Hi MB, just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your posts and your positive attitude. It inspires and boosts me when I'm feeling discouraged. Thanks!

Started on Prozac and Xanax in 1992 for PTSD after an assault. One drug led to more, the usual story. Got sicker and sicker, but believed I needed the drugs for my "underlying disease". Long story...lost everything. Life savings, home, physical and mental health, relationships, friendships, ability to work, everything. Amitryptiline, Prozac, bupropion, buspirone, flurazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, Paxil, citalopram, lamotrigine, gabapentin...probably more I've forgotten.

Started multidrug taper in Feb 2010.  Doing a very slow microtaper, down to low doses now and feeling SO much better, getting my old personality and my brain back! Able to work full time, have a full social life, and cope with stress better than ever. Not perfect, but much better. After 23 lost years. Big Pharma has a lot to answer for. And "medicine for profit" is just not a great idea.

Feb 15 2010:  300 mg Neurontin  200 Lamictal   10 Celexa      0.65 Xanax   and 5 mg Ambien

bubble I don't want to hijack MB's thread but I think you are very productive, maybe even doing too much for someone in withdrawal and tapering!

Thanks Rhi :)

It`s not often that get compliments on my positive attitude!

I try to be positive and not feel sorry for myself. Usually it is very hard.

Every difficult day that brings me down teaches me something valuable. Coping skills.

Today I recorded some music for the first time in months. It was scary but rewarding. The sun is shining. Things could be a lot worse.

I wish happy weekend for everybody. You deserve it!

Once again I`m here preaching about acceptance.

Yesterday I was very afraid the whole day and that brought my tinnitus to new hights. No sound would mask it, only irrate me more.

I got tired of fighting. I gave up. I put my laptop away and read Claire Weekes`s book Hope and Healing for your nervers. It is very old fashioned book but has got many wise ideas. Suddenly the screaming tinnitus did not bother me us much. I found acceptance. I even slept well without masking.

Today I found out that my tinnitus was very low. I became very afraid of losing that feeling of peace. I was scared to death that it would come back. Then I realized that while I need to accept my tinnitus, It is equally important to accept the fear of it! Maybe even more important. So the whole day I`ve been telling myself to accept every fear my mind brings to my attention.

I feel fine :) There is hope people. Never lose it. Accept fear but do not add fear to fear.

An update:

What a week. I`ve seen and been trough it all. Sometimes I am scared as hell and full of adrenaline and 15 minutes later I`m on top of the world. Still my bad days now are nothing compared to my bad days 2 months ago. I`m slowly getting better. I`m learning to live with my fears and anxiety and they are losing their power.

I`m still very sensitive to stress, sounds and light. Today I was terrified of the fact that earth revolves around the sun. Then I realized how stupid it was and I could only laugh. The feeling was very real. Pure terror. Well that is just another thing that I just have to accept.

I still have a long way to go but at least I can be a member of my family and society once more. It is far from easy but I am able to cope.

Thanks to you all.

I can relate to this, I get surges of anxiety and even terror triggered by benign ideas and things.  I think its because our nervous system is in such a sensitized state that even the smallest change in our environment or thoughts or current reality can cause a reaction.  I expect this symptom will settle down eventually, along with all of them.

I'm not a doctor.  My comments are not medical advise. These are my opinions based on my own experience and what I've learned. Please discuss your situation with a medical practitioner who has knowledge of tapering and withdrawal...if you are lucky enough to find one.

My Introduction Thread

Full Drug and Withdrawal History

Brief Summary

Several SSRIs for 13 years starting 1997 (for mild to moderate partly situational anxiety) Xanax PRN ~ Various other drugs over the years for side effects

2 month 'taper' off Lexapro 2010

Short acute withdrawal, followed by 2 -3 months of improvement then delayed protracted withdrawal

DX ADHD followed by several years of stimulants and other drugs trying to manage increasing symptoms

Failed reinstatement of Lexapro and trial of Prozac (became suicidal)

May 2013 Found SA, learned about withdrawal, stopped taking drugs...healing begins.

Protracted withdrawal, with a very sensitized nervous system, slowly recovering as time passes

Supplements which have helped: Vitamin C, Magnesium, Taurine

Bad reactions: Many supplements but mostly fish oil and Vitamin D

June 2016 - Started daily juicing, mostly vegetables and lots of greens.

Aug 2016 - Oct 2016 Best window ever, felt almost completely recovered

Oct 2016 -Symptoms returned - bad days and less bad days.

April 2018 - No windows, but significant improvement, it feels like permanent full recovery is close.

I agree with you fully, Petu.

Yesterday I was full of fear the whole day until before I went to bed. I was not able to relax at all. Addrenaline surges all the time. Very hard day to cope but I tried to stay positive and strong. This feeling will pass, I said to myself all the time.

My mother has been visiting us fot the last 4 days so that may be one reason for my troubles. Every change in every day life is scary.

Fortunately I slept well last night. I woke up with hardly any tinnitus and fear. It felt sooo good and I was ok with the fact that it would not last. Slowly finding acceptance...

I`m at work now and feeling much better than yesterday.

While driving to work I realized something new. Peace of mind should not be tied to the place you are at. It should be a state of mind no matter where you are. I`ve been taking my job as a place where I feel bad and I cannot be at peace until I get back home. This is wrong. I have to stop thinking that I can feel good only in certain places. It really should a state of mind regardless of my location.

Also It seems that I lied in my introduction. I do not have a phd. I`m only a Bachelor of science :) Can I change this somehow?

Was justthinking about you and wondering if you were doing a lot of smiling ;)

I liek this realisation a lot. It is very important. Maybe that song means that: everywhere you go, always take the weather with you. I realised a long time ago that I would be unhappy even if I went to Mars because I would take myself there. So I also practice to be happy here and now. Because that is the only place where you can be happy.

I personally don't care about PhD or not. You are equally smart either way ;)

Yesteday was another bad day.

Full of fear and addrenaline. I got anxiety over everything that I saw or read. Tinnitus was hight too. Also I had to take our kids to annual check up with their doctor. The doctors office was hot with no air and there was a construction work going on outside so it was very loud too. Kids were all over the place and of course, I began to panic. I believe many of you can relate to this. I survived. It was not easy or comfortabe but I did. After that we had to go to the pharmacy and after that we had to buy food. I was so tired after all that that I fell asleep on the sofa again. But I was able to do all those things. That is something. Now I know that this too I can do. No matter what. Progress comes from postivive experiences in hard times.

I`m still practising my smiling skills. Everytime I look at the mirror I smile. Everytime I feel scared or anxious, I smile.

I no longer have those worst kind of panic attacs but I`m still very anxious and scared all the time. Well not all the time. Sometimes I have moments when I feel normal.

So my advice to all of you that are in a wave. Be glad of it. You make as much progress in a wave that you do in a window. Maybe even more.

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

Yesterday I went back to January. I woke up in terror and by the time I got to work I was in one of the worst panic attacks I`ve had so far.

I really had to fight to stay at work. Also I had a meeting with my therapist after work. I cried a lot but she was helpful. I`ve had a very stressful last 2 weeks and I guess it sensitized me. I just smiled and pushed forward no matter how bad I felt. It was horrible but I did it.

Today I feel anxious, scared and depressed but it now as bad as yesterday. Trying not to think about my situation and symptoms is impossible.

Well. This too shall pass.

I measured my blood pressure today. It was 137/79. It was measured while feeding breakfast to my kids so it was not the most comfortable situation. I`m looking forward losing more weight and getting more healthy.

For those who are in a wave. I salute you! We will get better :)

Hi MB,

Nice to hear you are managing. Be a bit careful with the pushing and fighting. That stuff accumulates in a bad way. 137/79 is quite good i think all things considered!

Im also on a quest for weight loss. Would be nice to get rid of the six-pack of blubbery lard on my belly.

Hope you get your window back soon!

Hi Wulfgar.

I try not to push myself too much but sometimes there are too many things going on and I just have to cope.

Hopefully I`ll come back from this soon.

My main problems are my tinnitus and the sensitivity to sounds that aggravate the tinnitus. Those two go hand in hand. If I listen to any sound for too long my t gets a lot worse. If I`m around that same sound and have distraction from it, my t does not react. Much of it has got to be about my nerves.

So I did some research on sound sensitivity and tinnitus and seems like a constant exposure to pink noise gradually brings back tolerance to noises. I`m going to try that instead of forcing myself to get used to my tinnitus. How can I since it changes all the time! I need to stabilize my nerves before I can do that.

After many days of terror I woke up with no fear. Strange feeling. No tinnitus. It`s crazy how much this changes all the time. Hopefully that means that it`s mainly coming from my nerves. It is back now but these silent moments give me hope.

I`m back at work and feel somewhat relaxed but scared. I`m listening to rain with some seaguls. Looks like it`s going to be a slow day at work. I don`t mind that at all.

I think the fact that you can have short windows with no tinnitus is a good sign that it might be possible for you to become tinnitus free. I also had a few minutes a few days back where my right ear where silent and it gave me a big lift and hope. (I would not listen to seaguls though, theres to many birdies tweeting inside my head already!)

MB, is your signature correct? It looks like your last decrease was

2/18/2014 9,9mg.

3/18/2014 8mg.

20% is a fairly large decrease at that dosage level.

Yes it is. I decided to try how I will react to a bigger drop. Just an experiment.

If it backfires, I`ll wait until I`m stable enough to continue at 10% per month. Or even less.

Oh Moodyyyyy!

I never look in the sigs of people I know! (It's probably because if I decide to make a cut I announce it urbi and orbi :) and even ask the community if they think my reasoning is right for double insurance).

That's why I was just reading about increase in your symptoms being under the assumption that you were still holding the same dose you were on after that flip with dosing since it threw you off balance such big time! I also thought you were in no rush but rather focused on feeling reasonably well while tapering...

But it seems the period of feeling well tempted you to do an experiment :) I did the same with a bigger cut last time and the result of that experiment was: no more bigger cuts for me.

I'm sure you will learn a lesson from your experiment as well :)

I`m not a very wise man. I owe my life to this forum but still I keep pushing myself too much.

I need to make mistakes to learn. I`ve always been like that. I just hate the idea that I`ll be still taking this poison next year.

Acceptance is so hard...

What a rollercoaster of a day it has been again.

I`ve been happy, motivated, depressed, scared and anxious.

I need more time before I can begin exercising. I get tired very very easily. I can feel that I`m getting stronger.

My days are quite similar but I hold on to the happy and motivated part as hard as I can.

I resumed hiking and feel a bit fitter but it was really hard in the beginning. As with everything, we have to start slow and be gentle with ourselves (although I don't like the fact that I have to buy one size bigger clothes :(  but I simply couldn't focus both on fighting WD and AD fueled appetite increase...

Total nervous breakdown today. I can`t stay still. I feel horrible and cannot escape it. And I should not! I`ve tried to live normal life and it was too much for me.

I`m sorry I did not listen made that bigger cut. Well now I know I can`t handle it.

I will survive this but I haven`t felt this bad for ages. I can`t look at anything, I can`t listen to anything. Just being awake is too stimulating. I`ve been ill too. I can`t be around my lovely kids.

I`m sorry Alto.

it's ok MB.

Please don't blame yourself. It's all part of the learning process.

You are a great father, you did amazing things for your kids and you will do them again.

Now you just need a time out. You know things will get better again like they did the last time.

big hug
