Greatful: Is this withdrawal or too many med changes at once?

Hi Greatful,

It sounds like you are getting some relief from some of your symptoms, so happy for you. 🤗 The brain crushing/burning sounds really unpleasant. I get a heavy/fullness/pressure type feeling sometimes.

Many of my symptoms lift some in the late afternoon/evening, which is such a relief. I’ve been trying meditation on Gods word, trying to relax my mind and body, but it doesn’t always work. Bathes as well. They do help to release some of the body tension.

What techniques do you find helpful to relieve your symptoms?

Hugs,

Believer

1998-2015 Zoloft. 100mg

2015 Straight switch to Wellbutrin by GP who claimed Zoloft stopped working; I was experiencing occasional brain zaps. 3 months later Wellbutrin  XR. Highly activating. Lost ability to sleep. Seroquel x3 nights. Horrible reaction. Straight switch back to Zoloft, began taper. Found SA  after tapering 25 mgs a week to 25mgs and began experiencing W/D.

 1  1mgai 8am &   1mgai 4pm

2.20mgai of powder at 8am

Should I do 3/4 liquid 1/4 powder tomorrow

1.5mgai liquid at 8am & 1.5mgai 4pm

1.20mgai powder at 8am

I feel it is going pretty good, but worry if it will catch up on me if I go to fast......

I am also worried that I am taking more Lex later in the day and if it will affect my sleep.  I guess well adjust it if it does?

@manymoretodays

No I have not been taking Trazodone since 1995.   I took it short term in 95 and again short term in 1999  short term in 2014  then again started last winter when all the fun began...My hope is to get off the Lexapro then the Lamictal, not sure which one should be next...Xanax or Trazodone

Now I'm sad... Writing this reminds me that I am on so many drugs and want to be free of them.  How did I end up here on 4 drugs😥

You guys are great and I really appreciate the time you are putting in for me.

@Grateful

If you feel up to it I would go ahead and do the 3/4 liquid and 1/4 powder. The sooner we can get you to all liquid I think the better off you will be.

We can adjust the doses at that time if you feel it's interfering with sleep.

Keep me posted🙂

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Hi @Believer

Thanks for being a support for me........It is so wonderful that we have SA to be able to reach out and be heard and cared for....

Yes I am getting some relief.   The depression pretty much gone....Please don't come back😬

Still struggle with some DR and disconnection in the brain.. a long list but hey doing better and feeling hopeful

I meditate and try and tell myself positive things  Like I love myself,- God loves me,- I have nothing to fear but fear it's self......I sometimes have to tell myself that God gave me life and I am suppose to be here.-  I am healing - Think of things that I put a smile in my heart. I know how hard it is to do this when you feel awful and defeated.  So that doesn't always go well😥  But I was told/read  to say positive things even if they don't feel right/true🥰

I am reading book Recovery and Renewal by Baylissa Frederick,  Have you heard of her? She talks about positive affirmations and saying them with  emotion, conviction, and resolve.  Say the as often as you want.......Then more times the better.

She had so much courage and motivation to get through her acute and protracted WD from benzo's.  It was a motivation to keep trying.......She is adamant we will heal.  She has a website

baylissa.com    check it out......

I have to admit sometimes a good cry is helpful to let out some strong tension and emotions.

Sometimes you just say I can make it to bed tonight.......

Really I am a poor one to ask these questions too... I struggle with negativity and unworthiness and get stuck in down word spirals easily........🥴

How are you doing?

So you opted to shift to liquid AND start splitting your dose at the same time Greatful?  Why?

Yes, it could catch up with you.......either or......and we won't know really if you are worse due to the cross over to liquid or the split dose.

Did I miss that in your last notes......that you were moving or splitting your dose??  I mean I don't want to remove all sense of free agency from you now......but I am surprised......really surprised.

We do consider a crossover to be like a drug change, and a split dosing to be like a drug change, and we very rarely would condone making 2 changes at once.

The 3 KI's, simple, slow, stable......you'll find the link at the start of the Introductions forum.   And although you are not as stable as you would like to be........you are fairly stable with symptoms now......the same symptoms anyway.  With the exception of some improvement.......windows of periods of improvement.

So I would, I mean if it was me I'd go backwards now.  Did you move that 1 mg an hour at a time until you got it to 4pm?  If not......if me, I would keep your dose as it was, all at one time.

You can play with the split dosing later.  Sheesh......I wouldn't be honest, if I did not admit to being/feeling a little used/overlooked/not listened to/frustrated.

This is not a race, nor a time for risks.

Meantime, me, I would hold tight, at 1/2 dose and 1/2 dose a little longer.

The way we all ended up here I suppose.  We didn't know better and blindly trusted our prescribers.  We can look at what to get off next fairly soon.  Have you seen or had a chance to peruse these:

Did you read all the notes from frogie.....Did I miss understand her?

"Since it's been 6 days, I would try 1/2 liquid and 1/2 tablet, if you feel comfortable doing it. But I would split the 1/2 liquid into 2 doses and spread it about 8 hours apart. Don't take the lamictal at the same time. Spread it out an hour between each other. Lamictal can also give you those "angry" symptoms. It did with me bad. They ct'd me off of it and I don't recommend that at all. That wasn't fun. Maybe try 3-4 days of doing that and then switch to 3/4 liquid and 1/4 tablet. Wait 3-4 days and switch all to liquid and see if that works. If at anytime you feel you can't switch that fast then stop and go a bit slower. Once we get you on all liquid we can do a fast taper after you hold for a couple of weeks if needed.

No, you are fine. We had @DataGuy read your report and he suggested it might help to split the dose, so that is what you did.

You are feeling better by doing this, correct?

Yes, we are a team. All working together to heal everyone on here😊

PREVIOUS medications and discontinuations: Have been on medications since 1996.

Valium, Gabapentin, Lamictal, Prilosec and Zantac from 2000 to 2015 with a fast taper by a psychiatrist.

Liquid Lexapro Nov, 2016 to 31-March, 2019 Lexapro free!!! (total Lexapro taper was 4 years-started with pill form)

---CURRENT MEDICATIONS:Supplements:Milk Thistle, Metamucil, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin D3, Levothyroxine 25mcg, Vitamin C, Krill oil.

Xanax 1mg 3x day June, 2000 to 19-September, 2020 Went from .150 grams (average weight of 1 Xanax) 3x day to .003 grams 3x day. April 1, 2021 went back on 1mg a day. Started tapering May 19, 2023. July 28, 2023-approximately .87mg. Dr. fast tapered me at the end and realized he messed up. Prescribe it again and I am doing "slower than a turtle" taper.

19-September, 2020 Xanax free!!! (total Xanax taper was 15-1/2 months-1-June, 2019-19-September, 2020)

Oh Greatful, Frogie, Dataguy,

It wasn't about splitting the dose at all, which by the way I don't see where anyone was giving explicit directions to do that ........yet.  Oh, okay.......yes, Frogie gave the go ahead on doing that.

It was about making 2 changes at one time, not giving yourself time to adjust to the cross over to liquid.

To review, here is what Dataguy had to say about your metabolism, based on liver enzymes and CYP450 system:

And okay, and then here is what you " " Frogie saying.......I'm searching back now to see where that was exactly:

Ahhh, found it, okay last Saturday, January 22nd.

And this was my reasoning, on NOT making two drug changes at once:

On 1/26/2022 at 2:54 PM, manymoretodays said:

We do consider a crossover to be like a drug change, and a split dosing to be like a drug change, and we very rarely would condone making 2 changes at once.

The 3 KI's, simple, slow, stable......you'll find the link at the start of the Introductions forum.   And although you are not as stable as you would like to be........you are fairly stable with symptoms now......the same symptoms anyway.  With the exception of some improvement.......windows of periods of improvement.

I don't know, you're are not in the Dog House.  I would have rather you waited to do any drug splitting.  As you are still crossing over to liquid.  I consider it 2 drug changes at once.  I don't think I am being too dogmatic here.  Just cautious.  Based on a lot of experience now of working with members.....I prefer a harm reduction, cautious approach.

The rule of 3KIS: Keep it simple, slow, and stable.

I'm not sure anyone can draw any conclusions, but if you are feeling okay than that is great Greatful.

I think has been a positive improvement so far......

Tomorrow is day 4 of 1.20mg powder and 1.5mg liquid at 8am and 1.5mg at 4pm.

I was hoping to go to full liquid Saturday  2.20mg at 8am and 2mg at 4pm.

Over all I think we are moving in the right direction.

And that's all I've got to say at the moment.  Have a nice weekend.

It sounds like you have a lot of positive coping skills that you use. Good for you, keep them up, they can only help in the long run.

It sounds like your crossover is going okay? I hope things smooth out for you once your done.

@Frogie   This is a loaded question......

Do adverse affect and WD share the same symptoms?  My new doctor is leaning towards the Lexapro causing some of my problems......It's been a little over a year since  Prozac wouldn't the lex have helped with the serotonin issue by now..   Been on the Lex since April and had some drug hoping last winter but my goodness the brain crushing and burning, squeezing has got to stop....I know nobody can say what is what when it comes to these drugs.  I just want to know if the lex is going stop the stabilizing from happening?....  If so do I do a faster taper?

I had some pretty bad brain crushing and headache today broke down and took 500mg of generic Tylenol

Tomorrow I am going to all liquid I want to get on the liquid and see where to go from there.......

thanks for letting me vent...

I am happy to give you all the support through all of this that you need.

No, you are not in trouble or in the dog house, just breathe. It's going to be ok.

I am confident you will stabilize from this. You already mentioned that you felt better, which is a good sign.

Tylenol is fine to take for headaches. A heating pad on my neck sometimes relieves my headaches also.

Did you switch to all liquid as you talked about doing? If you did, hold, hold and hold.

But you're going to be ok. You have mentioned you went grocery shopping and dinner with hubby. That's a huge feat. Be proud of that!

You might keep notes for a few days and post them here so everyone can take a look and see how you doing.

But you are fine😊

Take care,

Frogie xx

You're going to do fine. Just keep holding, holding and holding a little more lol...

It's very common to feel wd symptoms on the liquid, at least I did, but it did even out. My main problem was nausea 24/7. It was like morning sickness, but not pregnant.

Just keep the notes coming so we know how you are doing, but the looks of it, like I said with a nice long hold you'll do just fine.

You WILL be a nurse when you are done. You'll have so much experience to share.

And Greatful, no, of course not........no one is in the dog house.

WE, ARE all a team, or a family of sorts.

I deeply regret my over reaction, that no one heeded my suggestion, to make just one change at a time please, back on January 15th:

If this feels like too, too much right now too......further evaluation with NOTES and all......just say so.  I don't have any problem, if you decide to start the transition to liquid Lexapro/escitalopram.  I mean just one change(as you know we don't like anyone doing multiple changes at once).  And to see if you can adjust and adapt to that.  It will make the rest of the Lexapro taper easier I think with a liquid.

AND......yes, I did miss where Frogie suggested that you begin to split the Lexapro dose on January 22.

It happens.  We all miss things, and we hope.......and usually........someone notices, without getting all defensive, OR using the wrong words.  Referring to self here, so that there is no confusion over that.

I'm so glad you are doing relatively speaking okay Greatful.  I did see your mention of headaches, which are pretty bad right now, and limiting your functioning too.  And would like to pay some more attention to those as well.

Yes, definitely........HOLD.  And HOLD now.  AND do some NOTES.  You did such a great job of them before.

2pm-Xanax .0625mgai

4pm-Liquid Lex 2mgai

8:30pm--Xanax .0625mgai

9:30pm--Trazodone 25mgai & a pinch of Melatonin (about .1mgai)  I have to just quite it lol

Magnesium Glycinate throughout the day

Beautiful ^, and I love your sense of humor too.  Just have to have a pinch of melatonin, do you?

Next up let us see a couple days of full NOTES please and thank you.

I don't know, but maybe it's the darn trazodone, and that darn mCPP  evil metabolite behind the headaches.

It's explained in the tapering topic:

Tips for tapering off Trazodone

When you do the NOTES, I would suggest another description of the headaches, somewhere, maybe even outside of the notes, and then the rating scale again.

I think I had told you, when I was in very abject acute grieving.......just after my Muma's bedside time, and then death..........I got the most awful headaches........I became worried about every darn terminal headache possibility that there was.  And no Trazodone.  Mine were crushing.  I wasn't even real stressed, like with heart rate racing, or BP rising........just awful, non-functional headaches that were killers.  I also was getting severe neck pain.......I was sure that it was an onset of something new, and it would be chronic.  Voila though........here I am, headache, and neck pain free, some 7 months later.  And no, it didn't take that long to go away for me.  Maybe a month or 2 tops.

So......let's get an idea of whence the headaches might be coming from, or related to.  Their timing, in relationship, to the Trazodone will be of interest to me.  As well as a look at your other symptoms in relationship to your drugs.

I think it's going to be okay Greatful.  The 2 changes at once.  You are 100% liquid now, with the escitalopram?  Or as of what date?  And then I see where you are at with your split doses.

Good job.  Both of you.  Greatful, for all that juggling that you do with drugs, forms, doses.  And Frogie too, for all the good advice and support and encouragement given.

We all will carry you, and Nurse you into complete healing and recovery.  I'll take the night shift......LOL.

Apologies for any distress caused, my friends.

(Oh where is the song......I'm only Human.....I'll find it and post separately.........of course you might skip if having a headache now)

L, P, H, and G,

I cannot find the song......yet.

Also I noticed and forgot to mention:

If you are set with your crossover and dosages, and the timing of that with the escitalopram then please do get that morning Lamictal dosing moved out another hour from your Lexapro/escitalopram, so that there is a 2 hour time period between those 2 drugs.  Or that's what I would do, if it was me.  And I do see that was yesterday, or January 30th that you completed the cross over.

The hope is that there is less interaction between them that way.

When is the last time you had a physical, and/ or lab work?  Just a standard blood panel that includes electrolytes?  That might be worth your while, or a good idea too, if never done, or not done recently.

Yes, you could be having an adverse reaction to any of your drugs.  AND you likely are experiencing some WD symptoms as well.  I'd venture to also say that you do not have a serotonin problem, you never had a serotonin problem.........if that's what you were told caused your "depression or anxiety" or whatever.  That's a little mythical, or fiction that theory, and was debunked years ago.......some docs will still act as if it is fact however, as will others.

https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/topic/4291-again-chemical-imbalance-is-a-myth-stop-the-lies-please/

The drugs will however, alter the chemicals and receptors, and ........that is why we taper......to give those receptors a chance to go back to normal.  More about that in the why taper by 10% topic, and then that will link to even more, if you like reading about what is going on now.

It's possible that WD symptoms HAVE increased a little with the change in absorption from solid to liquid and maybe a little from your change in dosing pattern too.

And then.....it is best to make changes sloowly.......while your body and brain adapt or readapt back to factory settings.  Sooooo......if possible let's try try for no further changes now for 4 weeks......and in that time see if you get to a new level of WD stability......not perfect, but more manageable.

I mean shift the Lamictal one more hour away from the Lexapro/escitalopram in the morning and expect further stability as you get used to the liquid and dose split.  Best NOT to do too much shifting too quickly.  Your CNS will thank you.  Think positive.

And Notes too.

Totally okay to vent Greatful.  No problem.

Nitey nite.

This is a crazy ride.......

Yes I am on all liquid, day 3.......

I have been having some breaks in the intensity of symptoms.  I am a little concerned if it is to activating for sleep...I woke up around 2:30am last night and was up until about 3:30am.

Usually if I wake up I can go right back to sleep.  It might be a fluke so I'll wait a few more days to see how it goes.....

I still have to be pretty quiet.......If I go out on errands or anything my brain goes to the can crusher and symptom ramp up........🙄

I am taking notes, I'll post them in a few more days

Thanks for keeping an eye on my😊

That sounds really good taking notes.  Your waking could be a fluke, just keep track of that among everything else.

Errands can be very activating, even for me. Last night I had to go to the pharmacy to pick something up with "hubby", and I couldn't wait to get out of there and back to my "safe place". So I can really understand that fully.

Overall, it doesn't sound like you are doing too bad. You have a great spirit through this whole mess.

That makes you very special. 😊

Keep me posted.

Yes I do get blood work done. I ask for them now. I have issues with my white blood cut.

Lex can be a problems with this.  Doc still put me on it...........

Is there any that you think would be important to get? I usually get Hemogram/PLTS/DIFF.

Last one, white count was on the low end of normal.

@Greatful

You might just have them run a CBC. Low white blood count can sometimes mean your anemic. Have you had your iron checked? You might have them do that.

But I wouldn't worry about it too much. Mine used to be low when I was on Lexapro and my red blood count was always high, they both straightened out once I was off.

@Grateful

I don't know if this is any help but when I switched to liquid Mirtazapine and it took me six weeks to stabilise on it completely so I didn't taper at all during this time.  I hope it will gradually even out for you.

Oaktree

Currently tapering Mirtazapine; previously tapered Cymbalta 30mg from June 2018-Feb 2019 and Seroquel 150mg to zero from Oct-December 2020.

Supplements for Hashimoto's disease and histamine issues relating to Mirtazapine:   Vitamin D3 1,000mcg, bio-identical HRT, Selenium, Quercetin, Lutein, Zinc, Vitamin C, Omega 3.

Mirtazapine Taper: 2021 16th Aug -  transitioned to liquid from tablet by dissolving two 15mg tablets into a solution of 15 ml water and 15 ml maple syrup on a starting dose of what I thought was 7.5ml; 17 Sept  - 7.31; 24 Sept  - 7.13; 15 Oct  - 6.95; 6 Nov  - 6.78; 21 Nov  - 6.61; 5 Dec  - 6.51;

2022 - 1 Jan 6.41; 1 Feb  - 6.1; 9 Mar -  5.8; 13 Mar - 5.9; 7 Apr - 5.8; 21 Apr - 5.7; 7 May - 5.63; 23 May - 5.55; 8 June 5.50;  (got COVID on 12th June so held); 1 July 5.4; 15 July 5.32; 8 Aug 5.2; 15 Aug 5.1; 22 Aug 5; 19 Sept 4.9; 2 Oct 4.81; 13 Oct 4.71; (COVID Booster 17/10/22 so longer hold ); 1 Nov 4.65; 3 Nov 4.60; 10 Nov 4.55; 13 Nov 4.50; 17 Nov 4.45; 20 Nov 4.40;  2 Dec 4.30mg; 9 Dec 4.20mg; I discovered that the volumetric container measured 33ml rather than 30ml in Dec 2022. Following helpful advice from moderator OnMyWay (see her  reply of the 5th March) discovered taper with the dilution was 3.8mg (calculated by dividing 30/33 so that every 1ml of solution has  0.90ml of Mirtazapine.  7.50 - 0.90= 6.6ml which was the starting dose on 16th Aug 2021 not 7.5ml).  I decided to keep using the solution as I didn't want more change to deal with than I had to.

2023 17 Mar 4.1(3.7); 26 Mar 4.0(3.6); 14 Apr 3.9(3.51)28 Apr 3.8(3.42); 6 Jun 3.7(3.33); 19 Jun 3.6(3.24); 30 Jun 3.5(3.1); 19 Jul 3.4(3.06); 27 Jul 3.35 (3.01); 29 Jul 3.3 (2.97); 4 Aug 3.25 (2.92); 7 Aug 3.2 (2.88); 21 Aug 3.1 (2.79); 14.09 3 (2.7); 29th Sept 2.9(2.61); 15 Oct 2.8(2.52); 30 Oct 10 2.7(2.43); 13 Nov 2.65(2.38); 20 Nov 2.6(2.34); 26 Nov 2.55(2.29); 10 Dec 2.5(2.25);

This is not 'medical advice' - my 'non medical advice' is don't get any more 'medical advice' or you may end up getting more 'medical treatment' i.e more drugs, DSM labels and/or ECT.   Please do not PM me thanks.

Hi @Greatful

I feel your pain, I'm crying for you... seriously. Cuz I know what its like.. Seems debilitating and frustrating! Like get me out of here.... Hope it passes real soon. Remember- it will!

My heart's with you 💓

BTW I see you became hypomanic from Wellbutrin. Had same thing. Was diagnosed bipolar for life right there. Was it only from Wellbutrin,  meaning- twasnt there before or after? Because by now I'm confused abt my own diagnosis

1- October 2011- Wellbutrin. Few months later-Zyprexa. Quite some months later-DepakoteClonapen throughout. November 2014- med free successfully! (Quick doc taper)

2- November 2015- zyprexa (almost sure) May 2015- Lithium 900 mg throughout, carried over to pregnancy and next baby. Currently still on same lithium.

3- June 20, 2017- zyprexa refused. June 21, 2017- forced hospitalization. June 2017- risperdal, lithium raised to 1200.

no memory when-zoloft. Got off risperdal with dr- no clue how fast or when.  June 2018- got off zoloft extremely fast resulting in complete dissociation (total disconnect of body), depression & severe fatigue

Around august 2019- lithium 1050. Lithium 975. Lithium 900. January 11, 2021Lithium 825.

February 5, 2021- Found SA 🌞! February 23, 2021- Compounding natural pharmacy 🙂. May 9, 2021- Lithium 750. August 30, 2021- Lithium 675

(will add in more dates when I figure them out)

June 23, 2022- Started brassmonkey slide 💟 June 23, 2022- Lithium 658

>ALL meds were coerced ILLEGALLY<

CURRENT MEDS- 610 LITHIUM  MG (after 4 week hold. Brass monkey succesful)       CURRENT SUPPLEMENTS- magnesium 350 MG
