Exactly.

The drugs, in some cases, create a false self. It's worth whatever you have to go through to get the true self back again.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!

And not only yourself back, but your health;these meds are poison!

Last two days very similar, very tired from lack of sleep, but no WD symptoms.

Sept 12th 1992-began taking Imipramine (50mgs) for panic attacks.

Stopped Imipramine after 4 months (cold turkey).

7 months later experienced "mysterious" bad flu-like symptoms, although, without upper respiratory problems or fever. Because of this and a day of panic attacks, was put on Prozac (20mgs?) for 2 months and then, when that didn't work-was put back on  Imipramine,  plus Xanax 1 mg (4Xdaily)-October 1993.

March 1999-switched from Imipramine (50mgs) to Celexa.

2008-switched to Pristiq for 3 months, then back to Effexor XR (after bad reaction to the Pristiq).

Sept 1st 2010-Switched from Effexor XR (75mgs) to Effexor Generic (solid form) in preparation for taper.

Nov 15th 2010-Began tapering from 75mgs Effexor Generic.

A 3rd day w/out wd symptoms, even slept better, lots of work done today including studying. Raked leaves for an hour and lifted light weights, ate healthy (have lost 13 lbs in 7 weeks), not shocked to find I'm generally feeling great.

Some trouble last 3 days with low mood. A few hours both Thurday and Friday, and most of the day today. Got through it without too much trouble, though.

Feeling pretty good at the moment. Not much work done the past 3 days, but a lot of studying, and am still excercising and eating right. Got out to a community spagetti dinner tonight, and watched the Alabama/Kentucky game with a friend.

On again, off again anxiety/low mood for most of the afternoon and evening. I feel very normal and even great for an hour or so and then bad for maybe an hour, or even less time, and then I'm OK again for a while. Switched back and forth this way 4-5 times today. Feeling fine again now and for the last 3 hours. It's as though my nervous system were struggling to stay in homeostasis.

No WD symptoms last two days, 15th and 16th. Busier than usual. I had my second individual therapy session, talked about whether I actually need

this in addition to my regular group therapy-I think I do, but I've been feeling so much better lately (last 3-4 months) I guess it's not obvious to the therapist why I'm there. I'll take it as a good sign.

Only a few hours sleep last night, woke up twice with anxiety which passed both times after about 20 minutes of mindfulness and abdominal breathing. There was also a sensitivity to cold with the anxiety each time. I had the thermostat way up, but I still felt chilled. Did alright today, got the flu-like feeling around 9 PM, lasted for about 45 minutes.

Feeling fine now at bedtime (midnight).

Felt generally good this past week. Some patches of irritability and anxiety-especially mornings, but none of these are what I'd call lasting (more than an hour), and none has stopped me from normal daily functioning, from my regular pursuits and goals.

I dropped to below 1/10th of a mg for the first time this morning. Probably half this (.04 mgs) will be my stepping off place sometime in early spring 2014 (March?).

Third day since latest drop. Sleeping much better lately. A full night's sleep most nights and sleeping straight through-something I never did even before antidepressants.  Some mild anxiety in morning. Strange to say, but I've noticed that I sleep better if I have 2 cups of coffee in the AM. Pradoxical since

caffeine causes Cortisol production. In fact, my morning anxiety goes away as I drink my first cup. Doesn't make sense, I know, but there it is.

Mood up last few weeks, still getting lots done and generally enthusiastic. Still eating right and exercising regularly. Also studying various subjects, Literature (novels-Swan's Way at the moment), Philosophy (just finished reading Plato's Republic for the first time in many years), Poetry (The 4 Quartets, Wasteland, Leaves Of Grass).

There seems to be a way through this.

My morning coffee often brings me relief too.  Of course it's possible that the relief is temporary and it's throwing us off in a more general sense.

It's possible, especially over the long run. Still, I'm only just starting to sleep better after more than a year of insomnia, and even though it-for reasons unknown-never really bothered me much-I still am noticing some positive signs after only a few weeks of improved sleep. One example, I was getting these really deep lines in my cheeks (winkles). I assumed they were just normal aging, but in the last three weeks they've all but disappeared. I'm also much less irritable.

I have lost almost 20 pounds in the last 3 months--maybe I had a snoring problem that improved with the weight loss, which in turn improved my sleep. Anyway, I'm beginning to get used to feeling normal again.

I have a freind who always says, "Hey, what's normal?".

And I always say, "If you'd been through what I've been through, you'd know exactly what 'normal' is and how great it can be to get back to." But she doesn't get what I mean-when you don't feel things out of the normal range of emotions (or at least not very often or for very long) you can get a little bored with normal feelings, I suppose, that is, see it as something negative. I'd like to get to this point again myself. Thank God, everything now really seems to be tending in that direction.

That's great to hear Hudgens and thank you for keeping us updated.

Have you decided how low you are going to go before stopping?

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

I'm not sure, but somewhere below .05 mg, I'm looking for the softest landing possible. Something like stepping off of an escalator just as the moving step disappears from under your feet.

Hurray!Hudgens, did you make a liquid of the Effexor? If so, please tell us how you made the transition from the XR capsules to the liquid. This will help others.

Measurement by eye.

Interesting, as it seems your milligram measurements are so precise.
