stopped. At least I functioned and could have started work.

What I'm in now is another dimension, didn't know protracted WD could be this horrible and painful. It's like the body and brain are in a free fall. Sometimes wonder if its impossible to stop SSRIs if you have taken them for 13 years, some people cannot stop completely. Maybe I was one of them. Stupid nasty drug.

Some people reinstate to taper longer. Did you ever think about  doing that? I don't understand tapering since you are still putting the drug in your body and it is continually causing harm.I am hoping iI am almost at the end of this nightmare.

@mariamisery I probably missed the window for reinstate. And then WD delay got worse after a few months. I tried to reinstate but had a bad reaction. Still thinking about it but fear it will get worse. It is difficult. Now wish I reinstated in first few weeks. It is a nightmare.

Your body and brain can heal. The problem is that it's a long road. The brain has to grow new target receptors and this is a slow process. I think you need to invite in the idea that the first 12 months will be very difficult. You have been on this drug for 13 years yes! I know a man who recently spoke of his healing journey and it was eighteen months till he got better. He had been on an ssri for just under a decade so I imagine that the timeline would be the same for you. I know living in this pain for that long seems unbearable but its not at the same level of intensity all the way along. I don't think Iv'e ever seen person who thought that they would heal from this injury. The state you are in is withdrawal normal and not a single positive thought seems possible. The good news is that whether you believe it or not - you HEAL anyway. Sending so much love and warm wishes your way.

Hi @mariamisery  there’s no standard timeline for anyone I’m afraid. There are other people on this site who took medication for a few days or weeks who may be able to help.

I suggest starting your own thread with your own drug history for people to pick up on your situation and help you rather than ask the question in Dahlia50’s thread.

2023 mainly bupropion (150mg stopped after few weeks, 300mg stopped after few another weeks, 150mg stopped after few months) until IAR, buspirone (5mg) tried for 3 days

Sad today. Suffering immensely. Still in hospital. The doctor said that reinstate can help WD. Haven't slept in alkostopp 4 nights which is new thing. They have prescribed olanazapine in a low dose for sleep but don’t dare to take it. Or Propavan, do I dare to take it? Went home tonight temporary to see if I can sleep better.

Now have extreme brain burning, nervpain, depression and other symptoms. Almost 6 months off. How can it get worse? Sometimes wonder if it's just WD or if I also crashed because I tapered too fast. Or zoloft injury comes to light now when off. How can you survive this if it takes so long for one's own serotonin to work and help well-being.
Can it be this horrible? I'm probably a severe case and brain damaged, feels like it. I miss my good life.

I was ok before the last reduction to zero, how can it be like this. Sorry, today very negative.
Jealous of everyone who can enjoy the spring sun.

Just want to say that you here mean a lot to me right now!

Dahlia, remember there are always many options to try if you can't fall asleep. They may work or not, but at least you take steps to make your nights more peaceful and increase the chances of getting some rest. There's a topic here about insomnia and remember that since it's a new symptom, it may as well go away. I had it for a week and then it never came back.

Dahlia, this is a lot of thoughts that anyone could wonder about in your situation. You can't change your past, but remember you will not be stuck in it forever. You won't be harmed by these symptoms. A drop from something to zero is always more challenging than a drop from something to something smaller. I also used to think I have brain damage because these sensations, the way I was feeling my nerves, it was so alien, it felt so broken... but it's not. It really isn't anything else than your experience. Please do not think about it now, you are already in a very difficult moment, do your best to let go of these rumminations because you are absolutely in no position to solve anything now with your thinking. It brings nothing but more pain. You are not beyond help. We'll be here for you, fighting for any second of your smile if needed.

This is completely understandable that you feel this way. No need to appologise. Remember that you're not dragged into different reality, you are here with us and your current mood is not determining your status. The recovery will come, this real Dahlia reading it now is not dreaming, she will be able to enjoy anything with time. Stay very strong and I wish you a solid rest during your sleep!

Hi,

Is there anything else you can take besides melatonin in this sensitive situation? My biggest problem right now is that I can't sleep at all.

Have tried sleep meditation and relaxing music. I know drugs are not good for me but is there something that can help and not mess with the nervous system too much.

Took 2 imovane did not help and did not go well. What are others doing here who suffered from insomnia during WD?

I didn’t find that melatonin helped me. Doctor gave me imovane (Zopiclone) which helped for a week then don’t work and may have made sleeping without harder.

Magnesium Glycinate helped me to stay asleep and perhaps get to sleep a little bit. I used to do A to Z of things in my head to distract me (cities, rivers, dog breeds….)

there is a topic on insomnia in here. No magic solution though I’m afraid.

It gets better I remember my first full night, then 2 and after a while I was sleeping well 50% of days. Now I just have 1 or 2 bad days per month. It takes time.

50 mg Sertraline Nov 2016 to Dec 2016

100 mg Sertraline Jan - March 2017

50 mg Sertraline April - June 2017

25 mg Sertraline July 2017 - Sept 2018

12.5 mg Sertraline Oct 2018

0 mg Nov 1 2018

@Dahlia50 I too take the magnesium at night about 1/2 before bed, I listen to “sleep meditation” from “progressive hypnosis”  from YouTube,  it took a couple of nights for me to get used to it but it helped a lot.  I’m getting 4hrs of solid sleep now, want more of course, … when I awake I listen to another healing video…

the above are my two standard ones I use,  getting some sleep is essential to surviving this!!
