Thorin
Still waiting for a full two weeks since I’ve had a drop of alcohol before I start posting my symptoms log again. I will say that a new symptom has appeared. I’m getting this gnawing, nauseous, churning in my stomach that is very uncomfortable. Interesting even though I’m having days where my symptoms are harder to tolerate than they’ve ever been, I’m actually out of bed more and more active than I have been in quite some time. Can’t wait until I stabilise at the dose I’m at now to see what it’s like to be stable and on such a low dose of medication. Much of what I thought was cPTSD is actually withdrawal I now realise. Thorin
Thanks @manymoretodays, good to know you’re still checking in. Been feeling a bit alone on this journey recently. It’s very much window and waves. Windows tend to last a day. Waves tend to last longer. It’s hard to tell if I’m improving overall. I think I am slowly. It seems like it will be forever before I am stable enough to start reducing again. It’s very clear now that I reduced the Lurasidone much too quickly and that my brain/CNS is playing catch up. j1290
@Thorin Hey there, sounds like you're having a day of it! Sometimes when I'm feeling low, I read more of the suggested topics on this website. Some of them go back a long way, and it's nice to see I'm not the only one struggling with this stuff. Just gameplanning more of my taper makes me feel like I'm doing something, and takes my mind off. Do you use the daily withdrawal checklist? I love that thing. I don't know what I ever did without it. I think I was stubborn and didn't want to use it, but turned out to be a great reference. Kind of a diary. Thorin
@j1290 thanks for checking in. I have had a few days that felt particularly rough but I've also had the odd day that's been quite good. Yesterday I felt 90% reasonable but today was a backslide again. Thorin
Well enough sitting at the computer feeling crap for now. I'm going for a jog then going to try and relax for a while. For a long time I wasn't able to watch TV as for some reason it gave me INTENSE fear and anxiety. I am able to watch it again now (ha. a sign I am improving. Hard to see when you're having a bad day) so I might try to find a good series to lose myself in. Before I do I need to write something positive so I think I will write down the symptoms I had in the recent past which have now stopped, reduced or changed... So much dizziness I was scared to drive - I still get dizzy but it's only at a 1 or 2/10 now Intense fear, dread and anxiety - I still have all these but they are not completely overwhelming. Still extremely difficult to tolerate but definitely better than I was before Could barely get out of bed for months - some days I stay in bed. Sometimes for a couple of days. But in general I'm more active about the house now, go for short jogs or walks. Do go out for some activities. I really did spend a LONG time just lying on my bed when I wasn't working at my computer weakness - this has lessened greatly. Perhaps partly because I started doing something to combat it Strong, strange pressures and sensations in my head - again still present but GREATLY reduced..... This was a hard one. Exacerbation of my underlying trauma symptoms - this has settled significantly too. I was an emotional mess for quite a while there. Not sure if the reduction in trauma symptoms is entirely a lessening of withdrawals or down to the therapy and work I've put in. Hopefully both! No appetite - my appetite has returned mostly. So reading what I've just written it's obvious I have improved from where I was several months ago. I just wish I knew, from day to day how I will feel so I could make plans. I wish I knew what my endpoint is. How will I be at the end of this???? Great, just ok? sometimes ok and sometimes not ok? I'll have to wait and see I guess. When will I be clear of this stuff? Every time I think about how far I have to go I feel sick in the stomach. Every time I think about how far I have come and how much I've improved I just want to hug someone. Considering I started the Lurasidone taper December 2021 (three failed attempts; tapered most of the way of Xanax/clonazepam prior to this) I guess the last twelve months has gone by quickly. It's been a hell of a year. One I never want to repeat. But I've managed in that time to: Do some good therapy Be a good father improve as a partner hold down a job (just, this has been hard) navigate life (albeit at a much reduced capacity) I should be grateful I guess. While some of the last year has been beyond hellish and I have to admit, if I didn't have family I love and that need me I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have made it this far. It seems I am doing better than some others. Those of you that can't function, are ALWAYS suicidal, are stuck at the bottom of the hole. My heart goes out to you. I nearly didn't make it this far and it has taken great strength to endure. The fact that you may be enduring an even worse experience than I am goes to show JUST HOW STRONG YOU ARE! I am amazed at your strength and I'm glad we're all in this together. 1 Age 16 (1995 - 2000) -Paroxetine Age 21 (2000-2004) - Effexor 37.5mg Age 24 (2004-2012) - Lexapro (70mg), Xanax minimum 2mg Xanax a day About 32 (2012-2017?) - Every mood stabiliser under the sun (not at the same time) and minimum 2mg Xanax a day; occasional amisulpride About 35 (2017-current) - Lurasidone 80 mg, quickly titrated down to 40mg, Pristiq (50 mg), minimum of 2mg Xanax a day About 41 (2020) Switched from Xanax to clonazepam and started tapering at 0.125 mg each reduction, tapered off Pristiq with a cross taper at the end, low dose of dextroamphetamine. j1290
@Thorin I can relate to so much of this, and specifically the strange pressures+sensations. A few months ago I declared all my symptoms to be normal and unremarkable, part of my WD Normal. They're inconvenient and frustrating, kinda like diahrrea or something, but not mysterious anymore. They don't go away, just less concerning, on a good day. Sounds like through a helluva lot of hard work, you've made huge strides. I'm proud to know you. Salut! Thorin
I should also add to my previous post about how far I’ve come that I haven’t taken any dextroamphetamine in about three weeks. And I can get my work done! It’s difficult at times, and I get worried I’ll make mistakes because it can be hard to focus, concentrate, think etc. but it’s one less drug I’m taking! I’ve read the guidelines for Latuda on this site but I’m confused to how people are getting accurate small doses for this medication. Thanks! Hi Sadie, Are you withdrawing from Latuda as well? What are your symptoms? What dose are you on? I take my tablets to a compounding pharmacy. They then crush up the tablets and make them into 14mg capsules for me. This seems to be very accurate. They can make up quite small doses. They also do suspensions as well. I'm not sure if they do this in every country. I know there are topics here that talk about different ways you can make up various doses, right down to very small doses. If you can't find the topic ask one of the admin. They'll probably include this topic when you do your introduction post. Thorin
Hey @Altostrata, I'm ready to start posting my symptom log again. This past week has mostly been ok days which is a nice change. Even had one 'good' day. Feels like my brain may actually be starting to catch up with me reducing the lurasidone. Symptoms have been minimal. Here's my symptom log for 5/11/2022: Woke up early, mild stress about social event later 0830 0.125 mg clonazepam 1100 mag and vit b 1300 0.125mg clonazepam. Feeling slightly off today. Can’t quite work it out. 1715 weak coffee trial 1900 14mg Lurasidone. Seem to be able to tolerate a weak coffee. This may change. 2230 0.125mg clonazepam The lack or reported symptoms means symptoms were mostly a 1/10 in intensity. I'll keep posting my symptoms every day or so. Thorin
I suspect I may have somewhat stabilised after all the dose changes that occurred since December 2021 (now November 2022). In that time I dropped from 40mg to 14mg, not really understanding that I was going through withdrawal and failing to come off Lurasidone three times early in the piece. After that I started a linear taper under the advice of my psychiatrist. That didn’t end well. Still, I’m over half way to being off Lurasidone, most of the way of Xanax (now clonazepam) and while not feeling good, this last week I’ve been reasonably stable in terms of withdrawal symptoms. I think I will keep everything at its current dose until early January so I don’t ruin Christmas and time with my family. Then I will start a much slower and more measured taper of my remaining meds. Not sure which med to taper first. From what I’ve read it’s best to taper the benzo last however I believe it’s giving me severe brain fog. On the flip side I’ve had a much more horrible experience with the Lurasidone and just want to get that horrible stuff behind me and in the trash where it belongs. Cheers! Hi Thorin, Thanks for letting me know! That’s great that compounding pharmacists can make these up for you! I’m on 30 mg, soon to be 20 mg of Lurasidone. I have been on 30 mg (from 40 mg) for 3 months now so I feel it is time to trial a reduction. So far I haven’t had any withdrawal symptoms, but I’m pretty sure I am a poor metabolizer of this medication, so I’m expecting a delayed withdrawal. I think it will take some convincing to go down any further than 20 mg because I am on this medication for Schizophrenia which I have been newly diagnosed with, and literature with being poor metabolizers on antipsychotics is limited (I only found an article stating if you’re on Risperidone you should be on 1/4 of the recommended dose). It took enough convincing to get this far, as the normal starting dose for Schizophrenia is 40 mg. I haven’t had any hallucinations or other symptoms on 30 mg so I am hoping 3 months was long enough to go ahead and trial 20 mg. Overall, I find Lurasidone the lesser of evils for antipsychotics as I am not drowsy at all, and don’t have akathisia as bad as I did on other medications. I have had some weight gain, my hair is thinning a lot, and I have a bit of akathisia in the afternoons so I’m hoping the reduction will help with this. I wish I could go off of all medications, and part of me still believes that there is a possibility that my short-lived psychosis episodes were because of medication withdrawal, not schizophrenia, as I was coming off of medication both times the psychosis happened. Either way the psychosis which presented as auditory hallucinations was super scary and I don’t think I want to experiment with being completely off a medication for now. Thanks:) June 2020 - Feb 2021 : Nortriptyline 10 mg July 2020 - Feb 2021 : Risperidone 0.25 mg March 2021 - April 2021 : Abilify 10 mg late Sept 2021 - early March 2022 : Clopixol March 9th 2022 - Aug 10th 2022 : Lurasidone (Latuda) 40 mg Aug 10th 2022 - Nov 2nd 2022 Lurasidone (Latuda) 30 mg Nov 2nd 2022 - Jan 25th 2022 : Lurasidone (Latuda) 20 mg Jan 26th 2023 - Current : Lurasidone (Latuda) 15 mg Current Vitamins: Vit B Complex, Calcium, Magnesium, Omega 3 Link to comment

I dropped from 40 - 30 and 30 - 20 then went slow from there. At the time I didn't realise I was experiencing withdrawals. I just thought my mental health was suffering. If I could go back I would go much slower. Once i started dropping doses from 20 mg things became MUCH more difficult (although still possible). I was doing a linear taper under my doctor's instructions which was definitely not a good idea. All future reductions will be a maximum 10% taper. My next taper will only be a 3.57% taper as I want to see how this effects me before working up to a full 10 % taper. I definitely won't be giving any advice on whether you should go lower than 20 mg. Only you can know what is right for you. My diagnosis is also different from yours (my diagnoses are: cPTSD, MDD, Anxiety and ADHD) although if you're going to give it a label I'd just call it 'trauma'. I hope things go well for you and that you get minimal or no withdrawals. Withdrawals from Latuda can be absolutely debilitating and I nearly didn't make it this far. I'm terrified to drop my dosage further and will be holding where I am until January at least. I refuse to stay on this poison though so will keep going no matter what! Good luck!
