Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

Ill have a look at aloe Vera. My husband has just cooked a lovely stir fry (he's a very good cook) and I've had a reaction to that...almost instantly. Throat feels like its closing up, toxic feeling in head and sinus pain, wheezing! FFs - I can't even eat when I'm hungry.

I try to eat only foods that I can pronounce simple foods without additives.

I know we could get away with it before but not now.

It can seem endless when we try to find food we can eat... things I get away with carrots potato green beans broccoli chicken stock... when I am bad these are the things I eat.

I have had good times with food since but if I do something stupid I pay still... If well I can eat chinese food but only at no msg places so they say ... I eat light and drink a lot of water now if I think it is turning on me... I am done. I am careful there are some things I just don't want any longer. Maybe because the association was too bad in the past.  Some things will give me headaches bad ones.  This reactions to smells I am told can be mirgraines could be mold could be MS I know it comes and goes I think when my body gets too toxic...last time was from too many antibiotics I think... then I just fall again.  As my doc said it can't be helped... well I am trying to help it best I can that is one reason for the experimentation just now.

Please note many things I can eat or take as supplement now I could not touch early on... but turmeric seemed to be ok... ordinary spice kind not supplement... I have not tried the supplement yet.  Taurine I take only low amounts still I don't need the trouble of a large amount and a reaction.  I take !/4 and then may not take it again for a wk or more...some people it take it a lot I think like mag it could go paradoxal if I took too much mag Vit D3 B6 all have gone bad on me. I don't need it.

Whatever you decide start low and slow and wait. I apparently can't stress this enough as I must have said it many times just to you :) there is something called rebound which is a reaction our poor bodies do in this state... time needs to pass to see how it will affect you wait is important... report back others who have been thru this will recognize where you are by your response.

Allergies seem to be getting worse. Tonight I've come to bed wheezing, tight chest, sinus pain and breathlessness. Don't know what's triggered this off! I was allergic to cats prior to this - now it seems I'm allergic to everything. Can't take antihistamine...any suggestions? I'm also scared to take my inhaler - do you think I may have adverse reaction to that?

Why the hell am I having such adverse reactions to everything?

I think ADs have an indirect antihistamine action, the 2 springs after I have gone off an antidepressant I have had horrible allergies, the rest of my life very mild.

1st round Prozac 1989/90, clear depression symptoms. 2nd round Prozac started 1999 when admitted to dr. I was tired. Prozac pooped out, switch to Cymbalta 3/2006. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder due to mania 6/2006--then I was taken abruptly off Cymbalta and didn't know I had SSRI withdrawal. Lots of meds for my intractable "bipolar" symptoms.

Zyprexa started about 9/06, mostly 5mg. Tapered 4/12 through12/29/12

Wellbutrin. XL 300 mg started 1/07, tapered 1/18/13 through 7/8/13

Oxazepam mostly continuously since 6/06, 30mg since 12/12, tapered 1.17.14 through 8.26.15

11/06 Lithium 600mg twice daily, 2.2.14 400mg TID DIY liquid, 2.12.14 1150mg, 3.2.14 1100mg, 3.18.14 1075mg, 4/14 updose to 1100mg, 6.1.14 900 mg capsules 7.8.14 810mg, 8.17.14 725mg, 8.24.24 700mg...10.22.14 487.5mg, 3.9.15 475mg, 4.1.15 462.5mg 4.21.15 450mg 8.11.15 375mg, 11.28.15 362.5mg, back to 375mg four days later, 3.4.16 updose to 475 (too much going on to risk trouble)

9/4/13 Toprol-XL 25mg daily for sudden hypertension, tapered 11.12.13 through 5.3.14, last 10 days or so switched to atenolol

7.4.14 Started Walsh Protocol

56 years old

Actually the base drug from which antidepressant came was an antihistamine way back in the old days from post I have read from others and all the people we see with allergies after they quit the drugs something is going on here.  Maybe there is another unknown effect these drugs have that affects allergic response that may or may not involve histamine.

Little history if you like

" Like so many scientists before him, Molloy focused on antihistamines. He began to tinker with the molecular structure of diphenhydramine, one of the oldest antihistamines, marketed under the trade name Benadryl for treatment of hay fever, allergies, the common cold, bee stings, poison ivy and other of life’s irritations. He created a series of analogues: structural derivatives of a compound that can differ by as little as a single element."

http://www.fasebj.org/content/21/13/3404.full

Not sure how much of it I believe I lost my easy trust button.

These reactions flares of old allergies and new one we never had before it common.

What annoys me the most about this terrible illness is everybody's lack of understanding and ignorance in the whole thing.

Just talking to my mother-in-law about how MSG is so bad and makes me terribly ill. She looked at me like I was gone out...like I've got some kind of obsessive compulsive disorder! Yeah - like anyone could make this crap up! Like I really want to be allergic to everything and anything I come in contact with. Nobody understands this suffering...nobody!

Hey Muddles,

I'm sorry you are suffering babe. These meds mess with so many things in our bodies. Can't they see they do much more harm than good?

Hang in there sweetie. Can you afford go to a naturopathic doctor? I have one here but it is $195/visit. Ugh!

Was on antidepressants on and off from 2000-2007 dx with MDD n anxiety.

2009- had like a physical breakdown. Was exhausted n not functioning properly. Still have depression n had become suicidal. Shrink dx bipolar while I never had a single manic episode. I got at least 8-9 hours of sleep every night. I required that to function since a child. I was admitted to the psych ward immediately. Was then put on a cocktail.

Lithium, lamotrigine, wellbutrin, prozac, depakote, Xanax, trazadone and ritalin.

Went through over 50 shock treatments n put on Invega in addition

Spring 2014, made the decision to try to get off some meds.

11 weeks ago I qt quit invega

10/6 reinstated 150 mg of Wellbutrin

I currently take 40 mg of prozac, 300 mg of lamotrigine, 1 mg of Xanax, 150 mg of trazadone

I am down from three medications. The forementioned others that I was initially put on I stopped prior to 2014.

I am hoping to be med free one day. I do not have any intention of stopping the current ones right now. I'm going to give my body a little more time to adjust.

Progress not perfection!!

Ignore them Muddles, you are right they haven't a clue but I have to admit that I

was once one of those people  . I learned out the hard way just like everyone else here

but I honestly wouldn't wish it on anyone except psychiatrists!

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Different drugs occasionally (mostly benzos) 1976 - 1981 (no problem)

1993 - 2002 in and out of hospital. every type of drug + ECT. Staring with seroxat

2002  effexor.

Tapered  March 2012 to March 2013, ending with 5 beads.

Withdrawal April 2013 . Reinstated 5 beads reduced to 4 beads May 2013

Restarted taper  Nov 2013

OFF EFFEXOR Feb 2015    :D

Tapered atenolol and omeprazole Dec 2013 - May 2014

Tapering tramadol, Feb 2015 100mg , March 2015 50mg

 July 2017 30mg.  May 15 2018 25mg

Taking fish oil, magnesium, B12, folic acid, bilberry eyebright for eye pressure.

My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

They can't know what they don't know and even telling people who believe you they can't possibly get all the ramifications of so many systems being impaired cyclicly and what seems randomly... so don't expect them to get it they won't.  I felt a bit better when I gave up expecting it.  Bit less frustrated but yes more lonely for sure more of an outcast too.

I will ad one more group to Mamma's - all pharma employees and every scientist that ever signed off on a ghost written article or massaged the data to get a drug on market ... put them up against the wall line em up I will give the pills no problem .... eye for an eye after all.  Nothing else would make them see.

I will go to bed dreaming about this btdt and mamma P - drugging up the doc's and watch their lives fall apart. I'm sure over the next decade this will be common knowledge. We have been the guinea pigs unfortunately - and the victims of what I can only describe as murder.

Yes I eat cheese.  I don't eat cream cheese or cheese slices cream cheese is bad for the liver I hear and I don't need that...plus I don't feel well after eating it.  A moderate amount of cheese an ounce is ok.  I generally eat some cheese every day tho if I feel even a tiny bit unwell I would not eat it.  I eat curd or cheddar. It has not always been a good thing for me at the start of this I had no cheese ever.  I started  eating it again after the endo doc suggested I needed an ounce a day and a glass of milk after a reaction to calcium pills and Vit D3.  Still can't tolerate the D3... labs are off back to the doc ...hope it is just the D3 again.  I don't know what to do about D3 seems I just can't tolerate it.  There has to be a reason but so far nothing. I have been eating cheese about 3 years now.

Amen btdt! Only I would like to add all the doctors that prescribe them!!

May want to add that I would have been at least 3 years into healing by the time I started eating cheese regularly.  I am not sure how it affected me the first 3 years ... I was just sick.  I so wish I had my old posts... but they are gone and I can't always recall things... sorry.

I know the first month I was find some little stuff... 6wks is when it hit me... I could not eat or control my bowels at all.  I survived the first three months on liquids and boiled carrots and potatoes.

I had been at the mercy of food and not being able to eat for a very long time I could not process food I just could not do it...not real food. I tried different things and ban came to be a staple for me every day I would eat a tablespoon of bran and do water therapy...

which is

4 glasses of water on waking

wait 15 min brush your teeth really well

within the hour eat something - for me the something was a table spoon of bran cereal the sticks not the pellets the sticks have different nutrients I tried both the pellet kind was useless only the sticks all brain sticks.

Soups and broths I had to learn to make my own stock.  Ryvita bread type biscuits.  Veggies I tried juicing too but tired of it

You do what you have to do... baby type electrolite replacement adult was too much I could not tolerate it.

Walk after every meal once the intestines start to function a bit.  Kind of like massaging the tubes to coax the digestion back online that is my own idea.   More water.

Eat a little if it is going to react it may be a smaller reaction because you only ate a little.

Hi Muddles et al., just visiting the site today in search of hope. And with a tidbit:

A good friend has a new boyfriend, age 57. The big healthy surfer had been put on Effexor for depression, and forgot to bring it on a trip. Three days later he was behaving bizarrely and violently, and was arrested and sent to prison. Now he's an ex-con.

THANK YOU EFFEXOR.

I do agree that nothing short of letting some psychiatrists start and then stop Effexor (or the like) would give them a clue. I can't describe my symptoms properly--they don't fit into the DSM-V boxes. Personally, I think I am half awake and half asleep 24/7. Just that sometimes I'm lying down with my eyes closed at night in bed. I am LOCKED into my head and it's dreamy dread and horrifying, painful ruminations about all that's happened and all I've lost. It would be amazing to go back to being my old self. Anxiety prone, depression prone, but fully functioning. Working, playing, being creative. I had options. Dreams. Projects. Where did that person go?

One real regret is my loss of trust in medicine. Before this I always thought there was a pill to fix me, and I just had to go to a doctor for "treatment." Now that avenue is cut off, because there's not a single one that a) believes us properly AND B) has an answer. I did see Dr Shipko last month. He was kind and agreed that my problems began with Effexor. He also said I seemed to have a knack for finding the very most irresponsible and misguided psychiatrists in the county.

But he's not the type to try another drug--he has no miracle cure. I would love to just fall into a Librium trance, but as we all know, there's a rude awakening at the end of any benzo-like journey.

So, Muddles and all...one day at a time. One day of thinking "I can't take another day of this." But we can and we do.

Those of us who can: let's get out of the house today, even if only for an hour.

2009: Cancer hospital said I had adjustment disorder because I thought they were doing it wrong. Their headshrinker prescribed Effexor, and my life set on a new course. I didn't know what was ahead, like a passenger on Disneyland's Matterhorn, smiling and waving as it climbs...clink, clink, clink.

2010: Post surgical accidental Effexor discontinuation by nurses, masked by intravenous Dilaudid. (The car is balanced at the top of the track.) I get home, pop a Vicodin, and ...

Whooosh...down, down, down, down, down...goes the trajectory of my life, up goes my mood and tendency to think everything is a good idea.
2012: After the bipolar jig was up, now a walking bag of unrelated symptoms, I went crazy on Daytrana (the Ritalin skin patch by Noven), because ADHD was a perfect fit for a bag of unrelated symptoms. I was prescribed Effexor for the nervousness of it, and things got neurological. An EEG showed enough activity to warrant an epilepsy diagnosis rather than non-epileptic ("psychogenic") seizures.

:o 2013-2014: Quit everything and got worse. I probably went through DAWS: dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome. I drank to not feel, but I felt a lot: dread, fear, regret, grief: an utter sense of total loss of everything worth breathing about, for almost two years.

I was not suicidal but I wanted to be dead, at least dead to the experience of my own brain and body.

2015: I  began to recover after adding virgin coconut oil and organic grass-fed fed butter to a cup of instant coffee in the morning.

I did it hoping for mental acuity and better memory. After ten days of that, I was much better, mood-wise. Approximately neutral.

And, I experienced drowsiness. I could sleep. Not exactly happy, I did 30 days on Wellbutrin, because it had done me no harm in the past.

I don't have the DAWS mood or state of mind. It never feel like doing anything if it means standing up.

In fact, I don't especially like moving. I'm a brain with a beanbag body.

I'm pleased you managed to see Dr Shipko. It's a pitty there are aren't more of these knowledgable doctors out there.

I too have lost all trust in any medicine - I'm sure most of us on here have and why wouldn't we after the suffering we have had to endure. But it's not just antidepressants - it's everything for me. They offered my daughter the flu jab...no way! And then there's the cervical cancer prevention jab next year that she is supposed to have...no way! I've read up and found many young girls suffering adverse side effects and their parents reporting how their daughter's health had declined after having the vaccination. Do you think I'm becoming a little obsessed? A little too overprotective? My family seems to think so, but I'm just so scared of doctors and pharmaceuticals now...lost all trust.

Their was nothing wrong with our brains before meds West Coast...we were probably just a little sensitive...what's wrong with that?

We live and learn and hope that others will learn from us. I hope one day I will fully recover and be well enough to do something to make a difference because I will never be able to let this go - ever.

I managed to eat out yesterday. Had to go and try and find a new blind and curtains for my sons bedroom. God, that was a mission. My brain just doesn't seem to like having to do anything other than think about how much it is broken! So exhausting physically too. Loovvveee feeling like an 80 year old with dementia! ????

Healing hugs to everyone. Thanks for the encouragement.

Well, maybe you can eat out today. That's how we say "go to a restaurant" here :)

(About the cervical cancer jab...one amazing fact is that in the USA if everyone had it, it would still only save a couple of thousand lives out of all those 300,000,000+ people. Because cervical cancer is very, very rare (13,000 cases a year, about a third fatal, here) and usually easily treated when caught quickly. Not all the deaths would be prevented, because the vacc doesn't cover all HPV virus types and doesn't work 100%.)

I'm so glad to hear you went out and got something done. It's major.

When there's more people like us who know what happened to us on meds, there will be more Shipkos, I hope. I despair for all the people still on the merry go round, yet to find out what getting off is like. Doctors are making new people like us EVERY DAY. So maybe this w/d stuff will become a speciality...heaven forbid, maybe they'll find a treatment.

Muddles, I know you feel beyond awful, but I can't help but sense the improvement. I think you did the right thing to stop the mirt.

Thanks memi. I had to stop - I realise that in poop-out some have no option but to get off sooner rather than later. It was toxic in my body and do feel better now I'm not on it...a lot better. My body rejects any meds so staying on it was killing me. I'm still kind of scared as to what is around the corner as I know withdrawels can kick in weeks and months down the line. My friends have seen an improvement since stopping. I just pray to god nothing gets worse as I am still so far from well and don't want to get any worse. Please god.

Thanks for that memi - it really helps when others notice and tell me. I don't see it sometimes and need to be told.
