Apparently there has been an association for nearly 20 years now that anti psychotics, especially risperidone, used long term can be a potential cause of pituitary tumors. Recent studies are firming this up and finding an association. My doctor noticed that my prolactin level was high so she ordered an MRI, which showed the tumor. And what causes a high prolactin level? PROZAC, which I was on at the time! Granted, it's an SSRI and not an anti-psychotic, but it just goes to show the far-reaching consequences of these neurotoxins. Fortunately, the tiny tumor is benign and has never gotten any bigger. I have had tens of thousands of dollars and probably more worth of tests and procedures and specialists and almost all of it was unnecessary it was all the drugs. What a scam this all is. No wonder Health Care is getting so expensive and crazy because we're treating all of the diseases being caused by the treatment and the treatments for the diseases caused by treatments are causing us to need more treatment and that treatment is causing us...... well you get the idea. This is what happens when you treat Phantom diseases that you don't understand with Phantom treatments that you don't understand. You end up getting results that you don't understand. @Catina7 I'm really sorry that happened to you and I'm sorry for all the crap that everybody has had to go through as a result of trusting these meds. She has been having odd episodes recently of dropping into something approximating a waking dreamlike state and ended up in the emergency room and in the Hospital a few days ago. They did an MRI and found a pituitary tumor. Not sure what they're going to do about it but surgery is one option since it's causing some serious problems. So...........you are struggling emotionally and go for help and are given what is supposed to be helpful........... and then you get to go and have brain surgery.
